    Who eats Bread?

I just had my first fill yesterday and I haven't tried bread yet but I am and was told I could eat bread. I like the others eat thin crust pizza and I have found this new sandwich bread called sandwich thins by orowheat. I toast them and then put whatever sandwich filler inside. I have yet to mess with untoasted bread. I am just nervous about the untoasted bread. Also toasting the bread makes me chew more which of course is the whole idea of the band.

    Tell me again.....

I had about 110 lbs to lose and I had the lap band. I personally think it is the way to go. The way I looked at it I would only have gotten the RNY is if I was 150 lbs over weight. And the main reason for that is the weight probably causing more issues and you'll want it to come off quicker. I would get the lap band. Since July 13th I have lost 27% of my excess weight with the lap band.(without a fill...I got my first one yesterday!) But like many people on here will tell you it is what you put into it. I walked as soon as they told me. I did more exercise when I was told I could. I count my calories constantly...it is easy if you sit at a desk and use one of the computer programs. I input info throughout the day. I am happy I didn't go for RNY since the lap band is reversible. That was also a very big part of my decision. I have adjust very well to the whole change.
  3. I also use thedailyplate.com and was very pleased to see how much protein I eat. I keep track everyday. I work at a computer so I can log on and put the food in as soon as I eat it.

    1 size down

By the way I only do elliptical and walking because I haven't gotten complete clearance from my doc. But at this point I probably can I just want to see him first and make sure everything is as it should be.(I see him next week) Being that you had your surgery some time ago you could also lift weights or sit ups in front of the tv!

    1 size down

I exercise 4-5 days a week. Start slowly and you'll find that you do enjoy it. Especially when the inches start to fly off but they won't if you don't do your part. I walk to the gym and do the elliptical for 30 minutes then my treat is the sauna or steam room. And do not eat the calories you burn. Don't think it is a free ride to eat an extra 300 or 400 calories. I eat ice cream but only when I save my calories.(It is carb free, low cal, and basically sugar free.) Exercise is your part. The way I look at the band is that there are 3 parts. 1. The band, 2. diet, 3. exercise that means 2/3's of the work is on us. The band can only do so much. So get out and move you will find that it goes by very fast and you may even enjoy it! And if you don't still do it this is your new life!

    1 size down

I have lost 30 lbs and haven't gone down in size at all. But everything is very loose I just can't quite get into a smaller size yet. I can not complain though it is 30 lbs. That is enough for me...at this point. I wouldn't care if I never dropped another size as long as I lost weight!
  7. I actually asked my doctor about this before I got banded and he said it could be possible but had never heard of it.
  8. That is so tragic but hopefully they caught in time and he will beat it. God bless him and his family. I can't imagine having to get and give that news. I don't think I could ever be a doctor for that reason. That day has to be horrible for everyone concerned.
  9. I am not going to say eventually I won't feel like you do but I haven't yet. I have no fills so maybe that plays into it. How much protein are you getting a day? I usually get at least 100 grams a day on average sometimes more. I also eat between 1200-1500 calories a day. When I started I was only 2 lbs less at 250 lbs. so our calorie intake should be about the same. If you are only getting 100 calories in a day it is possible your body is in starvation mode. And I would suggest going back to shakes if that worked for you. I still have at least a shake a day mainly to get my protein in. It will all work out don't stress and get more calories than just 1000 a day.
  10. Ok so I have been having constipation. I have tried to let it pass. I took some laxative pills yesterday they didn't do the job. So I bought Phillips liquid it was the most disgusting thing I ever tasted. I am currently waiting for that to work. (I do realize taking one day after the other is probably not smart! Remember I am desperate!) I wanted to know if anyone had other ways to deal with it. Maybe natural ways that we can take with our bands. I have tried to up my Fiber intake but of course don't want to do that too fast or I know that could back me up too. If anyone has ideas please let me know! Thanks!

    Slightly Embarrassed

I am already on a normal diet. I can eat anything...although I don't. I stick to about 1200-1500 calories a day. I have shakes once or twice a day, yogurt, cheese(soft, lowfat), chicken, and lean cuisines. My band isn't restricted yet so I have to just be sensible about what I eat and how much. And lots and lots of water.

    is it posible?

A lot of arm and especially leg exercises use your abs in some form you just don't realize it. You can run instead of walk or use the eliptical. There really isn't much that doesn't involve your core. If you belong to a gym or someone you know belongs to a gym ask a trainer what kind of exercises don't involve your core.

    banded 8/11..still so weak?

I slept the first week or so almost non-stop. That is part of the reason I lost 10lbs in that week. Just take it easy this was the first time I was put under too. I went with what my body felt it needed. I rolled with it.
  14. Shay7997....I was thinking the same thing because if you don't know how chloronated(sp?) then you could get infected or if it is too much chlorine then it can severely dry the skin out. I personally stay out of the pool and ocean until the wounds are completely healed. Just to be save.

    Online calorie tracker??

I use Thedailyplate.com I like it. I have been told that it is one of the best and easiest to use.
  16. And even better with those viactivs target has a generic which is much cheaper! I love to save!

    Travel Afterward

I only had a 30 minute drive home and I would say that I was in pain because my mom drives an SUV so it isn't smooth could feel every bump. but i think i could have gone farther if i didn't feel all the bumps. bring a pillow to put between yourself and the seatbelt. And depending on what drugs you get maybe they will put you to sleep on the way home!
  18. I am not sure that with our diets we need to be worried about that. I pay attention by going on the daily plate.com. It totals everything out and I can figure out where I am at. I log my food in daily and the last 4-5 days I have had no more than 200 gms and as low as 97 gms(that's today as of now but I might have something else tonight!) So with our diet it is probably pretty hard to get super high in carbs. There is even a low carb yogurt called Carb Masters. I am not totally concerned about carbs but where I can cut them out I do!

    Loose skin after surgery

When I had my psych eval I was told to wear things like spanx. I think this was for a couple of reasons one it will give you a sleeker look. And according to her she said it would help the elasticity. I don't know if that is true but I won't be a guinea pig I am going to wear them regardless. If it helps great if not and it doesn't then I still didn't hurt myself any!
  20. I was wondering what everyone munches on when the go to the movie theater. I love going to the movies and I used to eat popcorn, soft pretzels, and candy. Popcorn is totally off my list according to the doc. And I had my surgery on July 27th and I am already on normal food. Hopefully someone has some creative ideas cause I don't have any!
  21. I got banded on the 27th of july. The doctor put the band on but didn't fill it he won't for at least a month. Anyhow my problem is I wonder how big around the band is without any restriction? My biggest fear is that I am eatting too much. I don't have anything coming back up and I don't feel stuffed. So I am somewhat scared. Did the food go through really easy for the rest of you in the beginning? Now I am counting my calories and watching what I eat and eatting the things on my doc's list. Did everyone else in the beginning do the one tablespoon of food?(even when you can eat more) I am nervous I am doing this wrong and I am going to screw this up! I am doing things like I am supposed to except for only eatting like 3 tablespoons at a time. I need help!

How often do you weigh in?

I weigh in every two weeks and measure myself and put it all on a spreadsheet. I know sounds a little much but I do this so when I don't lose as much as I expected I can look at the inches and still see the loss. As exercise goes up the more muscle you'll gain and it well make you more toned and you will lose inches. I'm crazy I know!
  23. The nutrionist told me I could take Benefiber because I specifically asked this question. When I have lost weight on my own it has always been in part with me taking benefiber. (I hate that every Doc has their own thing it can get very confusing. I just stop listening and go with what mine has told. Otherwise I would be crazier than I already am!!!)

    Work, how soon?

I took 2 weeks to adjust to my new life and it is nice to have the time off. I needed a break and I haven't taken any significant time off for over a year. Take the time if you have it if not take at least 3 to 4 days.
  25. I know of doctors who prescribe diet pills to also prescribe lexapro to help and those who took both lost more weight.
