  1. Very surprised that I didn't feel that gas pain or shoulder pain at all. Perhaps a technique or system that Dr. Kuri and his staff uses - Not sure Was very surprised I had a catheter in me. When the nurse took it out, I yelped liked a dog. My dad and wife had a nice little laugh The 2mg of antivan (aka Lorazapam) the night before (and night after surgery) was nice as I got some great sleep Dr. Kuri's Staff was a class act. Marble pristine floors in the hospital as well as a security guard in my hall....made my trip to Tijuana a very pleasant surprise. Oh...forgot the follow-up phone call to my hotel room by Dr. Kuri the night before we left. He even greeted us at the van just before we went back to San Diego...just to say bye (again....classy move) My wife got to be in the surgery room to watch me have surgery. She is a nurse but I was quite surprised they let her in the operating room. First day after surgery was probably the worse. Specifically, the nausea from the anesthesia. Walked quite a bit the day after surgery which I was surprised at Can keep liquids down and have noticed a BIG difference in the amount of liquids I can hold down from day #2 to Day #3. Anybody scared about going to Tijuana, Mexico for surgery shouldn't blink twice. The level of care, professionalism and the attitude of the staff was way above expected. I'm down 6lbs so far
  2. Can't say the personal experience with Dr. Ortiz.....only Dr. Kuri. However...I'm sure Ortiz is fine as I know he has a lot of experience also. Ortiz does a great job in marketing and is a little younger than Dr. Kuri. Kuri is 58-62 range and Ortiz is around 42-48 I believe. Either way...you will be fine I'm sure....
  3. I'm curious of this question because....I'm still on the liquid phase and had one slime episode when I cheated a little bit when I had a little piece of pumpkin Pie. I had no idea the cake didn't pass through as I couldn't tell either way. It felt fine. The worse thing I would want is to not be able to discern when the pouch is full and to innocently keep put food in my mouth. P.S. I know the wisdom of just having a cup of food (or meals the size of your fist to help prevent eating more food) but I'm still curious as if it is easy to discern when food passes through the pouch. Thoughts/Opinions?
  4. Very interesting everyone....many thanks for your sharing your wisdom and knowledge ! Blessings all around
  5. He and his entire staff is great. The care is amazing actually but I'm sure its like that with most Mexican doctors. The culture is different and plus they know they battle a lot of fears of going to Mexico to do surgery. They are a class act from top to bottom. You will see for yourself soon. P.S. They is a great Italian Restaurant (very upscale actually) off to the right of the TGA Friday's (e.g. Sareintos ...or something like that). I highly recommend that restaurant if you want to get a good meal the day before surgery. There is 4 people waiting at your table (not kidding). It's right across the street from Hospital Angeles. . All the best, MD
  6. Wow...that is really interesting actually. I always assumed you would know when your food passes through your pouch. This makes eating a fix portion (e.g. a cup or a full fist of food) all the more important it seems. Any other thoughts/clarification?
  7. This is the second day in a row this has happened. Perhaps a pattern is emerging. This morning I went for a nice walk with my wife (drinking some coffee as I walked) then we came home and I had a very small can of cream of mushroom Soup and a small can of tomato soup (500 calories total) and then all of a sudden I crashed on the couch. I never really got tired before and I'm thinking its either I'm not eating as much as before so my brain is telling me to slow down or the carb heavy soups is causing me to crash. I take my Vitamins everyday as well as take plenty of Protein via shakes in the afternoon. P.S. Also, my thighs became REALLY ITCHY during our walk this morning. Because I used to run 15 miles per week, I remember my legs getting very itchy when I used to run a lot. But now....its happening by only walking one mile. I'm wondering if I'm still exerting a lot of energy when considering that I'm eating a lot less. Hence, perhaps this is why I'm very itchy in the thighs when only walking a mile. Just a theory though...not sure. Any thoughts or opinions?

Why Am I So Tired ???

By Peru, IL - about 1.5 hours south west of Downers Grove by Utica. The only thing about Benadryl is I've never had the case of itchiness and I have a strong sense that is not from using a fabric softner or some clothing irritant. I really believe it has to do with me exorcizing (e.g. walking) and my now decreased caloric intake. Just a hunch though .... It was just that strange...because it came out of no where and it was in both of my thighs at the same time I was walking. Just image running 5 miles....in a somewhat cold atmosphere (but not really cold) and all of a sudden your thighs started itching like crazy because of the blood flow......thats what it felt like....very strange ....seriously...it WAS THAT ITCHY

Why Am I So Tired ???

Typically grey cloudy fall weather in Illinois. Not too cold for me...but a tad little brisk was in the air. But what was striking is that it was the same type of itchiness that I got after running 5 miles. Then my mind was trying to find out why (I know that is dangerous sometimes ) The only thing I could think of...is that I'm eating a lot less now and when I exorcize (albeit only walking a a mile) my body is interpreting that I'm exerting a lot of energy when I walk especially when taken into consideration my new caloric intake. Again....just thinking and trying to find out why my thighs were so darn itchy.

Why Am I So Tired ???

Any thoughts on about my itchiness in my thighs? I mean...they were REALLY ITCHY...and I thought that was strange because this only happened when I exerted a lot of energy after running long distances. Thoughts?

Why Am I So Tired ???

That is a good idea. Instead of starting with cream "carb based" Soups, I'll start my day with protein ! P.S. And yes...plenty of fluids and water Thanks Sis

    Sex After Lap-Band Surgery

I was talking to a senior Banster who has been banded for 12 years. He said this regarding your hormones and sex as you loose fat cells: "In your fat cells lay a lot of hormones especially testosterone. When the fat begins to melt off, testosterone is released causing a big spike in your sexual appetite." I'm not a doctor....but I thought what he said was interesting. We shall see

    Sliming

Dumb question....but this is definitely something to file away for the future.....can one PB from the stomach area (through the pouch) and back up? Just curious if that is even possible......just want to learn for knowledge sake....not that I would ever want that to happen....just want to understand. Thanks Sis !

    Sliming

By definition...is PB'ing throwing back up food IN THE POUCH....or throwing food back FROM THE STOMACH (back through the pouch) and out your mouth ? Can anybody please clarify? I swallowed some air (for those that know what I mean) and some of the mushy/melted cake came back up. Thoughts/Opinions?

    Sliming

I think I had my first episode with it today in fact. In short, I was eating a very small bite or 2 of pumpkin creme cheese cake (very small quantity mind you) as it melted in my mouth. Didn't think it was an issue at all.....and then all of a sudden I felt a slight pressure in my chest area....and the next thing I knew a somewhat thick Fluid (not thin saliva fluid) but almost like a gel type of substance (in terms of texture goes)....very strange and odd actually as this is my first experience with it. Wasn't sure if it was the mixture of the cake/cream cheese/frosting or if it was the slime....but I can tell after reading this post....it was my first slime experience.

    Hic Ups

Not to mention....she has already lost 11 lbs in only 23 days. Seems to me...she is already on a a good trend path also.
  20. Thanks Charmie ....I'm not perfect and I do try to put things in perspective. I didn't take it personal, but I do thank you for your kindness ! P.S. I'm just so happy I'm already down 9lbs in 6 days post op and I have thanked God everyday even for the smallest of successes so far. Continued success, MD
  21. The first day...I can barely get Water down. 2 days ago I was able to drink Soups...Now...it seems I can drink a lot more gatorade and water with no problems. Is this normal? It seems almost that I can get anything down...but something tells me I shouldn't be this flexible with Fluid. Just want to be careful...as I ate some small pit of mash potatoes and it melted in my mouth so I didn't think it was a problem. Please don't stone me if this was terrible.... P.S. I just feel I should have more resctriction than this but maybe this is normal. Thoughts?
  22. For my wife and I it was $5500 + $700 airfare = $6200 plus the benefit of a more experienced doctor doing the surgery (which was big for me). You and another person can stay for free at the Hospital for 2 nights (night before and night after). If you want to stay longer you can...but it will be roughly around $70 per night for any decent hotel in Tijuana !
  23. Thanks Maddysgram ! Coming from you....I'll take your advice. You obviously have been working your band journey wisely since you lost all that weight prior to band surgery....and I'm sure are continuing that trend post surgery. Continued success, MD
  24. Wow.....seems like I pissed on someones cherrios here. Forgive me in advance if you feel I disrespected you or anyone on this thread. It wasn't my intention. I try to keep things simple (and on point)...but its going on a whole nother direction then intended. Again...please forgive me in advance. Respectfully submitted, MD
  25. I've researched this....and still felt comfortable as you will have people who die from this surgery no matter what surgeon you are....especially when you do enough surgeries.
