  1. Its going to depend on what your insurance company requires. Mine required a 6 month supervised diet before we could submit for approval. I was approved towards the end of June and I had my surgery on August 4th because we were goign to be going out of town and it was already planned- I didnt want to be driving for 2 days just fresh out of surgery. I did have to do a 2 week preop diet but I was able to do that while on vacation and I had my surgery 3 days after we got back!
  2. I've vomited several times today- earlier when I took one bite too much of jello and then just now. Ive sipped on water and chicken broth this evening but havent had that much and I just got really nauseous and vomited several times. Is this normal?

    Pressure in my chest?

yep- Ive been having that too. I guess I need to pull out my blower thing and actually use it, huh?
  4. I dont think Ive ever been able to wear a bikini- so Im looking forward to that provided I dont have a bunch of loose skin. And since we all like to spill our guts here Im going to come out and say it- I will be happy to wipe my butt like a normal person. Its not that I have a huge butt but my arms are too short to reach around and wipe normally without having to do some acrobatics. Oh and I cant wait to not have to lift up my stomach flab to wash myself or during certain positions during sex. Yes- I did say that one too! LOL!
  5. I decided that bypass was not for me because I didnt want anything permanently done to my body. Plus I didnt want to deal with dumping issues and malabsorption issues. I know there will be issues with the lapband if you dont chew properly or take small enough bites but I like the fact that if worse came to worse and it had to be removed then it could. Plus my husband said not only no but HELLL NO to bypass but supported me in my decision for the lapband.
  6. I went to the hospital wearing a pair of loose workout shorts, a tshirt, my bra, and flip flops. I left wearing everything but the bra- I just thought it would be too painful to put on. I didnt take gas-x to the hospital as I didnt have gas pains until later that night and the next day. But I did send hubby to the store today to get me some liquid tylenol- Ive had a low grade fever and headache today and didnt want to take my lortab for that.
  7. 1. My surgery was about 1.5 hours. 2. Pain hasnt been too bad but I've had 2 prior c-sections and those were much worse. Its just been the gas pain that Ive been dealing with. 3. Im 3 days post op and feeling like total crap. I felt GREAT the day after surgery but days 2 and 3 everythign just hit me. I've been running a low grade fever (normal according to the nurse) and have zero energy. I don't know that I would be able to go to work just 3 days post surgery but Im a wimp too. :smile2: 4. I didnt get too much as far as supplies. Just my pain meds from the doctor, plenty of clear liquids per my instructions from my doctors office. I did have DH go to the store and pick up some flavorless protein powder that I can put in my broth since Im thinking that might help with my weakness. Did your doctors office give you pre and post op diet instructions?
  8. Luckily- I was wearing a pad because OF COURSE I start my period a week early. Im on the freaking pill and I still started a week early so that little bit of annoyance helped avoid a huge mess to clean up because of course I was laying down in bed when it happened. LOL!

    Bmi of 50

Usually if your BMI if 40 or greater you don't have to have any co-morbidities to qualify for surgery.
  10. One thing I learned today is if you think you are going to have just air passing when you are on an all liquid diet and 3 days post surgery- its not just air. ICK.
  11. I think as long as you arent running a fever then you should be fine.
  12. day 3 post op here and I feel like crap. Super tired, horrible headache and absolutely no engery. No pain meds since last night though.
  13. I know how you feel- Im pretty bored myself. But it wasnt until day 2 post op that the wall hit me and I felt like crap and slept most of the day. Im feeling the same way today but I wanted to try and get a little something in my stomach before I lay back down to sleep.
  14. I called a friend of mine last night who is a nurse and who also had the surgery about a year ago and she told me its totally normal because of all of the swelling. That made me feel so much better. I was just shocked last night because I had barely sipped on any Water or chicken broth when I got nauseous and threw up. Today I have had a little bit of water and I made up some carnation sugar free instant Breakfast and have taken a few sips of that and so far so good. Now if I could just rid of this stupid headache. But I havent had pain meds since 8 last night! I might take some liquid tylenol though for the headache.
  15. My surgery was yesterday and I was just curious what kind of side effect people had from the anesthesia. I keep going from hot to cold- almost like I have a fever but I checked my temp and I dont. Is this normal?
  16. I swear I have literally slept most of the day today. I did get a call from the nurse at he hospital and she said that a low post op fever is normal so that made me feel good. I decided to eat some jello today and I was taking small bites every couple of minutes or so but I took one bit to many and my stomach immediately let me know that it was going to come back up. I dry heaved about 4 or 5 times, then dry heaved/burped at the same time (that was wiiieeeeerrrrd), then I threw up just a little bit. I immediately felt better after that but man it sucked. I guess I cant eat 3/4 of a cup of jello right now.

    gas and nausea

walking and gas-x strips. My doctor also gave me a prescription for Zofran. Maybe you can call the doctor and see if they will give you something for that.

    Cold feet?!?

I had cold feet while waiting for my doctor to get to the hospital the day of surgery. LOL! I was thinking to myself that if she didnt show up soon I was yanking out all of the IVs and walking out the door.
  19. I've never heard that- any letters of medical necessity should be coming from your doctors office.
  20. The biggest thing I've learned on this board is that the band is a TOOL and not a magic fix for losing weight. How much weight you lose is directly related to how much effort you put into it. Im 2 days post surgery so I can't speak for long term weight loss but I know that I HAVE to change my eating habits otherwise this was all in vain. I've been told to eat proteins first, then veggies, then carbs if you are going to have any. My nutritionist said he is not against carbs but wants us to make sure and get enough protein in every day since protein is what will keep us fuller for longer. Also, exercise is key to losing weight.
  21. When I met with my surgeon for the first time she asked me if I had considered by-pass and I told her there was no way I would consider it. I didnt want anything permanent done to my body. She said for people with higher BMI that bypass patients lose weight more quickly. I do have a high BMI but its because Im short- she said usually people who have more than 200 lbs to lose do better with the bypass but I dont have that much to lose so she thought I would do good with the band. Regardless of what she thought I knew I did not want bypass- husband was dead set against that and I didnt like the post op complications that came from bypass.
  22. OMG that is just horrendous. You need to call the charge nurse, tell your doctor, and even if you have to call the head honcho at the hospital and tell them what happened to you. NOONE should be treated that way. Its absolutely unacceptable. Im so sorry you had to go through that.
  23. you want the solid food that you do eat to stay in the pouch as long as possible so you arent hungry. If you drink water during the meal or shortly afterwards it pushes everything through the pouch.

Did you have to do pre-op diet??

I did 2 weeks of a low carb/high protein diet- no more than 30 gms of carbs per day and at least 70 gms of protein. Day before surgery I was on clear liquids.
  25. I did my 6 month diet through my PCP and only had to pay a minimal amount for that after what insurance covered. I did have to pay $75 for an exercise consult and $100 for the nutrition consult. Psych eval was covered by my insurance.
