Tonight my boyfriend Joe and I are going out to eat at the Olive Garden tonight. I really am not struggling too much with "last supper" urges, but there are a few places I want to eat out at before I begin the liquid diet in about 10 days. I am really looking forward to when I can't overdo it, but it will also be difficult to give up eating comfortably. However, I am more than willing to make that change. I have already given up a lot in order to really prepare myself, especially with all of the chocolate around b/c of Halloween. :nervous

  3. Did they give you any idea as to how the port flipped???
  4. After about a week and a half of preparing for the liquid diet, I have successfully lost about three lbs. consistently for the past few days. One of the reasons why I really hate the scale is that it seems to change its mind throughout the day! That is why I think it is important to wait until the lbs lost is consistent before claiming actual weight loss!

  6. Congrats on the surgery! Glad to hear that you are feeling so well! Good luck to you!
  7. Hey Swillborn, For awhile I didnt know how much I weighed either, until recently, with all of the doctors appointments getting ready for the surgery...I am also a size 20/22. I dont think it is that strange. Good luck to you!
  8. I am required to be on a liquid diet for 10 days. There are many ideas and recipes that you can find here on the board. There should be a nutrionist working with you at the hospital, especially if you have special health concerns while on the liquid diet!
  9. I know...it would be wonderful. My dad truly is able to separate himself from emotion and meaning to food, he was able to lose about 60 lbs. just from stopping eating the "good stuff."
  10. Ask away! In a way I am a "newbie" too b/c I havent been banded yet, but my surgery day is Nov. 20th. However, I have been on the board for awhile and have acquired quite a bit of info, also from the surgeon, and support groups. good luck on your journey!
  11. Actually, I live on my own now with my boyfriend so I don't eat really any meals with my family, unless we go out together. Eating is a very big deal in my family (obviously) leading to my overweight issues. My dad really is the only one who understands b/c he doesnt assign such a meaning to food.
  12. Hey Diana! I am being banded on November 20th as well! Welcome!

What a week so far...I am exhausted...emotionally mostly. I am going out with my boyfriend tonight and I am really looking forward to it! He recently started going to HVAC school and I dont see him too often now.

  15. I was hoping that this would be inspring to them, but it seems that it has been anything but. A lot of times I feel like I just "can't win" with my family. :faint: Well, we all have our family disfuction I suppose..right now I just need a lot of support and encouragement and I guess I"ll have to seek it otherwhere. Like here! Thank you! :girl_hug:
  16. I totally understand everything everyone is saying and thank you! Yeah, I think that they are skeptical that it is a risk (since it is a surgery placing the foreign body in your stomach) and they think that i will just gain all of the weight back. I cant help but think that my sister secretly wants me to fail so I can still be "large" with her. We have other issues besides this, obviously, which make me distrust her and I guess those issues are truly surfacing during this difficult time.
  17. Unfortunately, that is pretty much what I think will be the best way of handling it, such as so many other issues in my family...avoidance...:phanvan It makes me really sad though to have to take that approach, b/c this is such a big change in my life and I really do want them to be a part of it, but it just seems that they dont understand! I truly, truly appreciate all of your support!

Friday I had my final visit with my surgeon, Dr. M, before the actual surgery, which is soon approaching! Today I go for my "final" pre-op bloods, EKG, bloodtest and chest X-ray. I also got a flu shot today for the first time, and it really was not that bad! It is going to be a hectic afternoon, but I truly know it will all be worth it in the end! I hope that everyone out there is happy and feeling successful in one way or another! :high5: :whoo:

  20. Good luck at your meeting BetsyJane! Let us know how it goes! I bet that you will be even more inspired! :typing:
  21. I definitely agree that it would be unethical for a surgeon to "push" a surgery. I feel that my surgeon is very excited about the surgery and how it does help people. He truly seemed genuine and honest, and he was very personable. It still hurts that my sister was so aggressive in trying to "push" onto me that the surgeon is making everything sound better than it is...he did talk to me about complications, risks and the like, but he also talked with me about how life changing the tool can be.
  22. No, I do not plan on getting the patch...luckily I have only been smoking for about six months, and not regularily...I am planning on sheer will power...we'll see how that goes, and chewing sugar free gum...My boyfriend and I are quitting together...
  23. Well, I know that it will be difficult. Peronsonally, I HAVE to lose 10 lbs. by surgery date or the surgery will be postponed, so the pressure is on and I just have to keep on telling myself that I CAN do it! :nervous
  24. I have been trying to get into that same mindset as well. That is why I have begun to replace my lunches with Target's version of slimfat...right now...well, I am rather hungry...but i know it will all be worth it!
  25. When do you plan on being banded? Where are you now in your journey?
