Hi Ladies - I am a lurker too - I come on everyday and read the posts. You are really helping - lots of good info and you all make me smile every day. Finally upload pic - it was taken about 1.5 yrs ago - so I am bigger than that but hate to have my picture taken. I wish I could have joined you today but we are celebrating my husband's B'day - I really would like to meet you in person - maybe next month. I have my Surgeon appt. with Dr. Park on Wednesday. I've been on the 1200 cal for 2 weeks - it is getting harder - i've been hungry all week. I'm hoping to be down 10 by the time a see her which would be for just 2 weeks which I think would be really good (I only started the 1200 cal 2 wks ago). Riley - I hope you have a great weekend. You are such an inspiration - a 10K! Wow. I hope to be able to do more walking once I get this weight down - have foot problem that gets worse when my weight go up. Let us know how it. Jes - I hope things are OK - green doesn't sound good. Sounds like maybe Dr. Park was your surgeon. I was excited about getting her as I've read good things about her. What do you think of her.

riley4183 (Note sure what your first name is sorry)Sorry to hear you are so hungry but from reading other posts it sounds like you have really also been working out so that could have something to do with it. You responded to me when I first joined in August that there was a support group in Santa Rosa. Is there a way we can email each other - not quite sure how it works on the site. I accepted you as a friend so don't know if that give us access to each other's emails. Anyway any info you have on anything in Sonoma or Marin county would help. I also plan to try to get to the group in Richmond but not sure I'll be able to do that more than once a month. Thanks for your help,

Pam Sorry to hear you are having a hard time. What you describe is something I fear about going through all this and then still wanting and being able to eat a lot. Why did they unrestrict you? Where you having trouble? I hope things get better for you. Pat Origenation 9/8/09 - 256lbs Surgeon Appt. 9/30/09

Jes Its good to hear your decision was between the band or nothing. Thats the way I am feeling right now. RNY just sounds too invasive and I really am concerned about the nutrition side of it. It is really helpful to read about your experience just being a few days after surgery. You sound like you are doing great and it is really encouraging to hear you aren't hungry. Do you think you are getting enough protein / nutrion or do you not worry about that in the first few weeks? I understand about doing this for health reasons. I don' thave the complicating factors yet, but several of my sisters and brother have and I lost a sister last year after multiple strokes, high blood pressure, etc. so it has really motivated me to do something to prevent what is surely going to happen if I don't get this weight off. Keep us posted on how things are going. Pat Origenation 9/8/09 - 256lbs Surgeon Appt. 9/30/09

Nicole Thanks for sharing your point of view. What is pbing? Also like your story at Black Angus. Could you eat anything else besides the fish/meat - did you eat veggies? potatoes? or was the fish/meat and dessert all you could eat? If you fall off the wagon and eat things that you know you shouldn't do you find it hard to get back on track. I really wanted this to be a tool to help keep me on track. I've lost this weight so many times over the year, but can't keep it off (and I gain back more after each diet). I am trying to be realistic about what to expect and not set up false hopes. I am really afraid if I start eating simple carbs/sugar after the band that I will keep craving them (like I do now) and will have a hard time stopping. Also - (sorry for all the questions), do you have a sense of how much weight the surgeon is going to expect me to drop (I meet with her in another week.) Some people say 10% and some it seems like it is much less. Thanks for your help. Pat Orientation 9/08/09 - 256 Surgeon Appt. 9/30/09

Heather, Hang in there - don't let the carbs get you! I know what you mean about getting sick of the same food, but I find the carbs are really dangerous for me. I just think I can't eat them - I really think I am a sugar/carb addict. Anyway hang in there and get back on the horse soon. Pat Orientation 9/8/09 – starting weight 256 Surgeon Appt. 9/30/09

:smile:Hi Everyone I am pretty new to this site; I joined a few weeks ago. Jes, I've been reading your posts and you sound like you are doing great just a few days from surgery. I am inspired. It is great to hear you are feeling well and walking a lot. I thought you might feel really wiped out and weak after - especially with not being able to eat much. I am interested to learn how you get enough protein when you are on liquids - the soup broth doesn't sound like it would have much protein. I am still nervous and haven't completely made up my mind. I just went to orientation a few weeks ago and started the 1200 Cal diet a week ago. (I had a really bad week at work after the orientation that included me needing to fire someone who was 68 and it just was really hard so I decided not to start until I had it behind me.) My husband went with me to orientation and I can tell he isn't sold on this. Also I was convinced I wanted lap band surgery because it is so much less invasive, but he thinks the RNY sounds better because it has been around longer and because it doesn't let you absorb all the cals/nutirents. It still freaks me out a bit. I'd be interested in hearing what all of you think. Why did you pick lap band over RNY? For those of you who have been post surgery for a while, do you really find you are not as hungry or does it just make you feel full faster? Sorry I just have a ton of questions as I try to figure out if this is right thing for me. Also I'm looking for Riley4183 - you posted a response to my first post and since we are both in Sonoma Co. you said there was a Kaiser support group that meets in Santa Rosa. Is there a way we can email each other so I can get the info. (I know there is a way to do this via this site but I can't figure it out. BTW - I'm an Information Technology manager so that is pretty funny LOL!!). _____________________________________________ Pat Orientation 9/8/09 - weight 256 Surgeon Appt. 9/30/09

Hi Ladies: I am a new member to the Lap Band forum and I am scheduled for my orientation at Kaiser Richmond on 9/8/09. I am not sure exactly how to use this site. I can't quite figure out how to start a post. (That's why I replied to this message.) I am excited and scared about the orientation. I've read a lot of the materials in the orientation document and on other web sites. It really helps reading everyone's experiences. Can you bring a family member with you to the orientation? Also do you get weighed at the orientation or do you have to do another appointment. I want to get started on the pre-surgery weight loss, but since I am very near the BMI cut off of 40 with no complications, I haven't started yet until I get them to officially record my weight. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Pat/Wantshealth
