So it's official...I have sleep apnea...and I haven't slept since I found out...only catnapping since. UGH. At this point, I am not even thinking about the lapband...I just want to sleep. I have checked out the horrors of sleep apnea...double ugh! I went to the sleep apnea online support site...not as user friendly as LBT..boo-hoo. Anyway, Tuesday is when I get fitted for my lovely "headress"..hey maybe I can glue feathers on it...LOL :whoo: I laid on the couch :couch2:the other night to relax...all alone in the livingroom...and my throat closes...OMG...sat bolt upright...told myself to relax and I'd be okay....hmmm not! Went to the kitchen to get cold water from the cooler...took a sip, and the swelling went down! Yay! Luckily that was the only time that has happened to me.....but honestly I do find myself holding my breath a lot...esp when I am driving...Its comical when I think about it...I'll be driving along:car: and start to feel faint...and I am thinking...crap what is this about...then I realize..."Dummy, you are holding your breath!!!!! I take a breath and immediatly feel better. :drama: ugh the drama!!

I wish you all the best!! As someone who is going thru the process to get approved, I was wondering: Why specifically are they denying you? Are they saying you are too healthy?? Not heavy enough? I just called my insurance about a confirmation for the sleep apnea and the woman in the eligibility dept said she didn't know how i got approved!! (heart was stopping at that moment) it seems that they still had me listed as working for the electric company and having full benefits...funny cause I quit the elect co back in 2000 and got rid of my benefits with them in 1995!! So i was glad I called because that info may have stopped me from getting approved luckily i caught it before the doc has put in for the surgery!!

Hmmm as soon as I am done Spanish II, I think I will get that book. Might as well, I am still not sleeping!!! Today I am gonna pop into Borders...they have a recipe/lifestyle book for LapBanders!!

Is that really true? About the dehydration?? My GP told me overweight people cannot be dehydrated....something about Fluid in the fatty deposits.

Hi Cathy, Sounds like you are getting jitters, and rightfully so, surgery is no laughing matter. Who is telling you lapbanding doesn't work most of the time??? They seem misinformed. Just read these posts........everyone is losing. (with the exception of the really rare) You may want to talk to your surgeon again. The lap bad does its job, its up to each person to make changes in thier habits to make it work for them. All the lapband does is makes a sort of holding cell for the food until it can go into the big stomach...it won't cut your cravings (i saw this on another post). Make sure you read thru more posts, there are some wonderful success stories out there!!

Isn't it funny that we are all told different things by different doctors. That is why I like Lapbandtalk.com we get the other prespective! I totally agree with what you said about the carbonation stretching the pouch...I would think that it just slips thru the hole into our big stomach....and if carbonation did indeed stretch...what on earth would bread or beer or other yeast products do to us?? I shouldn't need colon cleansing after I am banded....but what I didn't know before the postings is that a lot of people did it pre-banding to eliminate gas.....I am all over that!!!!! My first c-section I had so much gas....omg I thought I was gonna die....of course my dad came to the hospital and made me laugh so much the gas built up i thought i was gonna blow around like a leaky balloon ---should I actually let it out. Which I can't do in front of others not even my hubby-although he has no problem with it...lol. Ha ha just the topic got me giggling now. Take care!

Omg...I love cashews....and ginger for that matter. Ginger works wonders on an upset tummy! (and Papaya too!) I am into the all natural stuff! Question....can you eat nuts once you have been banded??? (and healed of course) I just assumed that nuts would be on the "no-no" list after banding!!

Diane, you were from Bergen Co.....LOL I said earlier that everyone but me from from there..lol. Someone's husband got laid off... or was it lost his job? Mine got laid off last month (union carpenter) and finally went back to work...ugh as a roofer...only getting 27 hrs due to all the rain! Unemployment would have been better than this! We have 3 kids, I don't work because I am in college full time and can't. Actually they just cut off my long distance on my phone because they couldn't wait till this weekend for a payment--Mind you I paid them $200 at the beginning of the week! Oh well, they are getting paid again tomorrow. A few of you are on Vacation....I will do that next year..taking Spanish over the summer so I am busy busy! My fav vacation spot is Hatteras NC, everyone is so friendly in NC!! My older sis is in NC as we speak..lucky. Oh and Cindy (I think) is having a Bandiversary!! Yeah I can't wait till I can say that!!! Congrats to you!! Hmmmm I know there are more people, but I can't remember what they are up to....So I will just say hello...I will remember everyone ..eventually

Oh, yikes that is awful!! I am very fortunate to have insurance that covers it...hopefully they will cover me specifically...my sis tells me she doesn't see why not, Lasik surgery is covered by my insurance...so why wouldn't this....i sure hope she is right. (actually they have covered everything else so far--all the pre-op testing!!) Lots of people use Dr. Ortiz, sounds like you'd be in good hands with him! Best wishes!

I am not banded yet...live in NJ. Why are you going to Mexico?? Al Roker's doc is in NY! I have read on other threads that fills are expensive if done by another doc. Dr Onopnchenko is doing mine in Atlantic City. There are plenty of Doc's here in NJ also.

Okee Dokee Dody thanks for the heads up....as a newbie here it looked like 3Loves was slamming Hootiebell for the same thing she was saying....seemed biased to me. I actually thought they were both being mean to you (I didn't see it until you pointed it out- I thought it was the colon cleanse room all over again...*snickering* ) I guess private jokes might be better sent privately so not to be misconstrewed. My aplogies to you and to 3Loves:hug: ......I hope you see where I was coming from! My bad:o .

My sis had GP & lost weight but not all. A friend of mine also had GP..lost a lot in the first year and is now at a standstill. My Doc did both of their surgeries....he told me that GP patients only lose weight in the first year...it is critical to lose in the first year because after that, the weight loss efforts slow down because the stomach has stretched and is larger than it was when they came from surgery. Banding however only allows you to lose 1 to 2 lbs per week, hence weight loss is seen into the 4th year out. GP was not an option for me because nobody is cutting thru my stomach ulesss I have cancer. Scar tissue in GP can also be a problem. I want to lose the weight slowly so that I don't need any tucking...plus they cut a part of your stomach away that does the absorbing. My sis lost a lot of hair--grew back but I can't afford the hairpieces! My doc trained in California with Carnie Wilson's doc who is a founder of the GP surgery. That is all the credentials I need. He also went to Pittsburgh to train with the lap band inventor (he came up from Austrailia to train.) So you have to be general when you talk about this because you can't be specific because GP does not affect everyone the same way, just like banding has affect all of you differently. (so, can Dody really be ganged up on for making a generalization? It would have been far worse had she been specific-which who really can anyway?) The whole point of these boards is to learn, and to hear things that make us go hmmmm...is good.

Thank you.. I am not traveling but I found the bra part especially helpful...i hate not wearing a bra! Hmmmm gonna have to figure that one out...and of course I was gonna wear my jeans---duh, what was I thinking!!?? My sis had our mom make tons of spandex "onsies" for her..they are really loose-baggy all over-feel naked wearing them...Oh she made a uni-onsie....sleeveless......I think I will have mom make one for me then I can wear a loose fitting tee-shirt and still feel "nipple protected"!!! I am lucky enough to only have to drive 1/2 hr to 45 mins from my house for my band. (Atlantic City, NJ) Thanks so much Kutia for the info!!!!!! :clap2:

Hi I am back...I was busy getting slammed on another thread...I need to stay right here where the nice people are! I was just skimming thru the threads and noticed my name, so nice of your guys to ask about me. I will go back and read them in full so I know how everyone is and what they are up to. Ha ha I did notice that someone said that most here were NJ wannabe's..that is funny! This weekend you don't want to be one...weather is stormy and crappy. Dishes are calling me, I have been ignoring them but they just keep getting louder....and I see the dirty laundry has given up on me too, i noticed it is crawling out of the closet on its own. (ugh) One would think that I lived alone...that I don't live with my husband or my son and daughter.....hmmm maybe I should act like I do and demand the remote, would they notice?? Hi Poodles, where did you see these pics, i haven't been banded yet, but i'd like to see what I am getting into.

Doesn't your college have a gym? I just found out that mine does and its free...not to mention the campus is huge and totally fenced in -there are paths everywhere. (for the Nun's I think, its a Catholic College) I can't wait...my neighborhood is not the best place to walk in. I have an hour in between classes and on Mondays and Wednesdays I will be there from 11am to 9:30pm--I plan on lots of walking!
