    PRE-OP PLICATION

VSG Man vs Food...I have a plication and am very happy with the results. I feel it is a very underused option in the WLS field. If you do some research it is far more popular in europe and in some areas is used far more commonly than VSG. Like all other surgeries it is a tool and your success depends on adhering to advice given to you. I can't eat a big meal but I can nibble a lot over the course of the day if I so chose! Good luck with your surgery.

My friend and I booked our gastric plication surgery with Dr Lopez in Mexico for July 17th. Been thinking about it for years.

Advice re Gastric Balloon vs. LapBand Surgery

Just another thought for you. I too did not want a large non reversible surgery. Rejected the idea of a lap band due to the things terms issues I read about. Having lost weight and regained before thought a balloon would not be a permanent "fix" for me so I investigated and then had a gastric plication. Surgery was two yrs ago and I have been very happy with the results. I had my surgery through Bariatric Pal and it cost me no more than a balloon procedure would in the US.

I should have also said I am sorry you went through this and had your hopes and dreams dashed this way. Hope you soon feel better.

Did anyone explain to you exactly went wrong?
  7. I think most US Drs aren't keen on us going elsewhere in the world for surgery. That said I believe I had far better care in Mexico than I would have in the US. If it is the only way you can get it done research your Dr well or put yourself in Bariatric Pal Mexico's hands. They will take good care of you.
  8. I did not use Dr Illan as he was not on the scene when I had my surgery with Bariatric Pal Mexico. However I will say they take the best care of you possible. Far better than in the US. I am sure they have only chosen the best Dr and hospital to represent them. My husband was not keen on the idea either but now he says he should have encouraged me to do this years ago.
  9. DelilahK I made the decision for the plication partly because of the reasons you mentioned.`I am the caregiver for a handicapped spouse and did not have a way to manage a long recovery, especially for something that others would not feel necessary and thus not step up to help out. I was also self pay. In fact I went to Mexico. I am very happy with my choice. Of course I am in my 60's and and am happy being a little bit heavier than I would have at a younger age. I lost 60lbs and have maintained that loss for over a year with no problem. I watch what I eat of course and exercise. I see no reason why, had I wished to that I could not have lost another 20lbs putting me at an 80lb loss which is what you were mentioning. If you have not yet made a decision look at some of the English WLS sites. Plication is far more popular there than it is here and many seem to find it a good alternative to VSG. Good luck whatever you choose.
  10. Fantastic progress and great choice for your future lives.
  11. If you are am American Citizen you can apply for a passport at many post offices.
  12. How are you doing now Connie? I hope it is going well. I also got sharp stabbing pain when I drank for the first few months. Gradually got better and is now gone completely. I am 65 had surgery at 64. Wish I had done it sooner but husband and Dr were against it. Finally took control of my life and am glad I did.

    Aniexty Scared and Fears

For most people being nervous is part of taking this seriously. This is a life changing event and will alter our lives and eating habits forever. I am sure you are well prepared and before you know it the surgery will be done and over and your new life will have begun. Lots of us here will be rooting for you. Try and stay calm, know you are doing what needs to be done for your health and let us know how it goes. Good luck

    Five years ago today...

An incredible awe inspiring post. Thank yo for sharing your five years of such positive weight loss experience.
  15. I did not do as well as the previous posters. I lost a total of 10 pounds in three weeks. But the difference was noticeable and I felt not only better physically but mentally as well.
  16. Nice to see people from VA posting. If any of you going to Roanoke Memorial are from the Montgomery or Giles Co area I'd love to meet new friends. I have only heard good things about the bariatric surgeons there though I went to Mexico as my insurance did not cover anything to do with WL. Good luck to those of you with upcoming dates.
  17. Bariatric Pal is the greatest. I remember my surgery as much as a vacation/change of scene as an "operation". Can't go wrong with them.
  18. Hopefully you never feel like you didn't have the surgery since you will eat less and your body will feel very differently for the rest of your life. That said in time you won't be think of yourself as a patient forever. You will get used to a new way of life. I was on the boards every day for a least a year after surgery. The support I found there was integral to my adjusting to this new way of life. Now I only come here every 2-3 days and am back spending more time doing other things in life . Some of those things I could no longer do before the surgery. So it stays in the back of your mind. Hoping you soon feel exactly the way you want to and love your new body.
  19. My husband, two daughter and the gal who went to Mexico with me (she also had surgery). I have a DIL would never approve and never let me forget the mistake I made whenever I have any health issues for the rest of my life so I decided not to tell my son or anyone else who might blabber to them. My daughters have been my greatest supporters and I knew would fully approve. I am sure everyone else who has noticed my weight loss are just waiting for me to gain it back LOL.

    Conflicted about having surgery :(

Talk to Henry at Bariatric Pal they take incredible care of you and have great Drs.
  21. You may not be bringing money into your relationship for six weeks but you will be bringing in something that may be even more valuable. You will be working towards a longer healthier life to spend with him and your children. You are blessed if he is willing and able to do this for you.
  22. I am sorry you are not finding any support from family and friends. It took me years to decide to have surgery without my husband's support. I am so very glad that I finally did it and amazingly when I told him I was doing it even if he didn't approve he changed his mind and did support me. I think I sound like I am a paid by Bariatirc Pal sometimes when I post but they were so incredibly attentive and caring. There is no way I could have had anything like as much personal care in this country. Do what you need to for your long term health . It is your body and your life. Hopefully along the way someone will learn enough about the need for surgery and the quality of care in Mexico to support you. I wish you all good luck and do talk to Henry again.
  23. You can set up surgery in Mexico almost immediately. I went with Bariatric Pal and got a date that just gave myfriend and I (we went together) long enough to do 2 weeks presurgical diet. Dr talked to us the same day we inquired and we had the pre-surgical questionnaire, nutrition consult etc all done in a few days. Many of us would tell yuo that you would in no way regret going Mexico, saving a lot of money and getting the most wonderful care. For us it was better than anything we could have received locally if we had had ins that would have paid.
