  1. Suzette,

You will find that people will do either one or two things: support you or judge you. You cannot worry about anything right now other than adapting from your weight issue. After all, every one of us who is banded, or who has some form of bypass has a problem with food intake, some admit it...some don't. Do not beat yourself up about it. Best advice I can offer is keep your drs. involved. Just because you see a psych doesn't mean you are any "crazier" than any of us. I personally think it is a good idea...the psych I saw for pre op is who I choose to continue to see because eating disorders (whether minute or extreme) are issues that should be discussed with a professional. Stay encouraged and do your very best!

    Good luck

  2. the only reason i worry about telling her how great she looks at this point...is she is the definition of "unmotivated"...u literally have to make her do everything in life...i'm afraid if i make a big deal of what she has lost ....she'll feel its enuff and stop...she is still at an unhealthy weight...its kind of a lose...lose situation...she does not eat healthy at all nor exercise...i don't want her to go to town with food ....thinking she is finished...

Unnecessary drama. Let your friend do what she does and be honest, if that is truly your friend. Whether she looks like she lost the weight or not shouldn't matter, but I know honesty matters in a friendship. If she says she lost the weight trust that.

  3. I understand everybody's pain. I begin mushies tomorrow and I am sooooo ready! I was able to have a mixture of broth, Jello, Protein Drinks (yuck) during my two week post op. Tomorrow I can begin eggs/mushies and I am so excited. I have lost 19 pounds (was 20 but one day I ate slider food, was hungry and weak--don't regret it but just won't do it again) so I am staying on track. I will be glad when I get my fill on 8/14. Here's a pretty good post op diet plan to follow, my diet is a little different but I thought this was a good resource.

  4. You are a special man and an awesome support system to your wife! I congratulate you both on a wonderful life together. And thank you for not becoming discouraged when some people tried to tell Agnes to reconsider.

I had a support system during the surgery and I didnt expect for everyone who was there to show up but I was so relieved and recovery has been wonderful. A positive outlook does make a difference.

Best wishes to you and your wife.

  5. I didn't need Gas X...and they don't help at all with the pumped in gas that surgeons use to make the surgery easier. (And a GOOD surgeon can remove most of that; mine did)

Gas X (simethecone) just breaks gas up so you can burp it out, and I had NO trouble burping! LOL but it helps some people.

However I'd check with the doc to see if s/he recommends it first.

Yes, my surgeon is awesome, I have a single incision, and he pumped all of the gas out. Aside from the tenderness around the port/incision, I have been great. So I only take the protonix, I had my followup yesteday and they are ready to do a fill in July. I told them I would like to wait a couple of weeks, at least until the tenderness goes down.

  6. Jen,

I was very hungry last night possibly because everything came out (sorry to be so blunt, lol) I have a followup appointment tomorrow, and besides a minor headache from time to time, I am doing well. Just staying in the home and relaxing, walking, drinking Water (ughhh), broth, etc. My only issue is the carnation instant Breakfast (yuck!) Maybe its the vanilla flavor but a e-buddy told me to get slim fast and that should suffice. There is also this bariatric shop by my home so I may go there, they blend drinks to see what you like before you make a purchase. They take online orders if you are interested heres the link http://www.bariatriceating.com/

Good luck on the rest of your journey and I hope you have great success! :)

  7. I really like that analogy...I havent talked to him about the surgery since..I know I am gong to have it. July 17th is the day. I dont kow how to approach him about it...he doesnt know the struggle about being heavy...and I feel embarressed. Im not a regular overweight girl...I wear tiny dresses, and act like a have a perfect body..although Im hecka over weight...so when i have to talk about my weight..especially to a person who i dress up for (sexy lingerie) and hide my true shape and my true feelings about being obese...i get really embarressed. I cant talk without crying.. cause i want him so see this sexy confident girl..and I cant reveal that im really not that sexy..and not that confident..

I think he will like you or love you either way, men have a weird way of showing their concern. If your weight was an issue before he would have never dated you. Maybe he is trying to see if you are really going to do the surgery. They have the weirdest ways of trying to call our bluff, lol cheer up! Hang in there and good luck! You will be just fine.

  8. Iris, thanks so much for your encouragement. Good luck to you too, with your meeting and with your surgery on Thursday. Everything will be fine. :rolleyes2:

Thank you as soon as you are able, please let me know how everything went. The meeting was really reassuring today, the nurses were really informative, supportive and helpful.

  9. It's been almost 8 months since I got my Lapband....and I have only lost 40-something pounds. I know that I am not drinking as much Water or eating as much Protein as I was when I 1st got the Lapband.....and I can mention a million reasons as to why, but there really is no excuse because I have the tool to lose the weight and I am not taking advantage of it. I am having a very very hard time getting back on track and kickstarting my diet plan again. I have been to several support groups but they are a joke/not helpful at all. I just feel like such a failure being stuck and not being able to lose anymore weight. :)

IMO I think you are doing good.

  10. Hello,

I am eagerly awaiting the decision from Carefirst BCBS. My documents were submitted on June 12th and still nothing yet. I work for a public school system and was informed the 6 month supervised diet was not a criteria with their policy. AH....this waiting is driving me crazy.

How long did your process take????

Hi I am a teacher too :bored:. I am in S. Florida and our insurance does not require a 6 month supervised diet so I made my pcp and nutritionist appointment in Feb, psych appt in March, and pre op in May, and was approved May 29th just in time for summer..I hope everything goes smoothly for you. I got a good surgery day with summer vacation and all. I know some teachers who came to work right after other bariatric procedures and I do not know how they were able to do it!

  11. If this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it!

I posted this on my profile page, too:

Everything went GREAT! I will try to blog it tomorrow, but for now I just want to take my next pain pill and anti-nausea medicine then hit the sack!

I was tickled to death that the surgeon complimented my husband on the condition of my liver. He said it was obvious I worked hard on my pre-op diet because he had no issues with it at all!

    Yay, me! :)

Now I have to admit I'm in the post-op "pain and agony," though based on previous surgeries I've had, this one really isn't too bad. I'm waiting till I can take my next set of pain and anti-nause pills and then I'm going to bed for a long, long sleep!

As said elsewhere, most of the anxiety is in the anticipation. The last thing I remember was them fumbling with my arms to set them on those table extensions, then all of a sudden someone was nudging me saying, "It's Over! You done good!"

    LOL. :frown:

Oh, one thing I need to remember is (to paraphrase Dory from "Finding Nemo) to keep on walking, just keep walking. . .

Glad to hear... I thought of you and hope you have a speedy recovery!:(
