  1. I slipped and I'm having it reparied tomorrow. It's been 27 months since orginal surgery. My insurance company is paying for the surgery tomorrow. My band was stiched to my stomach but sometimes things just happen. Wasn't my fault wasn't the bands fault.....
  2. I am wondering if it could be the sugar free items you are eating (to the 2nd person on post). They have sorbital and that can sometimes cause that problem if eaten in quanity thruout the day.
  3. Nazzy, if you want someone to comment on your weight loss...buy a new outfit that fits and you will get several comments. Alot of us when we lose weight continue to our old clothes which are now ill fitting. We should make it a practice to buy atleast one outfit each time we go down a size.
  4. Whoever considers any weight loss surgery should do their homework, research it out. If you come to the conclusion that it is in fact the best decision for you then go for it,. Other people's opinons don't matter and if they do then you aren't ready for the surgery. It is madness to be on diets all your life only to lose and regain over and over again and continue to do that and expect different results. The lap band broke that cycle for me, 2 years banded and 118 lbs lighter.
  5. I guess it is just me but I didn't worry about anyone else. And yes, I told everyone that I was having it done. It 2 years later and I am 118 lbs lighter. Get many compliments from people who knew me when I was heavier and 3 have had the sugery because they see what it has done for me with one more going for a semiar this Thursday.
  6. ok, I can sit in a booth and not overhang on the table. I don't have to worry if waiter takes me to a booth as there is a good 8 inches of space from my body to the table, I can cross my legs, I fit into an airplane seat with out an extension belt, I don't mind having my picture taken, I can find clothes to fit in regular stores, etc....and the very best is I won't be gaining the weight back!
  7. It's clear to me that people need to go to a Holy Spirit filled chruch where the Holy Spirit is welcomed and the word is taught not by a man but by the Holy Spirit thru annointed pastors, preachers, teachers, evangelists and the helps ministries.
  8. I'm a little over 2 years and have lost 115 lbs am aiming for 12 more lbs. I don't think the band will fail me and I sure as heck am not going to fail the band. One thing I do know is that you have to have a good bariatrics support team which I've got. I go once a week for a one on one and attended the monthly suport group meeting. I do know that not everyone has the support they need. If you are seriously thinking about having this surgery, go to a center that can give you the support like I have.
  9. I only had one fill under fluro, the rest were done in the surgeon's office done by feel. I've always had some restriction from each fill. There have been 2 times that the fill has reached the "sweet spot" and one of them is now. Believe me, you don't want to get too tight from a fill as you will be miserable. I don't like the term agressive fill because some people can't handle much and some people can handle more. A fill is an individual thing and your surgeon generally can tell how much you can tolerate by the swallow test (although the swallow test isn't always perfect). What I am trying to say is this, if it takes baby steps to get you to the sweet spot don't sweat it because you will get there. And if they hit the sweet spot right away that is great. Just don't rush things afterall you are in it for the long haul. By the way, I've been banded for 2 years and just a few pounds from goal, lost 113 lbs so far. My expierence with the band has been great. Hope your expierence will be great too.
  10. Your band hasn't slipped, If it did you wouldn't be able to keep anything down and would throwing up alot. You should see your surgeon for a fill, they do them between 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. You do not want to binge as you can strecth your pouch and this early in the game you don't want to do that or have your band slip. This early in the game though you most likely shouldn't be eating heavy foods as you have to give the band surgery site time to heal, that is why you should be on mushies right now. If you have a bariatrics team that you can easily call or go to regularly then you should do it. I know not everyone is as fortunate as me as I am 2 years out and see my coordinator every week for a one on one. The formula for the sucess of your band is this, band and you working with the band. Wishing you both a good journey.
  11. 18 I wish I could have done this earlier in my life but am glad I did it anyway, I am 56. Have been banded for 2 years and am pleased at everything. Are there any support groups close to you? If so, you should start going. You will get information from people already banded and that should increase your knowledge about what it is like to be banded that is assuming the band is what you are interested in. My personal expierence has been great from surgery thru now. Wishing you the best in what ever you choose to do.
  12. congrats. Hope everything goes well for you. I know you are excited, I was and have had my band for 2 years now.
  13. Don't share with everyone if it isn't your nature. You can do this. I've lost 109 lbs, well, 107 as I thought I lost 4 lbs this weekend but only ended up being 2 lbs. I am almost at my goal weight.
  14. Hi, I really don't get full blown hungry but my body tells me that I should probably think about eating within the hour. If I truly crave something which is from time to time then I have it. I have been wanting a butterfingers candy bar-waited a week before I got it and I ate it. I don't know why a butterfingers as my favorite always was a snickers. In the evening, I usually have a sugar free cream pop, Kroger's brand. I agree with the person about the protein, takes longer for me to get hungry if I have protein. Although I've been cautioned about peanut butter, I eat about a tablespoon with 2 to 4 crackers in the morning, 8 am, and that will last me up to 2 pm if I go that route. I just make sure that it kinda melts in my mouth.
  15. Hi, Words of wisdom, be sure to get the suppositories not the pill. If you are sick the phenergen pill doesn't do much good. If any of my group starts vomiting then we are to call the baratrics coordinator-she gave us her cell phone #. I've got a wonderful baratrics team. I've only had to call once in 2 years which was in Jan. due to a bug I caught.
  16. august bandsters, me too but will be 2 years ago on Aug 7th. Everything went well with me and I hope the same for you. I'm 11 lbs from my goal weight, lost 109 lbs (as of this morning).
  17. I never did drink them ever. I put the protein mix in pudding to mask the flavor. And even then I didn't like it but had to do something
  18. You should see your bariatrics team immediately and often. You shouldn't be going thru that but then again your bariatrics coordinator doesn't know you are going thru this. It's very important that you eat healthy proteins, vegetables, etc because this is the lifestyle you signed up for when you got your band. And you don't want to throw up as this can cause your band to slip. Please, please see your bariatrics team. I can eat most anything but only small amounts. It's going on 2 years and I am almost at my goal weight. As of this morning I am down 109 lbs with 11 lbs to go. I love my band and want you to love yours to and be sucessful. Good luck.
  19. I try to attend the monthly meetings as they are very informative and I like seeing the progress of other lapbanders in person. I am so fortunate that I go weekly for a one on one with my coordinator. I see from the forums that most don't have that type of support that I do. It holds me accountable and I'm the type of person who needs to be accountable to someone or I would most likely "fall of the wagon" I guess it is up to the individual. If these forums are enough for you and you are seeing the results you want then that is what works for you.
  20. If you can eat more than 1/4 to 3/4 cup of food then you need a fill. If you can't get down water then you are too tight. The band is a tool, it won't do it all by itself. You need to eat heathier foods not fast foods as fast food is loaded with fat, grease, salt, calories. That's not to say that every now and then you can't have a bite or two of something you really crave. If you chose to drink milkshakes all day long because they taste good and go down easily, you would be taking in a tremendous amount of calories, not get the proteins & vitiamins your body needs. Guess what, you didn't work with your band and would gain weight. If you have a support group then go to it. It will give you the info you need and the motivation if working with the band to lose weight is the goal you are after.
  21. good advice from the person who said hang around the doctors office for a few hours. I've learned to do that after having a fill, everything seemed ok, got in my car to go to work and pain started shooting out my shoulders like when something gets stuck. I didn't go back because I could live with it but I lived with it for a week.
  22. I've lost 105 lbs. I think the only difference with me versus someone younger is that I didn't and don't care how fast I lose as long as I lose. I haven't lost as fast as some people but on the other hand I've lost faster than some. I am almost at my goal weight and very happy that I had this done. I was banded in Aug. 2007.
  23. I'd be leary of a surgeon doing a fill during the initial surgery as there is swelling in that area after the surgery. My 1st fill was about 5 weeks after the surgery. I've had around 7 fills in almost 2 years. Everyone is different and it depends on many factors like how much weight has been lost, how much you can eat, etc. Stay in close contact with your coordinator, he/she can help you.
  24. cadence, You ought to come to the support group meeting this Tuesday at 6 pm. It's at the Lois Kratz center. We have people come that are thinking about being banded. You would be welcome.
  25. Mary Rose, I live in So. Indiana and banded in So. Indiana. Right across the river, in Louisville, there are many hosptials that band, the surgeons are great, even taught my surgeon lap band, but the support for afterwards sucks. I know several people who got banded in Louisville and their support is almost none other than a monthly group meeting. Sometimes these people look to me to ask and answer questions. The support I get (and others in my group) is unique compared to many other groups. My heart goes out to you.
