  1. No way! I refuse to gain back the 15 I have lost so far. I will put myself back on that clear liquid diet before I let that happen! That would be so disappointing. You know, I added it up and the first week I was eating 800 cals or less, now I am 1000-1200. That still is not very much. As long as I can keep it around here and not gain anymore I will be happy until my first fill.

I'm with you Gen, even though it's only been 10 pounds for me.. They are not coming back. I haven't counted my calories but, that's a good idea. I'm still getting shoulder pain. I hope it goes away soon. How are you doing?

  5. Hello 10bluetoes! Got the night before crazies yet?

My surgery today went as follows..

    At hospital at 8am

had about 5 or 6 people in and out of my room before the

doc got there shortly after 9

once the doc left the wonderful man who gives out the calming coctails came back in and loaded me up, I don't even remember the trip to the OR. They are very kind over at Soutwest Surgical and helped my experience become not so scary after all. I was terrified going in but they made me feel at ease quickly!

by 11:30 I was awake, hit the xray machine and was back home by Noon. I live a block away so that helps.

I have been sipping Water all day, tried a shake, 2 sips and I was done.. for some reason its suddenly too sweet now. Tried chicken broth, tasted too savory, and I even tried a fat free popsicle.. gross even sweeter than the shake.

The nausea is horrible but they were nice enough to give a prescription of suppositories that even with insurance cost almost $70 bucks! My sister went to pick my my scripts and had I known it was that much I would have told her forget it. Yes I can be cheap at times. I guess I shouldn't complain though because my out of pocket for the entire surgery was only $277.

Oh yeah... tonight I puked , lots of dry heaves and a few tiny drops of water was all the reward I got for the horrifying experience.. Don't get me wrong I would rather not have vomiting issues but dagnabit if you are going to make me feel like crap at least let enough progress happen to where the nausea is gone.

Apparantely my dr.. Dr. Snow out of Hurst is also starting to do the single incision procedure however he did not bless me with it.. I got all 5.

Bottom line, would I do it again? Heck yes I would :)

Wow you are so alert.. I was out of it for two days.. Kudos Girlfriend.. I was given the suppositories too.. However, I didn't use them and my co-payment was only 10 bucks.. Wish I could email them to you.. take care.. :sneaky:

  6. I did learn the hard way, if it says decaff, use only decaff.. I got sick on sat. did not leave the house at all. I had a recipie mix for my Protein Shakes and used the wrng coffee..

ms_hart, What is it that you felt?? This Morning, I had a Mcdonalds sugar free vanilla iced coffee. Mother of God!! ... My stomach is still cramping up. I got the runs but, the stomach cramps are the WORST!! Ayyy... this is it.. I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel... Okay maybe I shouldn't be so dramatic but, it Huuurrrrttss!!!... Also I'm thinking of changing my name to EXXON or SHELL.. How is it humanly possible that a person can have so much Gas.. Sorry Guys if it's too much information.. Okay yesterday at the bbq they had Beans and I figured it would be okay if I had a little of the juice.. I thought "there high in Iron, contain Protein hey it's still liquid.." I don't know if it was that or the coffee. I only sipped half of a medium cup. I have also made me some at home. As for the beans.. I'm Mexican- I've had plenty of beans and not felt this before.. What do you guys think?

  7. hi all. I am new to this forum thing. I will be getting the band on Sept 24th. I go for my pre-op appt on the 10th and start my liquid diet on the 11th. Starting to get a little excited and nervous both.

Well, Welcome Aboard leigna, I think most of us felt the same way.. You'll be fine. I hope we can be here for help and support. As you can see some of us already had the procedure done and believe me.. We all made it through.. Even though some of our experiences were different we're here to share them all..

When you get a chance don't forget to sign our ongoing list of names and dates..

  8. Can anyone tell me how to get on the 09-09 list and how to get a weight loss ticker on my profile?> thx

Hello bradybrat, You can get a ticker by going on tickerfactory.com.. There you can make your own. Make sure you remember your password as you will need it to update your progress. I forgot mine and had to create a whole new ticker... Okay once you create it. On the Upper, left hand corner of this page you will see UserCP, click on it and it takes you to your profile. On the left margin area click on Edit Signature. That takes you to an empty box, copy and paste your ticker there. You can also write in info, and add smileys.. Don't Forget! to hit the Save Signature in the bottom orange box.. I Hope this helps..

  11. Good morning all.. well tomorrow is the big day for me. I am not as nervous as I was before but the whole not being banded due to a thick liver has me worried. I didn't follow the preop to a T. But I did drink alot of slimfast and Water.

Question.. lubricant spray for the mouth? That is a new one to me...and special brands, locations where it can be purchased?

I still have no idea what my current weight is

Hope everyone has a successful day today!!

Good Luck!.. I will keep you in my Prayers.. Believe me it's not that bad.. Try going on clear liquids for the rest of the day.. Starve that liver of carbs so that it'll shrink..

  12. Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I'm getting banded on 9/16, so excited. It's nice to read your stories of being banded in the last few days, and those of you looking forward like me. Take care and congratulations.

OMG Jes, You've done so well on your pre-op diet. I'm very impressed... Good Luck!

Hey all... I am brand new here. My surgery is on Sept 10th. I am so excited... but I must admit, my doc had me on a pre op 10 day diet of just lean meats and veggies, but I didnt follow it so well.... ok.. not at all.. I just deserve a kick in the rear, but I am going to do all liquids until my surgery... 4 days away.. just hoping t work ok.. It all has to do with the liver being large and in the way..... wish me luck all!

Schase: I'm sure you'll be fine if you stick to Clear Liquids for four days... Good Luck!

Ladies, remember to take some mouth lubricant spray, chapstick and mouth wash. When you wake up from the surgery and the rest of that day your mouth is extremely dry.. I tried dissolving some ice chips and swallowing too soon and it made me nauseous.. Remember everyone is different but, it's better to be prepared. When you do start swallowing several hours after surgery it won't be much... so the chapstick will help. Also, the anesthesia leaves a most undesirable taste in your mouth and that's were the mouth wash comes in handy.. Post-op Gals if there's anything else you can add please do so, As this info would have helped me tremendously.. I only had chapstick..

  13. I'm glad to hear you are doing well. I remeber your profile because I was banded on 9/2. I start full liquids oday also. If you come across any "yummy" Soups PLEASE let me know. Trying to get in my head that "this is not a diet i's a way of life", so I am trying to find things that taste good. TTYL! Keep in Touch.

Ivy, I feel the same way.. But, I have a plan. Girl don't you know as soon as I can have mushies, I'm going to puree some steak add a drop or two of A1 sauce and mmm mmm. I can't wait..

  14. I'm not positive if this is true for the person who wrote this, but I have been losing because I am not hungry...at all. I have to force myself to drink my Protein shakes and then have a little Soup or yogurt besides. It has taken away my hunger....that is wonderful. I have gained and lost 100 pounds at least four times in my life, but have always gained it back and more besides. I know that when the doctor put in my band this past Monday (8/31/09) he added a small fill. I can drink easily, but I am on a liquid diet until Friday (9/11/09) when I will start my mushy stage. I wieghed 375 at my last appointment with my doctor before surgery, and I weigh 354 right now. I know I will continue to lose. It will take a little time at first for the doctor to find the right amount to add to my band so that I can eat a healthy diet and feel full. I have known people who are successful and not successful with the band, but most are successful. I wish you luck!

Right On  .... I'm glad to hear about your success.. I got banded 9/1/09 at 253 and am now 244.. I had bad shoulder pain due to the co2. I'm 5 days post-op and still have a little pain on and of but, It's so worth it. I'm having problems sipping since I've been a gulper for so long. So I have that Ball feeling in the stomach after I drink something. but, once the liquid goes down it goes away.. I just have to practice sipping small amounts.

  15. Thank You all who contributed to my question about BM.. I'm going to try Colace and see if it does the trick. I love that we can write so candidly... Let's keep on Trackin' Forward.... There's no turning back.

Also, I've noticed I can drink a little more without feeling totally full or bloated... Oh No! I hope I don't experience what they refer to as Bandsters Hell...:)

When is that suppose to happen?

  16. Wow....I had so many posts to catch up on.

Congrats to all those who have had their surgeries and working out how to deal with various post-op stuff.

Unfortunately, I had a very rare issue happen in my surgery so it took me 2 nights in the hospital and more time to feel up to posting..but things are good and I am not in danger anymore..so..I am just enjoying my lack of hunger.

I started blogging...I tend to post long posts..so I thought it was probably better to blog. If you want to read the whole store you can read it if you like.

For those of you still waiting for your date...keep working hard on your pre-op requirements! Good luck to you all!

I haven't weighed myself yet..I am waiting until Tuesday so I get a one week weigh check...especially since I had more Fluid retention, etc.. because of my additional issue.

    *hugs to you all*

Welcome back... I read your blog... OMG you poor thing I didn't even know they could do that. Well, I'm glad you're back home and everything is okay. It's great that the doctor decided to put the band in. That would have been such a let down... Good Luck!

  17. Get banded and come back having to read up about 10 pages...LOL everyone is post post post...LOVE IT.

I am so glad to hear that most of the post banders are doing good.

My surgery was yesterday and it went well. The hospital staff was great from the admission person to the person that walked me out this AM.

I am so glad I did this.

I did not have really any gas pain. I am bloated, period started this AM, which I knew it was coming. Been taking Maalox and Liquid Tylenol. No Pain meds. I did have Morphine when they got me into recovery and then a pain med last night just to help me sleep.< /p>

Really for all of you out there worried. It really is not bad. I got up and walked around as soon as they would let me. That helped. Also I have remained positive and upbeat about all of it. And kept my sense of humor as best as I can. They say laughter is the best medicine right. :)

I am pretty tired. I did not sleep well the night before surgery and then last night went to bed around Midnight and was up at 4 am for a few hours, went back to bed around 6 am, they came in just as I drifted off at 6:30 AM then slept till about 8 am. Then I met with the surgeons nurse who gave me all my paperwork and was discharged by 10 AM.

I wish like most I would have done this so much sooner.

    My post op diet is:

2 weeks - clear liquids only. Isopure makes clear liquid drink with 40 grams of Protein in them I got them for my meals and then the rest of the day is Water, crystal light type drinks, anything clear.

2 weeks - Full liquids - all the ones from the first two weeks but now can add milk, cream Soups, anything more heavy and not see through but can't chew. Yogurt, pudding, Protein Shakes.< /p>

2 weeks - Soft/Mushy - eggs, tuna, Broiled chicken, Fish, Deli meat, only 2 to 3 oz with again all the stuff from prior weeks to help me out till my first fill that should be at the end of the soft phase.

Again so glad to hear everyone is doing well. Everyone going in coming up...remember stay positive, get up and and start moving as soon as you can, and don't be afraid to ask questions know what is going one etc.

:) Here is to the banded life!!! :smile2:

Well, I am back home. Surgery was yesterday (Friday) and everything went great. I have little pain. Most of the pain is in one incision. The rest feel fine. Doctor said I only have to do one more week of clear liquids instead of two weeks. I am so excited about starting mushies next week. I have been on Clear liquids since Aug. 21st. Today, I have been sipping on water and ate one popsicle, but other that that I have not been hungry at all. I hope I feel full like this for a long time. That would definitely make dieting easy. I am so happy I had the surgery, it was a piece of cake. For everyone else with surgeries coming up, don't worry, everything has been worth it so far !! Well, going to rest for awhile. Ta-Ta for now.

    JoLynne

Welcome Back Gals, I hope your first days are good..

Cortney: I'm drinking the Isopure drinks too. I find there a little think but, tolerable. At first I couldn't drink much so I drank it straight but then I started diluting them with sugarfree kool-aid. You have to try several because I found the apple one gross..

Jolynne: You're lucky not to have the gas pain. Not everyone has it. I hope your incision feels better. I have to wait a little longer for the mushies...

  18. Day 4 post-op: I'm moving around well. Maybe a little slow. I feel like if I walk to fast or do any abrupt movements I could open one of the incisions. School started, so I had a 9am class this morning. I found it hard to sit through the entire three hours. The desk was right were one of the incisions was. Thank God he let us out early.. I then went to my dentist office where I had a temporary crown re-cemented.. My stomach was growling something awful. I didn't drink my shake when I left the house. I calmed it down with a little Isopure mixed with Sugarfree Kool-Aid. I stopped at rite aid and picked up some colace and more GasX. This is gross but, I haven't had a bowel movement since before the surgery.. Is that normal?

But, As you can see I'm feeling okay and driving out and about. I must admit I feel a little tired. I'm going to take my Vitamins and a Protein shake.. mmm maybe s sugar-free iced coffee..yummy :)

  19. Hi Amanda... I was banded on 9/2. I am doing OK. Gas pains are the WORSE!! Also I have some tenderness near one f my incisions. Other than that I'm so excited about beginning to see my transformation. We must keep in touch!!

Hello Ivy, I was banded on the 1st and you're right. The gas pain is the worst.. Walking helps tremendously. My nurse said that some patients get the gas pain on the back!.. I'm glad mine was in the shoulder and stomach.

I think the port incision is probably a little more sore. At least it is for me.. :sneaky:

  20. good morning, to everyone having surgery today, good luck. and to those of us already banded, YEA!!!! you know when your skinny friends used to say " i havent eaten all day, i dont even think about food". or " i forgot to eat today". Believe it or not, that is how I feel now. Not sure if it is just a mind thing or what, but I feel like I have to force myself to drink. Colorado or Soco, do you feel that way? I have no appetite at all. I dont feel sick, just no appetite. I always wondered what that felt like to not think about food almost constantly. :sneaky:

I'm not feeling much of an appetite either. Although, I am concern about getting my Vitamins and Protein in. So pretty much I force myself to finish my Protein drinks and Vitamins.< /span>

I was still doing all Clear liquids. However, today I had a phone consultation with my doctors nurse and she said I was suppose to be on an "All liquid" diet. Okay, so I tried to eat some low carb yogurt. Two teaspoons and I felt so full, like I had pigged out at a buffet. Maybe I'll stick to broth for a bit..

  21. Im still on 2 week liquid diet and am having great trouble NOT thinking of food right now I hope this 2 weeks goes fast. Im so so happy all of you earlier Sept bandsters are doing well hare to believe after surg you say you have not much of an appitite because Im starving now. But good to hear so I know the band will help with the appitite controll. Good luck to all of you let me know how you all are doing. My surg is Sept 16th

Good Luck Dean just hang in there.. The reason I think I don't have much of an appetite is because I'm totally preoccupied with all the new feeling my stomach is having. That and the painful shoulder gas... That by the way not everyone gets.. I used the hebalife shakes that really made me feel full but, they didn't have much Protein. Another lifesaver for me was the chicken broth but that was on a clear liquid diet. If you're just on a liquid diet you can have much tastier Soups. I'm sure time will fly by... :smile2:

  22. Yeah Soco!!!!! You made it to the banded side of life! Look how much you are losing already!

I can't imagine doing it without the pain meds! I too woke up with a huge pain in my chest, and it is still there on and off - the gas.

I don't know what to do about the Protein. The Protein Shakes now taste way too sweet for me (I actually used to like them! Slimfast anyway) I tried making some SF pudding and adding Unflavored protein - yuck!

So glad to hear you made it through okay. Let the weight loss begin!

I'm pretty shocked about the weight loss.. I wasn't losing any weight prior to surgery.. even on the all liquid diet.. Yeah the gas is the worse, my incisions don't even hurt.. I was surprised they are so small. Oh.. and your tummy does look good. Very shapely woo hoo!

As for the protein, like I said that vial was gross. I also bought some bottles of Isopure at GNC. They have 40 grams of protein and 0 carbs only drawback it's a 20oz bottle. That seems like alot of liquid... That's in the clear liquid spectrum. I think I read that you can drink shakes. I was drinking Premier Nutrition protein shakes from costco. They're pretty good with 30 grams of protein, 160 calories and 5 carbs. They come premix in little containers and are only 11 oz. I think those are going to be my choice of protein when I start introducing shakes into my diet. As for the sweetness, maybe you could Water them down.

Today, I tried some SF Jello. Unfortunately, I didn't break it up or dissolve it in my mouth enough, so when I swallowed it felt like it got stuck for a bit... weird.. :smile2:

  23. Hello All, I'm back and checking in.. Had surgery on the 1st.. I woke up feeling terrible pain in my left shoulder I was convinced someone kicked my a** in surgery.. It was only gas.. I came back from the hospital yesterday still feeling very weak and groggy with the shoulder pain. But, I didn't want to take any pain medication. I was trying to tough it out. I don't like the fuzzy feeling from the meds (big mistake). I had a bad night.. and today I finally gave in and drank the nasty pain med. I feel good.. I have to walk maybe that will help with gas although the gasX strips are great. All in All I'm doing good.. I haven't had too much of an appetite.. I'm still just sipping broth and clear liquids.. Sipping-- I made a big mistake and took a gulp not a chug but a good gulp and felt a big ball/lump in my chest.. eek I can't even imagine eating like I used to..

Amanda and Colorado I'm glad you Gals are doing good.. Oh by the way I bought some Profect Protein Vials at costco YUK they are nasty.. Tell me how are you Gals getting protein and vitamins.. remember protein heals the body.. We Did It!

253 the day of surgery 9/1

    248 Yesterday 9/2

    246 today 9/3

I did pee like a horse after surgery my potassium even went down and I needed to take some nasty, salty, liquid before leaving the hospital..
