Restriction question
Yep, been there, done that. One day I can eat eggs and cheese and the next I can't. Sometimes, chicken is hard too. I'm tighter in the a.m. than at night too. Makes no sense but at least you're not alone.

First Fill

Poop Question....
I was like SDH said in the beginning. I was advised to get the stool softner, eat Fiber One cereal when I moved to solids and a peeled apple in the afternoons. My bowels are fine now as long as I do what was advised. Everyone is different.

Need a good protien shake to keep me full.
Atkins Advantage shakes are tasty and have high protein count. Walmart has them or Sam's carries them by the case. I prefer Vanilla in most things and I want it really cold.

Being converted to gastric bypass......
I have already posted once on this subject but I can't get you out of my mind. I am worried about you. Please, please don't get a gastric bypass done at your age. Get another doctor (not a friend in the Army), take your journals to him/her, go to a support group. DO everything you can to make this band work. You want to be there for your child and I'm afraid you are heading down the wrong road with this idea. You didn't put the weight on overnight and you can't take it off overnight. Your doctor is not helping you. It isn't his body that will have to suffer all the side effects. What kind of a doctor would even suggest this surgery before exploring every possible means of success. Sounds like he is knife happy. As someone else posted, a short time ago you were complaining about eating junk food, stress, the baby, etc. You aren't doing what you are suppose to do and that's why you are failing. It's your fault....not the band. Please re-vamp yourself and start again. You may save your own life if you do.

Being converted to gastric bypass......
1) Get a second opinion from a civilian doctor. One that does this type of surgery all the time. 2) Be prepared to experience a huge organ change that causes chronic diarrhea. 3) Be prepared for dumping syndrone 4) Be prepared to take supplements for the rest of your life 5) You HAVE to drink 64oz of water everyday 6) It is not reversible ever. Is weight loss that important to you??? 7) You cannot have some cancer treatments 8) Be prepared to re-gain the weight (2 out of 5 people do) 9) My friend was told "no more pregnancies". Not sure if this is true. 10) Pray about it, think carefully, give your band another chance and do everything you can to make it work. 11) Civilian insurances pay for this surgery....what makes you think your new one wouldn't. 12) What does your hubby think about it?

HELP! What is "stuck" ?
Oh sweetie, you will KNOW when something is stuck or you are eating too fast, or you didn't take small enough bites. The pain between your breasts will let you know in a NY minute. You will think you are having a heart attack! Don't try to drink anything thinking it will help...it will only make it worse. Take deep breaths, bend from the waist several times and hope it passes. Papaya tabs will help too sometimes. Don't make yourself vomit. You will probably have some slimming too. Sometimes, you might burp and you'll get some relief. The nice thing is that the pain will go away as fast as it came when the food passes thru. Good luck. I hope you never have to experience this feeling.

In pain and Scared
Call your doctor!

Is this what they call "bandster hell"
It is real important to follow your doc's directions during this healing time. Now is when it is mostly up to you & not your band to curve your eating, get in your protein, and drink your water. Walking is good too. Don't be so hung up on weighing right now. The weight will start to come off if you're doing what you are suppose to do. Good luck.

Is this normal?
Most mornings I drink a shake. If I wait until around 9a.m., I can eat cereal or a scrambled egg with cheese. I'm tighter in the a.m..

2 month check-up and weight loss
That's just great news. I know you are happy over the weight loss but just think about the meds....that's the best news out of all of this.

What is happening to me? OMG!
Try drinking hot tea. It will help the pill melt faster. In the future, cut it up or buy chewable.

i need a refresher...high protein foods
Erin, be careful with the bananas as they can be constipating. However, eating a peeled apple each day will help with that problem if you have it and adds fiber to your diet. This is a little chart that I cut out of a magazine. It was done by Betsy Tower, whoever she is. It is done in a prymid(sp?) shape. Maybe it will help you too. Food:------ Gms of Protein 1cup chicken-- 43gms 5oz salmon-- 42gms 1cup turkey-- 41gms 1c. canned soybeans-- 29gms 3oz raost beef-- 26gms 1c. NF cottagecheese-- 25gms 3oz ground beef-- 22gms 3oz ham-- 18gms 1 cup lentils-- 18gms 1c. Beans canned-- 15gms 1 c plain low-fat yogurt-- 12gms 1 cup milk 1%-- 8gms 8oz peas, canned-- 8gms 1/4 block tofu-- 7gms 1oz cheddar cheese-- 7gms 1oz nuts-- 7gms 1 large egg-- 6gms 1 tsbp peanut butter-- 4gms 1/2 c ice cream,SF-- 3gms I have this chart posted on my fridge. Hope it helps.

Sad news
I went for my 5th fill last week and b/c I had lost 9.5 lbs in four weeks, she would not do another one. She said that she was afraid that she would block me too much and to come back in six weeks. I presently have 7.5ccs in my 11cc band. Since I am having some minor stuck episodes, I am alright with decision after thinking about it. We'll see what six weeks will bring.

Valentine Day Challenge?
I'm not losing and not gaining! Darn it, I had hoped to pull off at least 10 pounds by the 14th. Just have to work harder, I guess.

Mission trip to Haiti...questions...
emjay has given you some really good advice. I hope you will take it. Your compassion is wonderful but I suggest that you find a ways & means to help from a home base right now. Water, sleeping quarters, bathrooms, & food is in very very short supply. You have to consider your own healing and health right now.

Post Surgery Motorcycle Ride
I don't ride, would never ride, so my advice is probably not going to be taken seriously, but your body needs 6 weeks to heal inside under normal circumstances. Since you can't guarantee that you won't become a flying projectile off that bike, hit any potholes, ride over rough terrain, have to abruptly serve so a car doesn't hit you, etc. etc, I would advise you to stay at home this time. Your health & interior body healing should be your priority. Please rethink your choices. This advice, for what it is worth, comes from a retired nurse that has had to take care of too many patients that became flying projectiles.

Gas-X Strips for Post-Op Shoulder Pain?
I used them per doctor's instructions. I was sick with a respiratory virus and wasn't able to walk too much for the first week. SO, I think they helped me. However, you do have to follow the instructions on the box in order for them to work properly.

Lost a lot weight but belly fat....
Recently had a plastic surgeon speak at our group. He said that you can work on the underneath muscle masses but the fat layer on top will require some sort of removal. He had a slide show to explain the differences.

spelling error
The more we use improper English, we eventually become use to it, and it begins to sound alright. Hang on to your education. It may become a precious commodity one of these days.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
I take the docusate sodium at night and I eat Fiber One cereal in the mornings. Also eat a peeled apple in the afternoon. All of this is per Ashley's okay. I don't have any problems anymore.

Just banded with EXTREME nausea
It is probably what they used to put you to sleep. When it works out of your body, it will get better. Calling your doctor for medication was a smart move. Try drinking some warm broth or tea. Sip on it slowly. Ice chips help too.

Rate of lbs loss- losing in spurts?
I figure that as long as I am losing, I'm happy. If I only lose one pound a week, at the end of a year, I'm 52 pounds lighter than last year. Of course, I am losing a little more than that but I'm happy with it. One of these days, I will need to start exercising.
