  1. I am SOO very sorry to hear about your mom. I had a full slip and they were able to remove the band without any damage to the stomach. That was one painful experience so I feel for your mom. The horizontal cut sounds similar to the stomach stapling surgery in the 70's. I don't know of any long term effects but I do know she will definitely lose weight. I hope she goes on to make a full recovery and I am so happy you didn't lose her. THAT BAND SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE MARKET! What a disgrace!!
  2. HI Everyone... I am almost 6 months out and really am doing great. I have had a textbook experience up to day. The past few days I have been having heartburn after eating and I don't know if I am eating too fast but I am going to be mindful... In the meantime, I would like a recommendation for a PPI to take. I just took a Zantac and that did nothing. (I don't think it's a PPI but it's all I had in the house). Thanks in advance Nina
  3. Thanks Tiff. I am going to pick up some Prilosec tomorrow and start that 14 day treatment and see how it goes after that. I also am going to be mindful of my eating, I think I have been eating too fast. Thanks again..you're the best

    Now I did it

Sorry to hear about that nightmare in the hospital and SHAME on the tech for not 'wanting' to come in!! CREEPS. Let us know what happens. I really hope this works out for you.

    4oz. is hard

Each day you should be able to sip a little more and it will make it easier. Dehydration feels HORRIBLE, so get your fluids in. The gas and burping stays around for a while but will go away. All this inconvenience is worth it!! I am not even 6 months out and 16 pounds from goal. The pain and inconvenience is sure worth it. Take care and keep your eyes on the prize.

    Now I did it

OMG!! I hope you are okay and they can retrieve it without surgery! Hopefully you are at a bariatric hosptial. Keep us updated
  7. Getting closer to my goal!! Only 16 pounds left!! WHOO HOO

  8. All that trapped air must move...only way it to work. I carefully did some bends to move the air. But be careful with your inscisions. Keep moving....it's the only thing that helps. The worst is over and it will get better every day.
  9. I am not sure what you mean by "waiting" to eat but I am just about 6 months out and I eat like a normal person, just way less. I drink up until maybe 5 minutes before I eat. I don't drink with meals and wait 30 minutes after. If I am thirsty after a meal, I chew a piece of gum and it helps to pass the time and moisten my mouth. I can barely eat a half a cup of food, and I am happy about that but if I want to have a dessert, I have a littel bite of my husbands. I have had ice cream on occasion and I am living my life and not eating compulsively anymore. Don't get in the mindset of what you 'can't" have or "can't" do. Get in a positive mindset. It may take a bit but you will get used to your new stomach and be happy that you don't need to stuff your face with food. I feel more confident at restaurants. I order food that can be reheated and get 2 nights of left overs from one meal ordered out!! Good Luck

    The staples

I read that scar tissue usually grows over the staples and they wind up not being visible anymore. I hope mine do last forever
  12. The wait and all the appointmetns are SO WORTH IT!! I am 5 1/2 months out and 16 pounds from goal!! The inconvenience is the beginning is a small price to pay. Hope you have a great experience too.

    Protein Bars anyone???

I use the south beach bars and keep them around for emergency situations. I also keep a couple Cliff bars in my desk in the event I forget or don't have time to eat breakfast.

    Am I eating too much?

You need to detox yourself. You have to cut the carbs and sugar out so the cravings will go away. Do strict Protein to cleanse your system. If you crave sweets, pop in a piece of sugarless gum. It helps A LOT!!! Good Luck

    Food Funeral

That is the exact kind of thinking that put all of us into the place to needing surgery. My opinion is that a food funeral is self-destructive behavior. You are haivng this surgery to show love for yourself and your health. Skip the food funeral and do something positive, like write in a journal or join a gym. You'll thank yourself in the long run.
  16. When my family orders a pizza, I order or make my own but instead of using pizza dough, I use a low carb wheat wrap. The restaurant I order it from sells wrap so they make it for me. Better to make it yourself. The website www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com had TONS of pizza recipes. She calls is Pizza Porn!!!

How Easy Is It to Stretch The Sleeve?

Personally, I don't think the size bougie matters. My dr used a size 40 and I can NOT eat more than a 1/2 cup of food. I know that fish is very light and not dense but my question is just because you CAN eat a 7 to 8 piece of fish....doesn't mean you SHOULD! Measure your food, eat the correct portion and see how long you stay full for. If you are staying full, that you know that you can control your portion.

    HCG Diet

Tiff summed it up..... MOST people gain it all back and then some. I could lose weight fast, and easy. Problem is that I couldn't keep it off!!!!

    MY BEFORE AND AFTER

Looking great! The blue dress looks so pretty on you!
  20. 77 pounds off!! 18 pounds to goal. It almost seems surreal at this point. I still feel like the 'old me" After I get to my goal, I'm going to see if I could lose a little more.... :)

  21. I drink fluids right up until about 5 minutes before I eat. I do not drink during or for 30 mins after. Did that once and vomited. Won't do it again. Plus you don't want to wash the food. As soon as I'm done eating, I pop in a piece of gum. It really helps with thirst. Then the 30 mins flies by. I am almost 6 months out and it is not a big deal anymore. You will get used to it!!
  22. I had a full slip. My stomach went right through the band, causing it to clamp off the bottom of the stomach. Please be careful. I couldn't even swallow my saliva, had incredible pain. I had emergency surgery to have it removed. Here I am a year and a half later, and I am so happy I converted to the sleeve. I live like a normal person, just eat less. The sleeve is everything that the band wasn't. It amazing how great I feel. food does not get stuck and I have no vomiting at all. Good Luck on your decision.
  23. Hang in the girlie! It will get easier and you will find your groove!!!

    NO COFFEEE POST OP

After I went without caffiene the month after surgery, I never went back. I now drink decaf and enjoy the heck out of it. All this is temporary. Before you know it you will find your 'groove' and everything will fall into place.
  25. I usually have one of the following: 3/4 cup of Kashi with almond and flax or yogurt or Protein bar or Protein shake. (all with a cup of decaf) My NUT says to eat high Fiber for breakfast and high protein for lunch and dinner. I have found this works for me and don't follow a crazy no carb rule for breakfast. The most type of carb I eat is a pita shell. Hope this helps:) Nina
