  1. Hey Soco,

Are you allowed to have Protein Shakes or just clear liquids? I just caved and had an Atkins shake. 150 cals, low carb, it won't kill me, but sort of bummed that I cheated a little by straying from the broth. Honestly, I just don't want all that sodium!

Looks like I lost 5 or maybe even 6 lbs so far....You know, the exact same 5 I lost earlier this month :blushing:

Good luck to you! Soon I will be in the car with my husband on our way to the hotel in Denver. I know he will want to stop by McD's or something along the way. He better not!

I'm sure one shake isn't going to throw anything off.. As for me, No, no shakes. Just Clear liquids they did specify no milk products .. I wonder why? I'm wondering if I can have coffee.. I'm starving and caffeine curbs my appetite. They said tea was okay and did not specify non caffeinated.. Look at me.. one day before and I'm trying to cheat  I have to be strong! Okay well Good Luck! and God Bless You.. I will keep all of us in my prayers tonight..

Okay ladies' date=' we're almost there.. Good Luck to Us All !![/size']

Today, I went on u tube and seen some lap band failures.. I must say they got me a little nervous.. But, I figured I should see them and get a different perspective.. I did notice a several similarities, it seemed that after throwing up they did not return to two days of all liquids. That is what my doctor recommends.. After that it seemed that things went down hill, obstructions, slippage, and more. So, lets ask a lot of questions and be prepared.. Lots of Love and Prayers to All

  3. I didn't have any restriction after surgery. I think that is the experience of the majority of people (although a few do experience restriction with no fill). If you don't feel restriction in the few weeks after surgery, that will be pretty normal (that is why its called 'bandster hell'). I had my second fill yesterday, but after my first fill I also didn't have much restriction either. I think on average, most people report restriction after 3-4 fills (but its different for every person, and also different based on whether or not your doctor is more aggressive or conservative with fill levels).

Thank You for the info.. I will have to stay on my toes after surgery and be mindful of this.. I truly want to be a success story.. Unfortunately I hear my Doctor is a bit conservative when it comes to fills...

  4. Hello my name is Valory andi go to my first seminar on 9-9-09 and have just one question if the band is not inflated when you get the operation then how are you losing weight before your first fill

Hello Valory, to answer your question. The weight loss starts as soon as they place the band around your stomach. The band itself is a restrictive device that prevents you from over eating. The fills are used to further restrict the amount of food it takes you to get that full feeling. I'll be getting banded Sept 1st..

  5. Just wanted to say welcome to all the newest posters and surgery dates posted!!!

Also, quick question...how long did you guys wait to call your insurance about if your approved? Did you call at all or wait for the letter? Tomorrow is a week and a day and I want to call so bad but don't want to bug either. I was just curious! :)

I think you should call.. forget about bugging them. It's their job, besides in these cases persistence does pay off. Sometimes they have a desk full of papers and if it takes a call for them to find yours... What are you waiting for do it! Good Luck and You were right it seemed like I wasn't loosing any weight and then all of a sudden I notice my clothes are looser. However, I've been afraid to jump on the scale... :)

  6. I have a September 3 surgery date. My doctor has a 2 week Protein Bar / Protein Shake regimen that I was supposed to start this past Thursday. I had to have both an upper and lower GI scope to get cleared for surgery. Those were done on Wednesday and Thursday last week, so no real food, only liquids for those days. Then came the weekend - we had out of town guests Friday and Saturday. I did pretty good on the shakes each day until dinner, when I broke down and ate.

Today is better, although I am starving. I am really worried about shrinking my liver, as my doctor ordered a CT scan for my abdomen to diagnose some spots. The spots wre no big deal, but they were concerned about the size of my liver. This pre-op diet has to work for me, as I have almost a year invested in this process so far. I am really having a hard time with will power, but need to find a way to tough it out.

Good luck to all of the other September bandsters.

Hang in there BonanzaMan, I'm getting banded the 1st. I was put on a 2shakes,one reasonable meal a day diet till Sunday. Then it's an all liquid diet till the Big Day on Tuesday. I haven't lost any weight, I hope they don't re-schedule. I think is the stress of the surgery. I've tried to do all liquids but, like you I give in.

  7. Hi, I am getting banded Sept. 1, and can't wait to start this weight loss journey. I started my pre-op liquids Aug.19. I have been drinking the EAS Protein Shakes, crystal light, Water. diet pepsi. and iced tea.

Hello mosean, You mean to tell me that they put you on an All liquid diet?? OMG I'm still screwing around with what I put into my mouth.. I so need to get it going.. I'm starting to get a do or die feeling... Yikes! :(

  8. Hey everyone! I'm scheduled for Sept 8th and I'm getting nervous! My 7 day pre-op diet starts on Sept 1st and I've been in the binge/eat everything i see mentality! Most of the threads I read, everyone is losing weight before their pre-op diets and I'm pretty sure mine is piling on, ugh feel like a slacker already! I'm also self pay so I haven't had to lose any for insurance purposes etc. I'm ready for my pre op to start so I'll be forced to stop eating! I'm so ready to get my band and get this weight off!

Just thought I'd introduce myself and looking forward to talking with you all!

Hello aberchic, It's called the "last supper" Mentality. When you feel everything you put in your mouth is because "It will be the last time I eat it" Not True... That's like the "I'll work it off tomorrow" or the "I'll be good the rest of the week" THAT!!... IS WHY WE ARE HERE!!!.... It wasn't the LAST time. WE didn't work it off and WE weren't "GOOD" the rest of the week.. NOW WE must look forward and remember NO past.. LOOK FORWARD to The Healthy YOU!!

  9. -

    thanks for the note back...

sept. 1 st is coming fast. I was not put on a pre op diet, but just the day before a lowfat, type low cal, bland diet. - but I have started somewhat of drinking Protein drinks to feel out my likes and dislikes. I was thinking of putting my self on the liquid diet in the middle of next week. - to get used to the idea

I am also getting more nervous when i sit down and really thing about this.. but I do know it is for the best.

Hello Hart 37, I am getting Banded on September 1st. I was put on a pre op diet because of the liver, since the band is place on the upper part of the stomach and the stomach is directly behind the liver. It is necessary for the liver to shrink. ( the liver is the first organ to gain or lose fat). My doctor told me to go on a liquid diet the Sunday before the surgery. That should shrink the liver enough to make it easier for the surgeon to get to my stomach comfortably.. read up on it, remember we want to to make it as simple as possible for the doctor to do our procedure to ensure our success... I read that the procedure could be postponed because the liver isn't small enough... good luck!

  10. Hello everyone, Katklaws, I too feel like the clock is ticking and need to stock up on things.. First, I have to find out what brands are good. Magan Hang in there.. of course we are going to do this.. Why?? because we all know life without this surgery.. And if WE wanted to continue down that path, then none of us would be here. Think of why we want this so bad, and not so much what we'll be losing out on. I'm craving an apple fritter so badly. But in all honesty, throughout my life, I have eaten so many of them that if I never eat one again. I'll be okay. You guys know what else I wont have.. That grim feeling when I see a person bigger then me, painfully walking and I wonder if I will be that person in the future.. Sad but true. I know we'll get through this.. Okay guys I'm off to my primary to get all my pre-op lab slips. Hey, I need a ticker.. how did you guys get those cute tickers on the bottom of your posts?

  11. Hello my fellow Septembers.. Well the day to my long journey is almost here. September 1ST! I'm both excited and scared.. My weight has fluctuated for the last year or so. My highest weight being 280lbs. Now that was scary!! I couldn't even put on my shoes, my feet were so swollen. I have been diabetic for the last 15 years and as of yet it hasn't effected my blood pressure, kidneys nor eye sight.. Thank God! Both my parents being diabetic I have seen first hand the path that was in store for me.. That is without the lap-band. I started in late 2007 but was delayed by an ulcer that was discovered in one of my pre-op upper GI's. I am currently 257lbs and trying to shed a little more before the surgery. I was put on a pre-op diet of one meal and two shakes a day. I am drinking Herbalife shakes. I have tasted many a shakes in my life long weight loss struggle. ( Life long.. I was born 10lbs 8oz ) I can say these truly leave me feeling full. However they don't contain the Protein needed post-op. I was told I needed to have 60mg of protein a day.. I'll have to look for a replacement.. Any suggestions please let me know..I just recently came across this site. I am looking forward to finding and offering support. :)
