  1. I just passed my 1-year bandiversary, and overall I'm very happy with how the year has gone. Though I didn't lose weight as fast as I thought I would, I did end up reversing 10 years of weight gain in one year. As of this morning, I was down 68 lbs. My goal for next year is to lose 38 lbs, which would take me to my college graduation weight. I am angry at myself that I didn't establish an exercise regimen until October, which forced me to depend upon the band adjustments to jump start my weight loss. I am now at 9cc's on a 10 cc band, so my options there are pretty limited. Once I started going to the gym, the weight loss did speed up a little. I am starting off this year by going on a liquid diet for a week, followed by puree for 2 weeks to mimic the post surgery period. Hopefully this will shock my system and I'll drop some quick weight. I think the thing that has really helped is having a wife that has supported me and whipped me into shape when I was down or discouraged. She also supported me by going on a diet of her own. She lost 50 lbs without surgery, and her body fat percentage dropped even more than mine. We are loving the effects that has had on various areas of our lives.

So how is/did the liquid to pure go for you? Im up to 7.5 cm on a 10 cm band and have lost 48 pounds.

  3. I see my doctor Thursday. I am hoping he will set up a fill date. My surgery was dec 14th. Ive lost 20 pounds as of today. I havent started exercising since the weather has been horrible here. I plan on walking. I get hungry and my stomach growls to loud and continually my students can hear it!

  4. Hang in there Danigirl.

My surgery hurt a lot more than I thought it would too and Ive had a bladder surgery and hystorectomy.

    • In one week I have lost 10 lbs. Is that average? The first week yes, it should slow down as you add more solid foods. I average 1 1/2 to 2 pounds a week and eat about 1,000 calories.

    • Which are the best Vitamins to take and what dosage? I take Bariatric Lap band Vitamins from the nutritionist and nothing else.

    • Any lotions or tricks to prevent saggy skin? exercise or go to work for a plastic surgeon.

    • When will I feel normal again? I am 4 weeks out and get hungry everty 4 hours but eat anything I want. I just eat my protein first and I eat slowly.

    • Any good blogs or website that could be helpful now that I have the band? this one is prettty good I think. I do realize my success I have a realize band

    • Any other good tip you think I should know? Remember why you did this. It wasnt to eat anything you wanted. it was to help you stick to a diet. You can eat milkshakes all day and gain weight. so choose your foods wisely and plan them. Great food site is "eggface"

  5. Please help, I had my post-op on Tues and I only lost 7lbs!!!!! Why??? I have been walking at least 30-45mins/day, I have been eating 3small meals plus 3snacks a day, and not going over my fats/day and trying to get all Protein in a day, as well as watching the sugar in what I eat. I don't understand whats going on, I don't get my fill til Feb 1st, and worried that I'm either gonna stay at this 7lbs lost or gain it back, I'm getting real discouraged. I did this surgery because it was suppose to help lose faster then on my own, and now I'm regretting it.

Hey, How long have you been banded? My doctor said the band is not FAST the average is 1-2 pounds a week, but that it is consistant. Are you eating your protein first? If you eat all your protein, you dont have room for the fatter foods like carbs. If you got a Realize band do you go on that web site and enter your foods in your food diary?

  6. I dont when I get my first fill. I will have my postop Jan 21st. It will be 5 weeks out then. My appt was changed due to weather and snow etc. My doctor uses a floriscope or something so he shouldnt miss. It will probably not be until Feb. thow. I hope for some restriction, cause its just plain will power keeping me from over eating. I feel like I could eat a whopper and fries and shake all at one time! : )

  7. Hi and I hope all my fellow December Bandsters are doing well. I am hoping that some of you can give me some advice or let me know your experiences. I have been feeling nauseous since I woke up this morning (nope I'm not pregnant...lol) and it is getting worse as the evening goes on. I have been suffering with gas and diarrhea since before my surgery, but I'm drinking a lot, so I don't think I'm dehydrated. Is this something that is considered normal or should I be worried? I have my first post op appointment on the 6th. I posted this in both the December Bandsters and here to make sure I got it in the right place. Are we just using this one now?

Hey Kim, It sounds more like youre getting sick since you say youve followed the plan and are eating. Do you have a fever? I havent been nauseous at all.

  8. IDK maybe i have stretched it out. But every time i get a fill shouldn't it go back down???

The fill restricts how fast food can go from your pouch into your regular stomach. If you tighten the band and eat a lot the pouch will expand to hold the food until it can all push through the small opening made by the band. A fill does not restrict the amount you eat if you eat past feeling full. The pouch will just keep expanding. Thats why you are able to eat what and how much you want and have gained the weight back. Of course it doesnt stretch with just one meal, it takes time.

  9. :smile2: Hummm sounds like youve stretched your pouch to accomodate the food you are eating. I read on this forum that if you return to the full liquid for 5 days straight the pouch will shrink back quite a bit. Only eat 1/2 to 2/3 cup of liquids at a meal while doing this. Then start back eating what you are suppose to eat according to your doctor. Anyone with lapband WILL gain weight if they dont eat right. If I sip on milk shakes all day, I will gain and not even stretch out my pouch. So eat what you should, Protein first and dont exceed 1 cup a meal when you are off liquids.

  10. I need to start on some sort of Protein Powder and have been doing research all morning, but there really aren't any good comparisons that I can find. I need something that is not absolutely vile, lol, but possibly even more important than taste to me is texture. I cannot swallow things that have a grainy or lumpy texture - I'll absolutely gag.

Ideally, I would like to find something very smooth, along the consistency of maybe slimfast or boost. Anyone have any suggestions?

I dont like the Unjury chicken. But they do mix well and are smooth. Not too sweet and I have to stop the kids from drinking my chocolate ones when I mix them up. You can add the chocolate 1/2 scoop and 1/2 scoop vanilla to coffee and mix well for a latte. They also sell sample sizes. You can order on line or maybe your nutritionist has some samples. My nutritionist gave me a sample of each. (I asked)

  11. 10 weeks post op and no hair loss. Basically I take a Viactiv multi-Vitamin and 1 Viactiv Calcium chew per day. I have 1/2-1 cup of skim milk per day. I make sure to get at least 65-75 grams of Protein per day. My calories range from 900-1200 per day. My weight loss averages 2-3 pounds per week.

Don't know what is helping me keep my hair, but has to one of these.

Thanks for all the information. I really appreciate it. Especially the amt of calories and Protein daily.

  12. My sister (who is not banded) has been losing tons of hair lately. I told her she should see a doctor and get some blood work done as you can actually see her scalp now because her hair has gotten really thin. She went to the doc and he did blood work and said she had a Vitamin D deficiency. She did some research on the internet and, sure enough, it will cause Hair loss.

Anyway, I was experiencing some hair loss (4 mos post op) and my hair was thinning. I would have a lot a hair in wrapped up in my fingers every time I ran my hands through my hair. And I was getting worried. But i get loads of Protein, so I'm having a hard time believing that's my problem. So i started taking 1000u Vitamin D3 (per my sister's recommendation) and within a week my hair loss has slowed down to almost no hair loss. i can comb my hair now and only have 2 or 3 strands in my comb. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try it too and see if it works for you. Let me know.

Did you get the vit D from a health food store?
