    Set Point Theory

I guess there might be something to this. Betsy, the set point diet that you were talking about. I wonder if we do this and not know it. When you tend to hit a plateau you can get discouraged and maybe don't diet quite as well and then in a few weeks you are off dieting again. Makes some sense to me. It would give you that break that you were talking about. Maybe our bodies have learned this. Jachut, I wonder if this has happend to others(stopping at certain weights along the way) I know I weighed 180 for a long time and then 150 a long time. I really think my set point might be 150 and this 180 is just a stopping point, (like you said) along the way. I sure hope so. Thanks for the information. Something to think about. We have some very insightful people on here.

Sandi, thanks for the post. It gives us all hope. Sounds like you had a wonderful time.

    Totally bummed out!!!

I am so sorry. I think the waiting is harder than the actual surgery. Pray for no snow in two weeks.

    my first attempt at food

Holy Mackerel, try something a little softer to eat for your first real food. Do you like egg salad or chicken salad? Those both go down prettty good for me.
  6. About going back to work in a week. Maybe the surgery part feels okay; but, you have to remember you are not eating much and you energy is just not there. No way are you going to be running after patients in a week. You are just not going to have the energy because you haven't been eating enough. I didn't feel that good after two weeks. I had headaches and felt very weak. It was from not getting enough food at first. Keep drinking and eat what you can. It does get better but not all people recover quickly.

    Set Point Theory

I am glad someone else thinks this could be true also. It is not acceptable where my set point seems to be but I think there is something to it. Thanks

    The Shrink passed me!

Congratulations!!! Now the waiting starts. I hope you get quick approval.
  9. I would definitely go to Dr. Simpson. I like him and his office staff. He responds to your calls or messages and it is not hard to get in for fills. He does charge a little more than some of the other doctors; but, I feel he is worth it. I know people said he is a band factory. My feeling on this is I know I wanted to get the band (no other WL surgery) so why not go some place where they specialize in it. If you didn't know what you wanted then maybe go other places to hear about different WLS; but if you know you want the band, you picked the right doctor. Also I think the insurance is a good idea. I did not self pay so it wasn't an option for me. Good luck!!!

    Help!

Have any of you with the pain had the hiatal hernia repair? Sometimes I think that is what is giving me the problem. I felt something in the front and wondered if that was the hernia repair and the doctor said no that was in the back.
  12. Change doctors. Don't give him even one more copay.
  13. pickles123

    Help!

I hope you figure it out also. I have that pain too. I have been taking Aleve (I know we are not suppose to; but, when it is bad it works) and a heating pad. Not as uncommom as we though, I guess. I go to the doctor on Monday will let you all know what I find out.
  14. Allie: I have been following your journey all along and you look wonderful. You sure have been through a lot but it looks great. Congratulations!!!!

    Totally devastated

You have done a great job. Some people just don't get it. I have a person who always says that I am fat. (We see them in the winter) She is hugh!!! So this year when I saw her she didn't say anything about my weight loss, she said WOW you have big feet. I wear a size 6 she wears a 10. WTH is with these people. Keep your chin up. Although I am ready to punch this person. You are doing a great job.

    Banded 2/15/10

I thought the hiatal surgery repair was worse than the lap band. It was really hard to take that deep breath. I also walk in the mornings when it is cold and that cold air makes it hurt. I am five months out now and I can say the last month has been a lot better. I do think it adds to the recovery time. Good luck on the recovery. It just took me a little longer. I had no pain from the lab band part of the surgery at all.

    New 60+ Thread

Thanks for the welcome Jerseygirl. I look at all the young people one here and of course you compare yourself to them. So 41 pounds does not sound so good. Those of you to be banded this week. Good luck!! you will do fine. Remember just keep walking and drinking. You might think you can't but do it any way. Have a great evening all!!!

    pysch sucks! down day......

The psych exam really does suck. In my opinion you need to tell them what they want to hear. Don't lay it all out there (I know others disagree) I do believe that people have issues; but, we can deal with a psychologist after our surgery to work them out. If you have an issue you know you are going to have to do it; but, at least it can be with a psychologist of your choice and still be losing weight at the same time. Just my opinion!!. It seems like if you go to the surgeon recommended psychologist they seem to pass you so that the surgeon can get his money. (Not always, not often)

    New 60+ Thread

Hi everyone: I have been on LBT since April, I think, but have never posted in this thread because it seemed so large and everyone knew every one. I see a lot of neebies and maybes on here right now so I thought it a good time to post. I have read here often and see so many with great success. I do believe that we (60 plus) have more issues than the younger bandsters. Most especially exercise. I just wanted to introduce myself. I had surgery Sept 22 and have lost 41 pounds so far. (of course not quick enough for me) I really want to reach 50 pounds by my 6 month anniversary which is March 22. I am really losing slow. I am greatful for any support or suggestions you can give me. I am happy for one pound a week. Keep up the good work and have a nice Sunday.

    Question please

I am about five months out and two weeks ago I was ready to give up.(I got tired of dieting, you know that phase) I ate a few things I shouldn't have. The band let me start over and not just give up and keep eating. I am not to restriction but the band still gives you enough of a push to keep going. I sure hope it continues because I still do that diet thing then give up. Now I might give up but in a few days get back going again. I hope this is of some help. I am still a work in progress and don't know what I am doing all the time.
  21. I had that up to my throat feeling; but I don't think I was really hungry. (I still get that 5 months out) I also slept in the recliner for a week and that was great. But no burps or diaarhea. By any chance did you have a hiatal hernia repaired? Keep walking and hang in there. When to get to mushies it made all the difference for me. Also drink, drink, drink. Good luck! I am sure you will do great. Each day gets better.
  22. pickles123

    Finally!!!

Congratulations. I am sure you will do a great job.

    September 2009 Band Date

Sorry for another post. I see that some of you tried to start another thread or did. I never saw it or found it. I sure am willing to go to a new thread that is not so long and more updated. Anyone interested in trying this again. A new thread with Sept bandsters updated or what ever you want to call it.

    September 2009 Band Date

Hi Sept bandsters. Between age, BMI, metabolism, boyfriends etc. a lot of us are getting out butts kicked. Some of you are doing great. What are you doing? I hope minimeme answers about what she is eating. I am suppose to eat only three meals a day; but, I am willing to try anything. Maybe we can set up a different thread with some suggestions for those not doing as well. There seems to be a lot of us. (September Bandster support) You all that are doing good could give us some suggestions. There is something about people having surgery done near the same time that ties you together. Come on you Sept bandsters that are doing wonderful take us under your wing and help us out. I am ready to try anything.
