  1. Someone had posted on another threat that they are having plication on Oct 2nd with Dr Ortiz. It was in the plication forum. Good luck with your surgery.
  2. How nice. Wish there was something like that where I live. Hope you get a good response.

    PLICTATION TIJUANA ANYONE?

Good luck Diana. Nice to hear your sister did so well with this procedure. I had it done 8 weeks ago after watching a friend and her sister over a 5 yrs period after plication. They lost significant amounts and seem to do fine maintaining.

    Too many stalls, sigh!

Just ended a 3 week stall here. You are right Inner Surfer Girl about the complexities of the human body. So we all hang in there, eat right, drink enough Fluid and exercise and have faith one day that scale will move down again. While we wait we look for NSV's. Not making any weight loss related goals here just trying to believe if I work the program it will happen..in it's own time.
  5. Sorry you had this experience. As if doing this isn't hard enough already. That Dr should be reported to the medical board. He had no right to talk to you that way and then talk to your husband unless you gave him permission. Aren't psych visits supposed to be confidential? Go after what you want, your body, your life. I wish you luck finding a group that treats you with more respect.

Does WLS Help a Spouse Lose Weight?

My husband doesn't have much to lose but has said in the last week or so that he'd like to a lose a few pounds. Has never mentioned it before.Shouldn't be hard with me stealing a bite or two here and there instead of having my own portion. I have also switched the dish he gets his desert in to a smaller one. Some days he doesn't even get desert as I forget to make something not being as hungry myself.

    PLICTATION TIJUANA ANYONE?

I agree with Diana you will do fine traveling. My girlfriend and I had to cross the country and change planes along the way. We traveled overnight and then had a ride home from airport and it was no big deal. You will be amazed how well you feel. You won't be hungry and will just have to think about taking in liquid constantly. There is no drinking in big amounts at one time soon after this surgery. My friend can glug drink down now but even 8 weeks later I can't drink a lost fast.

    PLICTATION TIJUANA ANYONE?

My girlfriend and I had gastric plication with Dr Lopez in mid-July. We knew the weight loss would not be as fast as with some other surgeries but we were and are very happy with our choice of plication. Week by week the scale goes down. It is wonderful not to feel as if you are starving all the time to lose weight, to enjoy and feel full with smaller servings. We were up and walking right after surgery. I was outside walking before they even released me from the clinic and all over Tijuana in two days.Recovery was not hard or painful. Plication does not seem to be very popular in the US/Mexico but there are wonderful reviews for it long term in europe. No need for fills or unfills. Good luck with your choice and let us know how you do.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

Good luck to all of you having surgery in Oct. I remember those weeks leading up to surgery. Had mine 8 weeks ago but it already seems like a long time. You will all do great.

    A bad day today.

That is a rough diet when you are doing it for long.I did the same diet but only for 3 weeks. I found the protein shakes seemed to stay with me better if I made them with lots of ice and sipped them slowly. Can you have salad as well as the veggies or would a salad be your veggies? Good luck.

    What Are Your Hobbies?

I both knit and sew and sell my creations giving the money to Charity. However I have been doing that for a long time and it is time to get back into things I used to do such as artwork or find some new interests. I garden but no longer have the passion for it I once did and bending to weed etc is harder with age. I walk and ride a bike but I am not sure they would qualify as hobbies. Lots of good ideas here to get a person thinking about things other than cooking or eating.
  13. It is far easier to understand your predicament now you have explained about your child care needs. As one who was alone with 4 children I can completely understand that. I am happy for you that you have managed to put other plans in place for your children so that you can become a healthier and happier parent. Perhaps that will also make it clear to your family what this means to you. I hope they make it easier for you to take time off work guilt free, after all last years time off was not by choice. Keep heading in the "losing" direction!
  14. Bariatric Pal does a lot of checking on their Drs perhaps if you contact them they can refer you to a qualified physician for this surgery.
  15. So sorry that even with family members that have been successful with WLS that your family is not behind you. As others have said you can't make them support you. It sounds as if you have made efforts to gain to their support and even rescheduled your surgery. Now you can only take care of yourself and hope as they see the results, a healthier and happier you that they will support you. I waited five extra years for my surgery as my husband was not for the idea. Five years of carrying around the extra weight. Eventually one day the idea came to the forefront of my mind yet again and I decided I was going to do it with or without his support. Imagine my surprise when I stood up for myself and he gave me his blessing and has been a great support for me. He has been there every step of the way. What changed his mind? Who knows I am not sure he does. Look after you first and think of them second. Good luck.

    The sum of all fears

So sorry you have had this devastating news. With all you have been through and how ready you are if you can manage it in any way I'd say go to Mexico. My friend and I both used BariatircPal and could not have been any more satisfied and their prices are fantastic compared to US prices. The pro bono idea India 928 mentioned is good one also if you could get special consideration from the anesthetist and hospital. Good luck in finding an answer to this dilemma.

Middle of the Night Worries/2nd Thoughts

So sorry this has happened at your surgery time and now you are facing two hospitalizations and recoveries. As you start to recover it will be easier to think about the WLS. Right now you are sick, worried and probably very tired. A different illness should not change your plans for WLS and your long term health goals. Remaining overweight will greatly increase your chance of other illnesses and more hospital visits down the road. When you go in for you WLS you will be healthy and ready to snap back. Right now you are battling illness. As others have mentioned you have worked hard towards the WLS and possibly were just exhausted from it and that contributed to your current issues. Good luck with your recovery and I hope this has not derailed your WLS for long. Stick with your name and ChooseHope. I am sure lots of us here are rooting for you.
  18. Yesterday is over, dust yourself off and look forward, keep your eyes on the prize. Humans do mess up sometimes. I have read a lot of your posts and I am convinced you can do it gal.

    Three weeks until surgery

Perhaps you could start the liver shrink diet (LSD) early which would help you lose weight as well as shrink the liver to make the surgery easier. Some Drs want you to lose 10% of you excess weight and others just want you to lose something. Bit close now to even think about that 10% #. Just do your best but don't starve as you want to go into surgery in the best shape you can. If you look at other posts you will see there are many different LSD's. I did Protein shakes and one small meal at night till the last two or three days and from then on it was all liquid. Come here often and post and read. There is so much help here to make it easier to learn all about your new lifestyle, about each week both before and after surgery along with the weeks and months afterwards. Plus there is lots of support for maintenance. Congratulations on your choice to live a healthier life and to join us here.
  23. Well said folks. Unlike many other things that cause problems in life we can't just walk away from food and give it up. We have to eat to live but it should not be the only thing in our life. All those years of dieting being the focus of every day and not getting us anywhere permanently. After surgery you will be able to settle into a healthy routine and enjoy your life so much more. Don't knock yourself as others have said this is a disease and you are now going to treat it. Good luck.
  24. Good luck with both your Drs visit and with your husband getting on board and helping you with your health issues.
  25. I am finding this thread very interesting and thought provoking. Thank you for starting it Folly and thank you to all that are adding your insights. I think sadness would have been my first reaction to that couple. Firstly sad for the man who is probably finding bathing a difficult chore at this point. Then sad that they are losing their lives and their health to what is in that cart. I only had my surgery 7 weeks ago and am at the begining of my new life and weight loss. I am so very grateful that even as a self pay that I was able to have this chance at new life. So many overweight people will never have that option. Wondering what my mental response to severely overweight people will be in time.
