  1. Just looked at your pics... you are already so pretty. This surgery will change your life! I am very happy for you!

Make sure to get the Gas-X strips before your surgery date and have them on hand. That to me was the worse part..post op. The Trapped gas hurts really bad. It may or may not happen to you.. but just in case. And make sure if it happens to take like 3 or 4 strips at a time.. Read the directions, on the box.. many people only take one thinking it will help, and the directions clearly tell you to take more. Try and walk up and down the halls at home after word.. it really helps!

    Confused about meal plan

My doc told me the same as Reeneek! When you begin to eat reg. food, all of your protein should come from good solid nutrition. My doc also said no snacking, no sugar... 3 meals a day, try to eat lean soft proteins and greens.. stay away from starchy foods, and fruits..(fruits because of natural sugars) and eat one cup of food each meal. Also.. very important to take chewable multi Vitamins & calcium supplements. I am just starting out but this is the advice that I was given.. And to me it makes perfect sense..... I think once you get to your goal, you can eat pretty much eat what you want, in moderation.. and the key is only 1cup each meal. As long as you watch those portions & excercise.. You should do great. Take a look at 2flyguys, she is almost at her goal weight.. She eats whatever she wants, but her success comes from portion size and excercise!
  3. Mine is on the left beneath my rib-cage. Funny... I just assumed everyone's was! I can feel mine at the surface as well. It is the strangest feeling. I do not like it. When I lay on my side I always tuck my feather pillow underneath it, because I am afraid I will accidently dis-lodge it. LOL Although I feel this surgery is the best thing I have ever done... It is very strange knowing that there is something permantly implanted inside of you.
  4. I have only lost 15lbs, and I am already feeling all confident. LOL (as if.. right?) To me you are my inspiration! There is not a day that goes by that I dont think about your success! When I go walking, I walk further, faster, and longer each week, with hopes that I too, can acheive the same success! I hope to be as motivated and healthy minded as you one day! I think that you should do a make-over, buy yourself the best clothes, and rock that new body.. hottie! But DON'T CUT YOUR HAIR! LOL! PS: the 1cup bowls... best advice ever!
  5. Hey chica! Nov 10th is right around the corner. I just had my Surgery on 9/23.. so I am very new, but learning so much. Let me know if you need any advice. This is the best decision I have ever made! And this web site. AMAZING.. for learning.

  6. Regarding the bean with bacon soup! Beware! When they do the surgery they blow your stomach up with air.. causes trapped gas after surgery, and can be very painful! Beans will cause more gas. It happened to me. I am just saying.

    Diet Soda's

Dont do it! It is empty calories., and the carbonation is not good for your pouch. Could cause slippage. Be careful!
  8. Turkey burger patties. Jennie-O 93/7 fat. Fry your patty in a pan. Use Pam cooking spray on the pan first. These burgers are very soft. and boil the heck out of some veggies, green Beans.. cauliflower..broccoli..whatever you like! make it super soft. Melt some mozz cheese on the patty.. Good Protein--low calorie meal. PS: Isn't my dog the cutest!
  9. I am just like Happy to lose! No way. Bread/tortillas are out of the question at this point. I took a bite of my daughters burro on Sunday, and it went down, but very slowly. It is so wierd the way it feels. Stuck, dry, sideways. It is almost as if though your esophagus rejects it! Very strange. Not trying to preach, as i am the begining of my weight loss journey....but.... bread/tortillas=weight gain. Try and stay away from those types of foods. When you are able to eat real food.. stick to Proteins and green veggies. I love turkey burger patties with a slice of mozz/cheese, and broccoli.

    Can't eat or drink

Yes, just last week she went and had it filled again. She told me that she INSTANTLY felt better once the nurse took the Fluid out. I am not sure what it looked like cuz it wasn't me. But i will call her and ask.
  11. LOL! 40.. eghhhhh! I put a pic up in my album. Not exactly thrilled about it, but its me. Hopefully i will look cuter soon. LOL

    Can't eat or drink

This same thing happened to a friend of mine. She couldn't keep anything down at all. She ended up going to her surgeon, and it ended being mucus from her sinuses blocking the entrance to her pouch. They released all of the Fluid from the band, and she said she INSTANTLY felt better. You should definatly go see your doctor.
  13. Hi. Alot of your replys to some of the threads are very insightful. Thought we could could friends. :-)

    Is this normal???

25LBS is a very good start! Although, I am at the begining of my journey, and have lost 15lbs, I feel great about it! I think it is important that we excersise. Have you started walking? Also, think positive, and eat the right foods. Try and stay away from starchy foods.
  15. Ha! hooker bath. I like to call them a "whore bath!" Funny. I was able to shower 48 hrs later. You just have to be careful not to let the Water pound on your in Incision. Get in there and wash up.. you will feel much better.! If you have tape on the cuts, don't take them off just pat them dry, and let them fall off by themselves. Hope this helps!
  16. I went through the same thing. It feels like your having a heart attack at times, then that pain in the shoulder area. OOOOHHHH I feel your pain. But not to worry... It is from Gas! Go and get some Gas-X-Strips, and take like 3 or 4 of them. Many people only take one, and the directions tell you to take more. Make sure to take enough or it wont work! Also, get up and move around walk, walk, walk. I promise you this pain will go away in a few days. They blow your stomach up with air when they do this surgery and your intenstines go to "sleep" as my surgeon put it. It takes a few days for them to come back to life. I got a tennis ball and put it up against the wall, and stood up and rolled on it. You are okay to take aleve, or even gel tylenol. (call your surgeon of course first) But mine said it was fine. This gas was even more painful for me, than recovering from the surgery. Mine actually lasted for like 6 days. You are going to be okay I promise. Hang in there kiddo!
  17. I just became the first to follow your blog. Very nicely done. We share our surgery dates. Sounds like your doing great Greg! I wish you the best of luck on your journey. This band is the best thing I have ever done.

    One year later...

Great post! I am at the begining of my journey, and this web site has been a life saver for me. Becoming friends with people who can offer advice & words of encouragement means the world for me.
  19. I just wanted to tell you that I look at your photo journey everyday! You inspire me. Your words stick with me, and because of you I got off my ass, and started walking... TWICE a day. On my lunch, now...30 min, and right when I get home. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! This web site is Fantastic.. Thanks

  20. hey girl, just read your reply. I think you will be fine. Just be careful. If it stayed down and you dont feel bad, you are fine. I was banded on 9/23 very recently, and i could use some support. Lets be friends and help eachother through this crazy ass journey. We can give eachother support and ideas

  21. Not too sure how that would work? Weight watchers does a point system, which takes place of counting calories. People without the band eat more calories than we can. My doctor has me on a 1000 calorie diet. I eat 1cup of food 3times a day. With weight watchers if i remember right, you eat Snacks between meals and ALOT more food. It is a great program, just not sure how it goes with banding. Hope this helps
  22. AHHHH.. You put your pic up! I also noticed we are really close in age. I was born I am going to put some pics up this week.

  23. It is so strange to me that we all get different advice from our surgeons. I realize that everyone has a "case-by-case" diet that they will need to follow, but for me it was so different. A group of us had to go to a "Pre-Op-Lap-band®-201 class" which was the final "process" right before surgery. There where at least 25 people in that class. All of us where given a packet and we where told to follow the instructions in the packet. Basically it said..after surgery..liquids for 3wks..mushies for 1wk....then introduce reg food. 1cup only each meal. In the liquid phase i was able to eat Cream/soups..Cream of Potato, Cream of mushroom..Oatmeal..cream of wheat....Jello...sugar free pudding... It didn't seem that bad. I felt like i was eating half way decent food. I guess what I am trying to say is, you might want to check with your doc.. and ask if those things are okay? Hope this helps.
  24. Thank you for the help. I am down 10lbs now.. Wooo Hooo. I am going to try and put some pics on my album this weekend. I want to photograph my journey like you! Thanks Again!

    Grumbly!

I was banded on 9/23/09 and i have lost 10lbs so far. (I haven't figured out how to update my ticker.. working on it) LOL! I am not anywhere near my goal weight, but I have read some grreat advice from this site. The best advice I have recieved from a girl on this site.. is go to Walmart and by the 1cup bowls. Only eat 1cup per meal, measure everything you eat in those bowls. If it doesn't fit in that bowl then take some food out. Try eating protiens and green veggie's only. If you get hungry between meals snack on piece of string cheese, it takes the edge off. Walk for 45min at a semi-faced paced rate girlie! EVERY DAY. Dont get discourged the weight is coming off slower for you but its okay...You need to use the band as a tool, not an answer.. We can do this together!
