Telling people, Judgements, and Accountability with the Band
Humming Bird replied to tarajim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've told everyone. All have been very supportive. It works for me. I think people in general are much more negatively judgemental of those who are morbidly obese and are doing nothing about it. Isn't it great that men and women are so different? This world wouldn't be as great if we were the same. -
What's with all the sneezing?
Humming Bird replied to voodoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have this problem too. It must be a nerve thing. If I even take one bite past my full I have a sneeze attack. It seems like sneezing from hay fever. It seems like that is part of my "slime" process. -
I agree. My acid reflux was cured during lapband surgery because they did find a hiatal hernia and did the repair. took care of the reflux problem whoo hoo!

The Card...Do you have one?
Humming Bird replied to Yvette1026's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you can get one from the lapband site www.lapband.com The card is really nice ... like a credit card and has a picture of the band on it but, the print at the bottom on the back of the card is so tiny you can hardly see it. I also got one of my sergeon's cards where they rubber stamp the request on the back of the card. I have never really used either of the cards. There is nothing on the kids menu that I would want to eat. If I go out I usually order soup or chili. -
Is gum chewing okay?
Humming Bird replied to ocreina41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc told me of surgical removal of a pill that had been swallowed whole. But gum is broken down by protein and other foods. You know the trick of breaking down gum with peanut butter when it is stuck in a childs hair ............... by all means don't swallow the gum, but taking pills seems to be much more of a danger. -
you might want to write the letter and hand carry it to the Doc. You know how sometimes you forget important points during conversations with a doc.?

Good BMI Chart
Humming Bird replied to PrincipalsOffice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what ever happened to the charts that used terms like big boned or small boned? You know, when you measure your wrist. I really think I am small boned and may need to have a goal at the lower end of the normal weight range. Though I can't even imagine keeping it off at this stage ................ maybe I will feel different 1-2 years from now. -

JULY BANDSTERS!!!!!!! Where are you? UPDATE THREAD :)
Humming Bird replied to barbie1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow sunshine, that is great weightloss! what size is your band? I only have 5.3cc in my 10cc band and am very tight. There are very few solids I can eat. If they put in more right now I don't think I could even get water through. I guess that just shows how different it works for everyone. -
What do you look like in your dreams?
Humming Bird replied to HiMow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LMFAO ............ I know what you mean about forgetting what you were going to say. That pic kinda throws you off track. I usually just see myself somewhere in the middle in my dreams, but for a long time, I had the same dream over and over and over... I was riding in the back seat of a small car on a winding mountain road, much like the roads I drive every day. You know, the tiny back seats that no adult can really fit in well. I would start feeling very claustrophobic. I would start saying, "stop the car. I have to get out. Stop the car! Pull over! let me out! " I would wake up sweating and feeling so claustrophobic. It was hard to go back to sleep. I am happy to say that dream has not returned since being banded. I really do think I was having that dream because I was feeling so obese. -
Is gum chewing okay?
Humming Bird replied to ocreina41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chew sugar free extra gum all the time. No problems. Always sugar free .................... no tooth decay -
yea, I hear ya. It's a real shame the DJ thinks that is the way to talk while on air. I think one of the best things we can do is talk with our kids and grandkids when they are around when something like this comes up. We all need to teach those we can from a very early age that this sort of thinking and talking is not ok.

so what are the chances...
Humming Bird replied to MaybeBanding26's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
oops .... make that 3 times ........... I had a little episode this morning. I ate something too solid when my band had that morning tightness. I should have known better. -
On the wall at the office where I work, there is a hand written note in our Dr.'s hand writing. It says: People will not remember what you say and likely will not remember what you do, but they will remember how you make them feel. I work for a wise man. We try our best to not make people feel bad by treating adults like children. re: what you say .... like all the instructions you give ...

For those who are losing hair
Humming Bird replied to happy2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think some people are more prone to hairloss. I have very fine, thin, straight hair. My hair started thinning a lot at about 3 1/2 months post op. I am almost 6 months post op now and not sure if the thinning is slowing or not. I know I do not have regrowth yet. I have been taking biotin and trying to keep my protein up for many months. It doesn't seem to help, so I have kicked it in high gear and started trying everything else I can think of. I use nioxin shampoo and conditioner, got some liquid silica from a heathfood/vitamin place that is for hair/skin/nails, started taking nioxin vitamins, got the equate brand/ Rogain, take multi-vits. ................ I don't know if any of it has helped. Maybe it has. Maybe the hairloss would be worse if I was not doing some of it. Who knows? I am glad to hear that it does get better at some point. I work with people, up close and personal, every day. Thank goodness It isn't noticable to other people, just me and my hair dresser. -
No restriction whatsoever!
Humming Bird replied to SwanGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
welcome to "Banster Hell". Try not to over eat during this time. Stick with "diet food" and know that it will not last long after you start getting fills. You need healing time for your band to last longterm. -
so what are the chances...
Humming Bird replied to MaybeBanding26's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded in July. I have thrown up twice. Both times it was after I was at my sweet spot and I ate greasy food. The first was 5 french fries. Both times I just threw up the little bit I had eaten and there was not much heaving involved like you get with the flu or something. I did not feel bad after I threw up. It sure was a lesson about what I can not eat. -
If you stay or if you switch, I think you need to write a letter and include everything just like you did in this post. Make sure you don't say anything mean, just state the facts. That office needs to at least check themselves. They need to take a look at how they treat people. If nothing else, at least you will be helping the patients that come after you. I too work in healthcare and with many patients.

hey Stephanie, With the tight band are you having trouble getting in all the water they say we should drink? I know I am, but I'm not so sure I would even if my band wasn't tight. When I eat food my pouch is full for a long time. I drink 30 mins after I eat to quench my thirst, but it just seems like through the day I just have no room for the required ounces of water. On the days I work there is just no time for all that drinking. I am not in the position to have food or drink much except on my lunch break. I can't get it all in after work because I eat dinner and have a full pouch. Plus I don't want to get up several times in the night to go to the bathroom. I know that when I tried different diet centers over the years I could never drink all that water, so I'm not sure it has all that much to do with my tight band. Maybe it does make it a little worse.

will the insurance require proof that you have gone to the Dr. for these conditions over a period of time?

Good BMI Chart
Humming Bird replied to PrincipalsOffice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks...... Earlier today I was just thinking about looking it up to see if I'm still obese. yep, still obese. No longer Morbidly obese! On my way to being overweight! woo hoo ! -
Atkins has a couple, but I can only really stand to eat one kind. The others I have tried are too heavy/solid and taste bed to me. The one I eat sometimes is the Atkins Day Break Peanut Butter Fudge Crisp Bar. 10g protein, 1g sugar, 2 net carbs.
-
wow, that's too bad. I thought most insurance required a BMI of over 40 and only the comorbidities if you had a BMI between 35-40. Just one idea .... have you thought about self pay? My surgery was just under $10,000 (all included) Minium payments started out at $100 per month. I paid larger amounts, so now my minium monthly payments are much less.

I do not have acid reflux problems with the tight band either. My acid reflux problems were fixed with a hiatial hernia repair during my band surgery. Wooo Hooo!
