RCarter,Please allow your body and your new stomach time to heal. You've had MAJOR surgery where they removed approx 75% of your stomach. There is a LONG incision line with staples on the inside that has to heal completely. It WILL NOT heal if you start adding foods too fast and get something stuck in the staple line. The doctor prescribed diet is necessary....not just a suggestion. While some people break all the rules and may not see complications, it's definitely not the recommended course of action. If you aren't feeling satisfied with your portions, please contact your surgeon or his nurse for advice...don't just start adding in solid foods because someone else did. Protein powders, liquids etc will help you feel fuller and more satisfied. GasX helps many people with the gas pains.
Most of all, allow your body the time it needs to heal and pamper this new "restriction tool" that has been formed out of your own stomach.
Advice is good here....but don't take the advice on any forum OVER the advice of your own doctor's orders without seriously understanding the risks!
You're gonna do great!!!!
Tracy
Great sound advice! Thanks for you response.

Amerigirl, Welcome. Similar story here with going with a lap band and then changing to sleeve once I really did my homework. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 19th with Dr. Aceves in Mexico. So our surgeries will be 2 days apart. I can't wait to hear how your journey goes.

Once I have my surgery and I get to my goal and remain there for about a year, I'll consider Plastic Surgery. Until then, I told my hubby that I'll just tuck my boobs in my pants when I jog. lol

Welcome!I am so jealous that you have surgery dates. I have to jump through some more hoops before I will be there. You all must be excited. I was hoping that I would get a date in January but it will probably be later than that.
I have read on this website about all of the life changes that are being made and I am excited for everyone, and me too. Hang in there and keep us posted.
Welcome to the site as well. Keep us posted on your progress as well.

VegasAngel,
Oh thanks! Weird thing is I've been dreaming every night and all these questions come to mind. ha

Thanks you two. Maybe I'm just assuming that I will have stitches. I don't have a clue. Hopefully someone who has used Dr. Aceves will post.
Thanks again.

I just thought of something and I couldn't find any information on this board or in any of the paperwork from my Doctors office.
I'm having surgery in Mexico with Dr. Aceves on January 19th. I was just wondering if they remove the stitches before you head home and if not, how to you get them removed?
Thanks:confused1:

Deb, that's a great question. I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr. Aceves Jan 19th and my husband will be flying down there with me as well. I'm worried about him being bored and stuck in the hospital for days also.
-
swanss, Congratulations on our surgery date. Mine will be January 19th. It does seem far out to me also, but in reality, it will be here before we know it.
Best Wishes, Can't wait to hear how it went for you.

Thanks for your replies. I've been researching this surgery for a while and have read so many posts. I had pretty much made up my mind that Dr. Aceves ranked way up on my list. In fact I have been in contact with his office several times and have been totally impressed with their professionalism. Looks like he will be the one and that I'll have surgery sometime the latter part of January.
I'm so excited and scared at the same time, which I know is a normal response.
Thanks so much for your information and for posting on this board so that us newbies can get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks Tiffykins! I'm actually getting excited about it now that I know where I stand and what my options are.

I'm going to be a self pay. I'm looking into Mexico.

Well, I found out that it is written in the policy that it is not covered. Looks like my insurance agent made a huge mistake. I'm so upset I barely slept last night. I did leave a message for my agent to call me and explained to her that the policy she sold us is not what she said it was and asked her how we can get it fixed. I'm not sure anything can be done at this point.
Can anyone tell me if they were able to get approval from UHC when WLS is excluded from the policy?
Seems like everything that could go wrong with this transaction has, but I'm still trying very had to keep a good attitude.
:tongue_smilie:

Thank you all for your kind words and advice. I am going to contact them and ask what is covered. I do think it would be torture just waiting it out until January as I'm already stressing about it now.
I really feel the sleeve is the best choice. I've spent many months researching and trying to decide what is best for me.
If they exclude the sleeve but cover other options, I'm not sure what I'll do. I do know that I do not want the band. I orginally started out with intentions of doing the band, but have definitely decided I will not go that route.
Again, thanks for all your suggestions and I'll let you know what happens.
*keeping my fingers crossed*

I'm new to this site but have been a member of several other WL boards.
I have an apt on January 6th with my surgeon. We just got a new insurance policy at my employers that went into effect today. Prior to picking this new insurance company, I requested that my agent make sure they cover WLS. She informed me months ago that they did so we went ahead and selected them. I even started seeing my Family doctor to establish the six months consults prior to applying for the surgery. Dec 23rd will be sixth visit.
My insurance agent informed me that she called the new insurance company today to find out what kinds of WLS they cover since she knew I wanted the sleeve and the customer agent told her they don't cover WLS unless a specific rider is written into the policy. She informed him that riders are not done in state of Colorado.
I'm so confused now. I don't know if I should call the insurance company to inquire or just let the doctors office do it when I go in January. I don't want to sabotage my chances in any way.
I think I'm just stressing because I want this so bad and I'm afraid I'll get turned down or they will refuse to cover it.
Any suggestions?
:001_tongue:

Well, look at the bright side ladies. You can tuck them in your pants when running so they don't flap around. lol'ing
