    Doing The Surgery Alone?

Thanks, guys! I'm in NE San Antonio, near Alamo Heights. Luckily my family has been able to structure it so that they can help, but I'm glad to know there are more people here with the sleeve! We'll have to start a sleeve group or something! I'm having mine done at BAMC, and Dr Fenton is performing mine. My concern at this point is the recovery time. I work for a very busy animal rescue here in town, and while it's technically a desk job, there's tons of up and down, handling animals, etc.
  2. What did your full liquid pre-op diet consist of? My surgeon just sort of glossed over this topic since I'm a band to sleeve revision. However, I wasn't required to do a pre-op diet with my band. So, just so I can get some ideas and know what to shop for, what was on YOUR pre-op liquid diet?

    Doing The Surgery Alone?

My husband is the one that's military. I'm not anymore. Unfortunately, he's not stationed nearby, and I'm living here while he's deployed since I just love this city so much. HOWEVER!! We were able to work it out so that my parents will be able to take care of me! I'm an adult and still need my parents, lol! I'm okay with that, though.

    Doing The Surgery Alone?

Yeah, a taxi is definitely do-able, but I was thinking more of my control issues! Haha! I hate relying on people and prefer to do things myself. But, safety first. I'm trying to think back to my band surgery, and I could have driven, probably, but I didn't try for weeks, since my husband was on leave.

Or, the dog at least. The cat is no maintenance, and will be good for comfort after surgery.

    Doing The Surgery Alone?

Lol, my management here are jerks! I'm likely going to take them to this fabulous sitter I have.

    Doing The Surgery Alone?

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm in Texas. I may post something on here to look for some assistance. I hadn't thought of that.

    Doing The Surgery Alone?

That make me a little more hopeful. After the band, I relied heavily on my husband, because I was scared to injure something. Now, I won't have a choice. I'm mainly worried about not being able to care for my animals, or having some sort of complication that would require me to go back to the hospital.
  9. This app looks interesting! I'm downloading it now.

    Realize Band Website

Their site sucks. I tried it initially after surgery, but sparkpeople.com works so much better for me.
  11. I've never been stuck, but I was only banded in early November 2009. I'm just now getting a glimmer of restriction, so I do get some discomfort if I eat too fast, though.
  12. I was told 700-900, but my body just wasn't havin that. I usually fluctuate between 1000-1400 a day. When I only got 700-900 a day, I was tired, cranky, listless, unmotivated. I couldn't make myself do ANY exercise. I was just miserable. A slightly higher number works MUCH better for me.

    How to mince ginger??

Or you could just grate it on your microplane, or if you want larger pieces, on the large side of a box grater.
  14. I stayed overnight, even though it wasn't planned. A piece of my liver "broke" apparently, and I had some bleeding issues, so they were worried. I checked in at 530 Monday morning, and left around 8pm Tuesday night. I'm glad, because I needed the adjustable bed. My gas pain was so bad, I thought I was having a heart attack a couple times.

  16. The gas pains were rough for the first few days, but other than that, I'm GREAT. I've got my first fill scheduled on the 4th, so I"m excited.

    How'd yours go?

  17. Where are you having it done? Mine was at William Beaumont.

I'm doing pretty good, all things considered. The gas pains were AWFUL, though. My DH and I were walking the floor I was on at the hospital, and I literally thought I was having a heart attack. Now, I only have the gas pains when I yawn, mostly. My DR is pretty lenient, and I get to start mushies on Tuesday!

    Mushies Stage Recipes

I disagree with this. I've had hot and sour soup for dinner the past couple days with nothing. It varies person to person. I have no problem with spice, band-related, at least.
  19. Okay, making sure I wasn't the only one! Hopefully I'll have to fast for 12 hours pre-op, rather than 24 hours, because I have a breakfast planned with friends Sunday morning, and I go in Monday morning!
  20. Did anyone NOT have to do a pre-surgery diet? I had my first pre-op appointment today, with another one scheduled for Thursday, and I've been told nothing about a liquid diet or anything beforehand. My surgery is scheduled for Monday. Am I the oddball here?
  21. I'm getting banded in November, too. I got my date, then they called and moved it up a day to November 2nd. I"m nervous!
  22. I got my surgery date! November 3rd! I'm so excited.:bored:

    Got my date!

No, they scheduled that for the week before my surgery date. What can I expect for that?
