First post of many.... My Journey

*For people that read this allow me to explain that when I snapped and stopped work and gym I started something else again. Eating. That unfortunately didn't slow down and I put on 15kgs (33lbs) before I realised and then it kept climbing to where it is now 106kgs (233.2lbs). Sorry missed that tid bit of info in the blog!

First post of many.... My Journey

After reading some other users blogs, I thought I would post my own. I haven't been banded yet and have my first appointment with the surgeon 3rd August (which I can't wait for). However, I thought I would post how I'm feeling and about the little that has happened so far. Here goes... I have almost always been overweight. Even though my Mum tried really hard to get me to eat healthy and exercise. I would try hard for a bit and then burn out and the cycle would continue. After a breakup with my first serious boyfriend I weighed 90-95kgs (198-209lbs), I started going to weight watchers and lost around 25-30kgs (55-66lbs). When I reached the 75kg (165lb) mark I went a bit loopy and stopped eating much at all and exercising like a mad woman, I was having a tough time at work and troubles with hormones and I snapped. I had some time off work, time off exercise and started making myself better. I can't describe how weird it is to realise that I went from over-eating to not eating in such a short amount of time. My brain hadn't quite registered the loss and I still believed myself to be as fat as I was (maybe a couple of kgs less). What made me realise how much weight I had lost was trying on dresses for my mum's wedding. I was pulling size 16-18 dresses of the rack- I ended up purchasing a size 12 dress, which had to be TAKEN IN! That was an achievement  I first heard about the lapband a little over 12 months ago. After hearing about it, I organised to go to a information session the local specialist holds. The information session was fantastic, there was a man there that had been banded and lost a large amount of weight. I got an folder with lots of info and left the session thinking this is the right tool for me. However, when I discussed it with my friends and fiance I had half saying 'good for you' and the other half saying 'really?!' with their eyebrows turned up suspiciously. So, after some more thought, I decided to try gym and healthy eating again and if that didn't work, (which it didn't), I'd try and organise lapband. I have tried weight watchers, healthy diet and exercise, shake diets, meal replacement diets, no carb diets, fat free diets, whatever I thought might work. Well I'm tired of what MIGHT work and ready for what I believe WILL work. I'm ready to do this for ME. I want to be as healthy as I can and live a life as long as I can. I want to have confidence in myself again. I want to feel sexy again. I want to be able to go into a store and buy items off the shelf again. I want to go to the beach again. I want to be able to exercise without feeling like the grim reaper is standing beside me grinning. I want to be able to wear lingerie (my brain stops me at the moment). I want to be able to go places and not feel like harpoons are going to be targeted at me anymore. I NEED TO DO THIS FOR ME For those that read this, hopefully you're not asleep drooling on the keyboard.
  3. In Australia I think 4-6 months is the standard wait also. Your husband is from Australia? I'm guessing somewhere in Victoria considering he barracks for Geelong :)

I hope you get to your goal by that time, but don't stress too much if you don't. I want my loss to be steady and slow so I don't leave behind folds of skin... haha, gross I know, sorry! Have you been to Australia before?

Can't Wait To Get My Band!!

I know what you mean about not being able to wait until you get your band. I have been considering the surgery for about 1.5-2 years and finally decided to work towards being banded last month. It's like I've got ants in my pants, so excited! I'm hoping to be banded by December this year. I have to wait for the insurance, (I haven't been with them for 12 months yet).
  6. Yes, Aussie I am! Your husband and my mum would get along great, she's an avid geelong fan. I'm a geelong fan too, but not as nuts about it as mum. Not long till your surgery. I have my first consult on August 3rd. I can't wait! Good luck with the surgery :)

  7. Thanks guys! This is what I want to get back down to, I know I can do it. This was 4 and a bit years ago... it took me just under a year to lose the weight with weight watchers. I kept it off for about 8 months, then I had a few big stresses in my life at the time and gained back what I lost plus a bit more... but i'm determined to get back to this!!!
  8. Hi Kamie,

Just thought I would drop a little message considering you added me. Thanks :)

Are you still trying to decide if you would like lapband?

I've decided I want it (and need it), I just have to meet with the specialist now and hope he decides the same thing.

I have my first appointment August 3rd. I'm super excited.

Good luck with making your decision, if you haven't already made it.

    Seeya.

P.S. Not to be rude but the yellow writing is hard to read :)

  9. Apart from fashionable clothes in general- being able to purchase bras and singlets with spaghetti straps. I absolutely hate having to try and hide those huge ugly straps. Beach wear- and in fact feeling good about going to the beach. I love swimming! Pants that aren't elasticised-YEAH! Being able to wear sexy things for my fiance and not feel like a whale. Not feeling like a whale in general would be nice actually. Not having people look at you with that look- you know what i'm talking about people. People who haven't had to try and lose a substantial amount of weight just don't understand dammit. Feeling like i'm living the most healthy and long life i can. :mad2:
  10. Hi Amber,

Have you got your surgery date? I've got my first appointment with the lapband specialist in two weeks. I'm 24 also, I'm in Australia though. I just thought i'd introduce myself incase you wanted someone to chat to. :)
