  1. I would try to take it. I didn't have any issues taking any pills after surgery, but then again, that's just me. I think you've already had issues with pills? That prozac is a bit important!
  2. I'm 16 weeks today and I don't feel any of those things. The only problem I had was my band tightened and I lost quite a bit of weight. More than 10 pounds in a month. I had 1.5 cc's taken a couple weeks ago and it made all the difference in the world!

    Driving restrictions?

That driving restriction has to do with pain meds and anesthesia usually. That's all.
  4. I have an iPhone and I use FatSecret and LoseIt.

    Sickness while pregnant?

I didn't really have morning sickness. I wasn't feeling well and i did get nauseated, but my PCP gave me phenergan to keep it at bay. I only felt that way for a few weeks. I did get 1.5 cc's taken out of my band though because it tightened during the first trimester. It was extremely difficult to eat. I could feel everything going down and I had lost more than 10 pounds in less than a month.
  6. A dear friend of mine lost her mom this past Christmas eve due to a gastric bypass gone wrong. There was a bile leak that took them months to find and eventually led to her death. That was enough for me to say I definitely made the right decision for me. However! My brother and my sister-in-law both had gastric bypass and it has done wonders for them. They do have the occasional dumping syndrome, but it doesn't appear to be any worse than a stuck episode for me (which I've only had 3 in the year I've had the band). It just needs to be a decision you come to and what you feel is absolutely best for you! There are some people who get the band and then realize it's not working for them and they decide to go ahead with band removal and gastric.

Who had a baby after having Lapband?

Stacey the lap band was a last resort for me! This will be my first baby. Once I got the lap band done, I was regular as anything from the first month. This has been such a blessing for me! Definitely keep the faith Stacey! I had given up and didn't think I would ever get pregnant....but I was 13 weeks when I found out I was!

    Dazed and Confused!!

You actually need between 1000 and 1200 calories to lose weight. You won't lose weight at 800-1000 because your body is going into starvation mode. It's like what malnourished children in 3rd world countries experience.

Who had a baby after having Lapband?

I haven't had a baby yet, but I am pregnant now after being told for the last 6 years I couldn't have children. My doctor doesn't usually do an unfill, but he did have to take out 1.5 cc's because my band tightened so much I was unable to eat and lost about 10 pounds in a month period. Since having my band loosened I have gained back 5 pounds in the last 3 weeks, which is what I needed to do. Now I'm on course for the typical 1 pound a week. I feel my port no differently than I did before I was pregnant, but I'm only 15 1/2 weeks at the moment. I will be able to have a natural birth, barring any complications (that won't be band related). The band should not affect my pregnancy at all. Because I plan on breastfeeding, I will not get my band tightened up immediately because I will require an additional 500 calories a day. I can answer more questions the further along I get.

    Feedback Please!

My shoulder surgery was way worse than my lap band surgery. Lap band was cake compared to that.
  11. I never feel my food unless I dont chew it enough. My band did tighten up when I got pregnant and I did feel everything then, but I got the band loosened up and now I'm fan.

    I'm back and BANDED!!!

Congrats chica! I'm so glad everything went well and you're on the road to recovery!

    Cold feet?!?

It's normal to flip-flop. And it's normal for people to tell you what you should and shouldn't do. You need to go with what you think is best for you. Me, getting the band was the best thing I could have ever done. In less than a year I had established new eating habits, lost all my excess weight, established a bit of a fitness regimine, and got pregnant. Best decision I made in a long time!

    pain question

It's not an emergency unless you're running a temperature so you'll need to call on Monday. Unless you're sick, it's red and puffy, etc, you should be OK until monday.

    pain question

I would call your surgeon and see what he says. I have been banded a little over a year and never really experienced any port pain except for when I was initially banded.
  16. You're eating a lot because you're in bandster hell. This is the period between surgery and reaching restriction. It's hard to deal with and it makes you wonder whether your band is working or not. Have faith that it is. The liklihood of your band having slipped is slim. You're just in that phase where you have no restriction. Just use this time to try to establish new eating habits, substitutions and self-control. You CAN do this!
  17. I'll be your buddy/mentor. Ask away
  18. Erin you have to get about 1200 calories a day, otherwise your body goes into starvation mode. If you know you're not eating properly, it's time for you to do something about it. If you think it's something psychological, then you need to think about talking to someone. You need to eat to survive. You need to eat to lose weight. You were banded shortly after I was. If you need someone to talk to, ask questions to, etc, feel free to contact me. I don't mind at all. You can do this girl.
  19. I go play a video game, pickup a book, or I jump on my cannondale and go for a ride with itunes blaring in my ears!

Not feeling full 10 days post op

Hannah, you are now in what's called "Bandster Hell." This is the period between swelling going down and reaching restriction. This is the time to establish new eating habits and self control/willpower. When the swelling goes down in your stomach after surgery, you are left being extremely hungry. You will continue to feel this way until you reach restriction. And trust me, it sucks. Some people reach restriction quickly, others, not so much. Also, since you're only 10 days out from surgery, make sure you follow the post-op eating plan your doctor gave you. Deviating from this can cause problems, including band slippage. Once you are able to progress to the fuller foods, you will start to feel full longer. You will still get hungry, but not as severe. You can do it chica!
  21. Yes! I use a couple. I started with Lose It! Which is great, but I also have FatSecret. I love both programs and switch between the two. I use a weight tracking program pretty much exclusively now because I have met and gone below goal. Since I'm pregnant I am trying to make sure my weight stays on track with what I need to gain to have a healthy pregnancy. It's called TargetWeight.
  22. I had the same issue between lunch and dinner. Pickles are an excellent snack, with only 5 calories and can rev up that metabolism. I'm a cottage cheese person too, so I would have a little cottage cheese to try to tide me over to dinner. Just make sure you are distinguishing between head hunger and true hunger. I always wait until my stomach physically growls before I snack on something. That way I don't let my head control my weight.

Pain in my side when I eat

I would call your surgeon's office and talk to them. That does sound like it could be band related, but I'm no doctor.
  24. My doctor said if I were to go a week without losing a pound I had to go back to liquids until I lost that pound plus one more. I only had a couple plateaus, but his advice was sound and worked well! Maybe try that before you go get a fill. The reason I say this is because sometimes our metabolism just needs a little kickstart.
  25. I used an app on my iPhone to track my calories and what I ate for the day. I followed my doctor's instructions and the most important thing I did was start exercising once I started feeling able to. My favorite activities are hiking and cycling. I'm not into them hardcore, but I do enjoy them. I'm into photography, so hiking with my camera was a way to add weight, especially carrying a backpack with my lenses and extra bodies in them. Made for more of a workout. I did have to have shoulder surgery in january and I am still recovering from it, so anything involving straining my right shoulder is out of the question. I also learned substitution! Desserts? No problem! sugar free all the way and stick to the proper serving size! Going out to dinner? How about getting a salad instead of that starchy tater? Worked for me.
