Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Hey Jason. Nice to hear from you. Happy New Year! I do hope you can make the next meeting. I know what you mean about losing loved ones. I lost my Aunt Joyce the day before Christmas Eve. We had talked with her around lunchtime and two hours later she was gone. She makes the 7th family member I've lost in 2009. All were old except for my retarded cousin (53yrs) but it's still hard to deal with the losses. I have a question, please. How do I know if I've stretched out my pouch? I am getting paranoid b/c I'm at 7.5ccs and don't really feel enough restriction. Some days I can eat a cup of protein and a cup of veggies and other days I can't manage that much. I'm afraid I'm serving myself too much and if I don't watch it, I can eat the whole serving. Apparently I'm not doing well with just "eye-balling" the amount. I do use a smaller plate and a small fork, chew & take time eating but the amounts seem to be more than I thought I would be eating. I didn't want to become a measuring addict but I might have too. I am losing steadily but still afraid of stretching it out too much. Somebody say something to make me feel better about all of this, please........

Stretched Pouch
1) How do you know if you have stretched your pouch? 2) If you have stretched it some, would going on liquids for a few days help it?

Telling people, Judgements, and Accountability with the Band
I told everybody that was important and a few others found out from them. Everyone is very supportive to me.

The Card...Do you have one?
I have one but I often eat from the kid's menu if it's allowed. There are lots of good kid food if you're eating somewhere that is a bit nicer than a McDonalds, etc. I love to eat at Cracker Barrel so I can have a nice bowl of soup.

"Bottomless pit" days...
Eat more protein. It also sounds like "Head Hunger" more than actual hunger. Hang in there.

In order to be thin in 2010, what are your commitments?
First of all, I am committed to strengthening my prayer life and thanking God for His many blessings in my life. I am committed to doing the very best I can so that my health will continue to improve and my weight will continue to come down.

skin removal
We recently had a re-contruction body surgeon come speak at our seminar. He said that when we go three months w/o a weight loss, it would be time for skin removal, tummy tucks, etc. Of course, that is after we have lost the expected weight....not just a plateau. He also said that overall, most people have to have at least three surgeries. Tummy, Arms, and a Panni (which is a shortened name). It 's the area above the belly button. Tummy tuck is below.

My wife is scheduled for surgery...concerned
Just be a loving husband and NOT a judge! She will need your support but not your judgements. Let her set the pace of what she tells and who. You might want to try to do some of the things she will doing also since you said you had a weight problem. However, don't get in a contest with her over it. Men lose faster than women and you don't want her to think you're out to show her up. Have a pillow in the car for the drive home. Put it between her tummy & the seat belt. Have some Gas-X strips on hand, plenty of Water, some Benefiber (in case), and the broths/protein shakes/jello/etc that she can have. Don't be surprised if she sleeps in a reclinder for a few nights. Encourage her to walk around the house to help with the gas. You sound like a great concerned hubby, so you should be alright.

What do you look like in your dreams?
btreiger: Sorry, no offence, but I could do w/o the picture! It's bad enough to have to see my own fat body w/o seeing another's. Guess I'm getting too old & set in my ways.

A little motivation (before/after pics...let's see 'em!)

Bigpapa back in the House
Alright! Nice to see that you are on track again. Don't let your knee rehab get in the way of your journey. Work it together. Hang in there and get it all done.

I messed up...
It is probably trapped gas. Please re-think this issue of drinking soda. Is it really worth the chance? It isn't for me.

surgery a success!
Congrats. So happy you took the first big leap. It will get better each day. Hang in there.

Calf & Leg Pain Post-Surgery
Drink your water as you have been told. Ask your doctor about Quinine (not sure of sp) tablets. They are over the counter at Walmart and the box just says "Leg Cramps". Red/white box. If your doctor allows carbonated beverages, you can get the same effect from Tonic water which has Quinine in it. Just add a crystal lite tube to help with the bitterness. Both work.

Help! Advice wanted!
Journal exactly what you are eating and check it over carefully. You may be getting too many calories or not enough w/o realizing it. Are you drinking your water (64oz daily) Are you doing any exercises at all and how much. Just don't give up...you can do this...it just might take more work than you thought.

Sick Kid at party
STAY HOME! You have had surgery recently. You don't need an infection of any kind.

Happy new year to you all!
Thank you and Happy New Year to you also. Even tho I have lost 63 pounds in four months, I don't feel it yet. I look in the mirror and still don't see it. However, my clothes are telling me. I hope that next year I too can say "I've lost 103" just like you. God Bless you in 2010.

OMG I accidentally swallowed gum
I have never in my life swallowed gum! I was taught to throw it away when the flavor was gone. I was also told my the doctor not to chew gum ever again and I don't. I paid too much and jumped thru too many loops to get my surgery. I am not going to take a chance on ruining my band for a silly peice of gum! Best to rethink that gum idea.

Surgeon's Office in Decline
Excuse me, you should not be having reflux or abdominal pains. Reflux usually means there is something wrong with the band...like erosion. Drive the 100 miles if you can get another surgeon to see you. You don't need to fool around with this. Do yourself a favor and get other advise.
