  1. Plano is a great area. Lots to do nearby. If you are going to be here for two weeks, you might also look into an Extended Stay Hotel. The plano area has tons of them and you would get a full equipped kitchen or kitchenette and more room. Might save you some money rather than dining out all the time. You can usually get pretty good weekly rates.

I always have dessert. Typically a Bariwise protein bar. They are really yummy - like candy bars, I swear. Peanut butter and Caramel Crunch are my two favorites.

I would recommend tracking what you're eating. For me it just keep me accountable for my choices. I'm not really dieting, just tracking. Even my martinis get tracked (FYI - that's why I drink martinis, easier to track and less mixer calories). Even though I want flexibility and enjoyment with my diet, having to track it keeps me eating just 2-3 hershey's kisses instead of 15-20. I use livestrong-myplate. I hope this info helps. Take care.

  3. Barb -

I went in and tracked what you were eating (I guessed at some quantites). It looks to me like you might be a little bit high on carbs (65-70) but only from two items (grits and possibly the yogurt - not sure what brand of yogurt and carb count on that). Once you start soft foods and then solids, you can easily just sub those out for more protein dense foods (chicken salad, tuna, etc). This will keep you full longer and boost your protein with basically no carbs. For me, I am pretty protein heavy the first part of the day: I drink a protein hot chocolate with my coffee every morning for breakfast, for lunch I usually have deli meat rollups (w/ lt cream cheese, or spinach artichoke spread) or baked/grilled chicken breast (2-3oz). For snack, I usually have more chicken or protein shake. Dinner - I just have what I'm cooking for the family. Whatever it is. I eat protein first and salad, and then a bite or two of the sides (veggies, fruit, pasta, rolls).

Looking at your current diet, are you losing weight? Are you tracking it on any tracker (daily plate, myfitnesspal, etc ?

  5. Hi Barbara -

I don't really count carbs (I had pizza tonight if that says anything- not much mind you - had a few bites and then just at the topping off a tiny piece). I try to limit my white carbs but don't completely avoid them. I try to eat my protein first and am usually too full to have more than a bite or two of my sides (veggie, fruit, starch, whatever) at dinner. I probably eat between 40-60 carbs a day - sometimes less, sometimes more. I have been losing weight steadily doing it "my way". I believe some people do have issues with insulin resistance and may need to be more aggressive, but not me. To me, it's all simple physics - eat less than you burn and you will lose weight. I'm in this for the long term and want to enjoy myself in the process. FYI - I started drinking alcohol again (martini's) at 10 weeks post-op (don't tell Dr. Nick) and I like an occasional piece of chocolate and wheat thins are my weakness.

    Calcium Citrate

Calcet Lemon Creamy Bites - I like them too. I just count them as a snack.

    Stretching your sleeve

Megan - I was hungry early out also. Liquids just didn't do it for me. I'm sure it was head hunger (still have it) but it definitely gets better. Mushies were much easier for me. I got full quickly on just a few bites and it seemed to stay with me a lot longer. On solids foods, it's even better. Remember that liquids just go straight thru your sleeve as they would normally. Let your new little tummy heal because it gets so much better. Now, for head hunger, I'm still battling that one. I do great all day long until just about bedtime and then I get the munchies. I have tried to control it and deny myself without much luck. So now, I just work with it. I only eat about 600-650 calories during the day and save an extra 150 calories for my "bedtime snack" and then I eat a Bariwise Peanut Butter bar or caramel crunch bar (like a Protein candy bar - they are yummy). I am usually not even hungry, but I mentally have to have it. I know I shouldn't eat just before bed, but I am struggling to win this battle so I have just worked it in to my plan. Hang in there, it really gets so much easier. :001_tongue:
  8. I also drink right up until the first bite. I heard it didn't matter (the 30 minutes before) with the sleeve.
  9. Did not know this. THANK YOU!!!

I went to The GAP the other day, I was able to SQUEEZE into a size 10 in their jeans. I didn't buy them, not yet, but was excited about the 10.

    good idea!

    I am FREEZING

Funny you mention the $1 gloves - I have a pair right here. I couldn't type with them on, so I went an got my hair dryer. I'm sure I look funny all bundled up, in the house, with the hair dryer blowing hot air on my hands, but I am tired of being COLD. I had my blood work completed in November and all was well. I may mention it to my Dr and see if they have any thoughts. I really think my body is just conserving energy - trying to be more efficient (maybe I can qualify for the energy savings tax credit:lol0:).
  12. kids Flinstones / Onesource - whatever. Again, they don't have iron. I take the BA chewable iron a couple times a week to supplement. I don't seem to be low on iron so I haven't worried about it.
  13. I am 5 months post-op and can eat ANYTHING. And, I often don't chew my food very well. I am trying to slow down, but old habits die hard. Of coarse, since I am still trying to lose weight, I am careful about my choices. But if I really, really want that Cheeseburger (or whatever), I have it. The sleeve just limits me to a couple of bites. My sleeve is EXACTLY what I was hoping for when I signed up for WLS. :thumbup1:
  14. lfurr - My stomach skin is really wrinkley - I wouldn't look good at the moment in a two piece. But it is shrinking up better than I thought. I will take the wrinkled skin over the fat ANY day.

  15. One-a-day makes an adult gummy (which I have purchased), but I often just take my kids' gummy vitamins. They don't have iron, so that's why I take a chewable iron a couple times a week. You should also spread your calcium thru out the day - you can only absorb about 500mg at a time. You also don't want to take your calicum the same time as your iron (whether in a multi vitamin or separately). I usually start my day with my gummy vitamins and 2 petite Citracal. In the afternoon, I will have a calcet lemon bite for a snack. I usually sneak the iron tablet after dinner - iron is best absorbed with food during the digestive process. I hope this helps.
  16. Congratulations on getting your surgery date!!
  17. Kermit - Congratulations on your weight loss. Sometimes you get to take the GOOD with bad...
  18. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Take care.

    December 2009 -- 60lbs lighter

Wow Caro! What a transformation. You look fantastic. Great job working your sleeve. Keep up the good work!
  20. Hi Ana - No problem. I have two young children too, so I can relate. You may still be pretty tired from the trip (I would be anyway), but I remember the 14 day post-op day very vividly. It was like someone flipped a light switch and I had energy again. Good luck on your journey.
  21. I did not have any medical conditions or medical history, other than bad knees and therefore only had to have physical, blood work & meeting with nutritionist.
  22. Shanda you look AMAZING. You are doing so well. Keep it up. It's pretty cool that you started just about the same weight as I did, just 6 weeks later. Looking back at my weight tracker, I was right about the same (180) at 4 months post op too. It really works, it just works. You are going to make a beautiful bride. Can't wait to see those pictures.
  23. Kermit - Did the meds work? Worried about you....
  24. Absolutely - just let me know if you need anything at all.:001_tt2:
