  1. The doc had hoped after the fill that it would get better. And it did for a few days, but it's back with a vengence!

hmm. I also had pretty painful gas that seemed to be in my pouch area. What I discovered was that I was inhailing just as I was drinking so i was swallowing air with the Water. Let me tell you this was a hard habit to break. I guess I was used to literally inhailing my food :tongue_smilie:. Once I retrained myself it got much better. Plus I find that just letting it out as soon as I feel like im getting gassy helps, not always socially appropriate but whatever :cool2:

  2. No. No psychiatrist, just my regular doctor. I plan to have a visit with him on Friday. Might need to up my meds, but was just wondering if anyone else may have experienced the same depressive feelings after surgery?

Hey there.. I work with a Dr. who had pretty major surgery last year and 2 weeks later he came back to work and spoke of how he became very depressed post surgery, which is not like him at all. He talked about it openly because he was concerned for himself. He said it was a reaction to the anesthia. It took him more than a month to feel back to his normal self. This is someone who has no history with depression.

I'm glad you're seeing the Dr. that perscribed your meds. Depression and anxiety are no joke. I hope you get this all sorted out.

  3. I love love love me some Greek Yogurt! I've never seen a Krogers you all may not have these stores where you live but I find Chobani 0% fat at Hanaford, Shaws and Market Basket here in New England from .99 - $1.20. Fage is good too but I perfer the Chobani. As far as it resembeling sour cream, I agree. It's a bit bitter like sour cream (which I don't mind) but when you get the flavored (blueberry, strawberry, pommegranet, honey) it doesn't taste too bitter.

  4. SOOO how did everyone do?!!

I'm ok, kinda sore today, not much gas pain..so far anyway hopefully if I haven't felt it yet I won't.

My surgery went very well. Got to the surgery center at 12:30, surgery at 2:30 and home by 7:30 (with an hour and a half drive). I'm still pretty groggy so forgive this message :w00t: I just wanted to check in and see how everyone else did.

I hope all is well with everyone!!!!!

  5. Hi! I was wondering did you have a hard time with Anthem? I have them too and will be visiting the surgeon next week on the 20th. Just wondering

    Maria

    Hi Maria,

My experience with Anthem was wonderful. Never did I think I would say such a thing about an insurance company but they were truely wonderful. It took my surgeons office quite a while to send the paperwork over to them but they finally got it on 12/23 and when I called on 12/28 (not realizing they had recieved it already) they said I had been approved on 12/24. So it took them 1 day to approve me. I have no co-morbids and had a starting BMI of 51... it is now 42. I dealt with Anthem out of Maine. I hope that helps!! Good luck next week you must be excited!!! ;)

  6. Sheila,

Thanks for the advise. I do have one question for you. What did you have to do in order to be discharged from SSC? Like drink so much Water or??? I'm anxious to go home that day but the RN at my pre op appointment said that because my surgery is the last one that day I should be prepared to stay... but that I wont necessaraly have to. Do you go to the Bariatric Center too? When did you get your first fill? I haven't met the RN over there yet just the nutritionists and social worker.

  7. Hi nhverve, Are you having surgery at the scarborough surgical center or Maine Medical Center? I had mine done at the SSC in September. Good luck with your surgery! Glad to hear your insurance problem is resolved.:smile2:

Hello styms5!!! Finally someone from my neck of the woods :D. I'm having my surgery FRIDAY at the surgery center by Dr. Cobean. Who was your surgeon? How have you done? I hope all is well.

  8. HELLO! I'm super excited for us!! It's coming up sooo fast!

I am using the pre-made ones. I didn't know which to choose so I bought Walmart brand in the plastic container and the Special K ones in the plastic container to see what i like better. My doc just said to keep it 225 cal or less. I noticed after I bought Walmart ones that those are 250 but the Special K is only 190 so I will just drink one of each per day. I wanted the pre-made because I think if I made my own I would end up going over the 225.

I was a slacker and was supposed to start on the 2nd but I started on the 4th (yesterday) I am actually surprised that I'm not real hungry. I'm suffering more of the "head hunger" than anything else.

    How are you feeling?

I also just bought a Wii Balance Board and several different fitness games. I should be receiving them by mail tomorrow. I'm excited to start a fitness routine as well. From what I've read, that is a HUGE part of your success.

The first couple of days were difficult. Expecially since I was a bit of a piggy over the holidays but I won't beat myself up about that because I lost 35 lbs since Sept and I'm sure I've lost since I started this pre op diet but I won't weigh myself until Friday.

I've been exercising a few times a week for a while now and I hope to increase that post surgery. I mostly do the Ellipticle and once a weekish I do weights. I've been thinking about getting a Wii, let me know how it is!

I am so anxious for this!!! What time is your surgery? I'm the last one of the day at 2pm and I'm having it done in Portland Maine.

  9. I'M VOTING FOR JAN BAND JOURNEYS (but I'll go with the majority! anyone want to post the question as a poll? I have no clue how to do that)

I'm off to the airport for San Jose, where I will be banded Jan 12. JAN BANDERS UNITE!! THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE WINNING LOSERS!!

    :smile2:

I too like Jan Band Journeys!! Good luck everyone! 10 more days for me!!

  10. Hello!!

We have the same surgery date! I started my pre op diet in the 1st so today is my 5th day of this. It sounds like we have pretty similar diets. I can have 3 Protein shakes a day, a lean cusine, unlimited raw veggies and unlimited Water (sugar free popsicles, Jello, broth and the like). I can only have 4oz of fat frree milk which is making the Protein Shakes kinda nasty because I'm making them with Water. Do you have a restriction on milk? How are you making your protien drinks, or are you buying the premade ones??

    Good luck!

    -Kate

  11. Hello!

I'm on day 4 of my pre op diet...surgery is scheduled for 1/15, so I have 11 days (OMGGG!) until surgery.

My surgeons diet consists of two options. The 1st is to have 3 Protein shakes a day, 1 med fruit, a Lean Cuisine (or other brand) under 300 calories and unlimited raw veggies, 1/2 cup cottage cheese. I can only have 4 oz of milk which is killing me because I can't stand the Protein Shakes with Water.

The 2nd option is the 3 Protein Shakes with 4oz lean meat, 1/2 cup cooked veggie, 1 medium fruit 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese. Unlimited Water, popcicles (suger free) & jello(s/f).

It's interesting how everyone has different per op diets. I'm very thankful for the unlimited raw veggies, it's nice to have something to crunch. I definitly feel for those on all liquid diets right now! Stay strong :rolleyes2:

  12. Hi I just need to vert a little. I met with my surgeon who seems wonderful on 11/25. At that point we scheduled a surgery date of 1/15. They then send the request over to my insurnace company. Well it's not 12/15 and my insuarnce company still hasn't recieved anything!! I've called the surgeons office and they receptionist told how shes very busy and will get to it by the end of the week, hopefully!! That was last week and my insurance STILL doesn't have anything!! How hard is it!!?? I'm just geting very anxious and I don't want to call again for fear that I will piss her off. UGH!!!!!!!!! Is anyone else out there having their surgery done in Portland, Maine? Have you run into anyything like this??

  13. Well, one month from tomorrow I will be banded. I am happy, nervous and excited. I really can't wait.

I don't have the support of my family. My mother says why are you doing this and you can do it on your own. Why sould you starve yourself. Thats why I weigh 366 and she is close to 400. You would think she would be more understanding,

My daughter is taking me to and from the hospital. She is really not interested. She's 18 and about 290.

When I started the process two and a half years ago (insurance problems) I told my best friend of 15 years she stopped talking to me. Only started talking to me 3 weeks ago. I am not going to tell her.

I am going to need the support of my LAP-BAND® family who do understand.

When I get to goal I'm gonna do everything.

Congratulations Joyce for making the decision to change and possible save your life despite the negative reactions from your friends and family! You must be a very strong woman!!! I bet your decision makes your mom and daughter take a look at their lives and perhaps it's not something they are ready to deal with. As far as your friend goes...she doesn't seem like a very good one :w00t:. I've been lucky with the reactions from family and the friends I've told, all have been supportive and encouraging. Although I discovered yesterday that my "best friend" told the ONLY person I didn't want to tell. But I'll deal with him later :tongue2:.

Hopefully your family will come around when they see how much success you're having, perhaps it couldhave a positive impact on their lives. A healthier mom and daughter should be something they encourage and I bet they will come along. Stay strong!!!

  14. Hi Noura!

I'm being banded Jan 15th! I'm sorry you feel you have no one to talk to about this. I hope you find that the folks here are supportive and encouraging. I feel like maybe I've been telling too many people...Oh well. I hope all goes well for you. Not meaning to be nosey but isn't your husband going to notice?

I find that it helps to talk/type about my fears so feel free here!!

    -Kate
