Popcorn anyone?
I, for one, think that popcorn and the movies go together. I am about 3 weeks post op and have been to the movies 3 times so far and have eaten popcorn just fine. I dont eat the kernels, just incase there is a problem with them. I am mindfull of the carbs, but havent had any problems. Maybe after a fill or two.

Scheduled massage
I hit 19lbs down today and scheduled a massage for next week. I figure I will be down 20lbs by then. I have decided to get a massage every 20lbs down as a reward. What rewards are you granting yourselves for progress?

Exercise after Band
I find it pleasant to see how much exercise everyone is doing. I can only do .8 of a mile walk or 20 minutes on the stationary bike. I seem to be the lowest exerciser here. I know I have been sedentary for years and have a high bmi, but I want to be able to last longer.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
A fellow oldie here. I have been banded for 3 weeks not and am making good progress. This week I moved to mushies and havent lost any weight this week. Hopefully next week it will start back again. My doc doesnt believe anyone needs more than 3 fills and wont schedule the first one until after my 5 week checkup. Not sure how long after that you can get your 1st fill, or if it will be a long wait. I am trying to eat just a cup of food, but it is tough. I am walking .8 of a miles several times/week and hope to increase that as soon as my body agrees.

Beginning week 4, loss stalled after starting mushies/solids
I was really happy with my loss preop and the first 2 weeks of postop. Then we hit week 3. Mushie/solids are ok now and I have been eating food on the ok list. I havent gained any weight, but havent lost any weight this week either. My son was here for a visit and I also didnt exercise. Now that he is gone I am thinking of going back to liquid for another week or so, and go back to walking a mile daily. I know introduction of food is definately to blame, but I am hoping someone will tell me it is ok and I will start losing again. I hate to be stressed this early in the process.

Help, How do you get the crushed pills down YUK
I am two weeks post op. The first week I crushed my drugs 9and I take alot of them) and hated the taste. Once I got into mushie food I tried taking the pills whole and had no problem. I asked the doctor how much Fluid I had in my band and he said only enough to prime the band. I am sure when I have more fluid in the band I will have to crush, but for now, it is working just fine.

Those of you that take anti depressants...
I am bipolar and lean towards depression so I can relate. I would call your doctor, as he is the final decision maker besides yourself. Sometimes I "think" I am having a tough day and all of a sudden am just certain that it is going to excelerate one way or the other. Usually I sleep on it a night or two and by then I know if I really am having symptoms or just stressing. You know your body better than anyone, so trust your decision.

Will I have to lose weight before surgery?
It all depends on the doctor. Some require a certain amount of weight loss. Others are comfortable that you will lose weight on the preop diet. I was 340 when I started this journey (I had already done my 6 mo supervised diet the previous year and gained weight). I only lost 2 lbs on my preop diet even though I didnt cheat and my doc didnt say anything to me.

Low carb spagetti sauce?
Has anyone found which spagetti sauce is the lowest in carbs? Since I am finally on mushies I want to make the layer lasagna without Pasta tonight.

Everyone wants to visit since I am off for a month
When I first asked my doc is I could have a month off I invisioned taking twice daily walks and perfecting my diet. Fast forwad to today. My 27yr old son is flying in for a visit Sun through Thur. I am incredibly happy to see him but not sure how my plan will work. My sister wants to take the following week for a vacation. I could skip this except I havent spent time with her in 3 yrs. Some of this may be easy to follow the diet, but I am afraid it is too soon to become proficient.

Clear liquid diet...SUCKS!!!
I am just finishing up my 2 week post of liquid diet(I also had 2 weeks of Clear liquids before surgery). My Dr didnt allow yogurt or sf pudding. The closest to normal I got (besides the clear soup) was sf Jello and sf popsicles. My next phase is 4 weeks of pureed/mushes. I have to admit I am thinking of staying on liquids another week because I have made slow but steady progress while on liquids only. The first few days are the worst, but after that you accept the limitations and make due.

dizzy and Shaky pre op diet
ON day 3 I woke up dizzy and called in sick. I had a Protein shake and some more sleep and went to work. After that day it got better. sugar free Jello was my salvation as it filled up the nawing hunger I had. Be sure to drink enough protein, that makes a big difference.

Psycologist or Dietician?
I am only a week or so post op but I am already having feelings of self sabatoge and strong desires to eat the wrong things. I am on creamed Soups now but have 3 weeks of pureed before real food. I very much want this to work and am contemplating getting professional help so that I dont lose any time. Who is the right person for this? Does anyone see anyone for this same issue?

One day post-op, can't decide if I am petrified or excited
You are fine. I expected to PB on day one and was very anxious. But nothing happened. I could hear a girgle when I drank alot of Fluid, but that was it. Once I got passed the first few days I felt normal again. I am still surprised that if I follow the liquid diet (I have full liquid for week 2 and pureed for weeks 3-6) I am really not hungry. I expected to be passing out from lack of nutrients. Wonders never cease to amaze me.

October 2010 (Bootiful Bandsters) Thread
I was banded on 10/4 and had my 1 week (and 2 day) followup appt. I have been on the scale every day and was upset because I was 1 lb lower yesterday than today and thought I was failing (I am extremely hard on myself and hope learn to cut myself some slack). So, here I was thinking poorly about my loss. When I got weighed at the Dr office I was down 8lbs since my preop appt and 10lbs total since the appt before I started my preop diet. So much for thinking I was failing. What I learned from this is forget weighing every day as it will just cause disappointment in the short run. I am putting up my scale until I am better able to cope with it and will just wait it out until my 4 week post op appt.

101 pounds lost forever!
That is simply wonderful! I am so proud of you and all the hard work you did to get there. I was going to have Dr Cribbens but as I work for a hospital, I had to have the surgery done that and he wasnt on staff there. I liked him.

Couple of things
I had the runs for about 5 hours. Then poof they were gone. No problems since. Today is day 4.

One day post op!
Mishay, I had my surgery yesterday as well, but didnt have to spend the night. I slept most of the day due to the pain meds, which was totally find by me. I have almost no gas, so no gas pain. I am most happy about this. I am also able to consume the same amount of liquid that I did before surgery. I am trying to stretch out the hydrocodone by using tylenol in between doses with some success. Some people say day 3 is the worst, but I dont expect much more than I have had today.

October 2010 Bandsters!!
I was banded yesterday. So far the recovery hasnt been bad. At one point there was a question if I would get the surgery as my sodium level was too low. They did a stat lab test and it was up so we were ready to go. Upon waking up I hurt and had nausea but they went away quckly when I was given meds in my IV. Mu surgery time was 11am and I was releassed at 6pm, follwoing a fluorscope to see if I had any leaks. I havent had gas pains, other than 3 good belches. My pain is relieved with the liquid hydrocodone that I was given and I sleep alot. I am sure this is related to the pain meds but that is ok, I will cut back tomorrow. I only put 3lbs back on during surgery. I have been able to drink just like normal, but am not yet hungry, only thirsty. I really havent done much walking, even around the house becuase I feel spacey from the pain meds. I do feel like I have a big ball in the side of my stomach where the band it, but I would expect that. I understand day 3 is the worst, so I will see how that goes tomorrow.

Worried that my insurance benefits are going to change during open enrollment in NOV!
Mined happened the other way. I had gone through my 6 mo diet only to find out bariatric procedures werent covered. But, this year we switched carriers and they are. I had to wait a year longer than I had planned, but it worked out ok.

Where to find liquid tylenol?
I know there was a recall earlier, but I thought there would be product on the shelf. I went to the grocery store, CVS and Wahlgreens with no luck. I was able to get chewables but not liquid>

Tomorrow is the day!
Tomorrow is my day too. I have to be there at 10am for an 11:30 surgery. I am glad mine is later because I dont have to fight commute traffic which would add an extra hour to the drive. I am not nervous, just anxious for it to be over. Good luck Mishay!

Dr approved 1 month off after surgery!!!
Honk, I had even checked with HR to verify. Texas doesnt have state disability so the program is paid by the employer. I am actually entitled to 6 months medical leave. There is a 2 day waiting period for an illness, but if you were hospitalized (outpatient surgery counts), then there is no waiting period. Plus, it is paid at full salary.
