    pre op diet help!!!DRINKING..gulp gulp!

If you have never been one to drink lots of Water, you will find that for the first few weeks you pee like crazy...Your body is flusing out toxins. After awhile, you can drink the same abmount and not have to go any more than you did before you were "hydrated". A good rule of thumb is to drink BEFORE you are thirsty. Once you are thirsty, your body is telling you that it is dehydrated. As for caffeine and carbonation, there are a few reasons to stay away from them: 1) caffeine can cause acidity in the gastric track, which you do NOT want with a LAP band. 2) Caffeine can stimulate the hunger response, leading to overeating 3) Caffeine inhibits the absorbtion of Vitamin D (a bone building vitamin). As you are eating less food, and perhaps not getting as much Vitamins through your food, any malabsorbtion is not good. 4)Sugar and artificial sweetners cause the same insulin response in the body, leading to increased hunger. 5) They have ZERO nutritional value, and take up valuable space in your stomach where you should be putting nutritious, healthy food that can help your body... The long and short is (and this is from a Coke addict who IS quitting), Diet drinks only fool you into thinking they are a better alternative....Most of us got fat by not making good decisions for ourselves, in regard to food. If your doctor says it is a nono, it is that. After LAP surgery, it is the time to face our addictions to food and drink, and find new healthier ways to eat and drink. I wish you lots of success...and agree about the Crystal light..I use a TEENY bit in water so it gives it just a slight bit of flavor and makes it easier to get down......I also bought a juicer, and it is FABULOUS!!! I recommend it if you are not lazy. Good luck!! :biggrin1:

  5. OK, here's a mushroom Soup I make that is absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Even if you are not a mushroom eater, like my husband. And, depending on how much you blend it, it can be more liquid or less so.... I am estimating quantities because I NEVER use recipes per say...But, you can adjust to your own taste. And, you can leave out onion or garlic if you cannot handle it.... a splash of oil 1 medium sized onion, chopped 3-4 cloves, minced 1 1.2-2 cups diced carrot 1 cup of celery 2 cup of assorted mushrooms (shitake, straw, etc) 6-8 cups of beef broth (you can make from boullion) salt and peper Sherry (the alcohol burns off as you cook it, and you CAN leave it out, but I think it is missing something without it) Sour cream Saute the onion and garlic in a frying pan with a little oil, until the onions become translucent. Then place in boiling broth, together with remaining ingredients, except 1 cup of mushrooms. Simmer until everything is tender. Strain the solids from the broth and allow to cool . Place solids and some of the broth in a blender and blend until a creamy cosistancey (this is where you decide how smooth you want it.) Pour this back in the broth, and add the remaining cup of mushrooms. Let simmer for about 20-30 minutes, until mushrooms are tender. Add sherry to taste and allow to simmer for additoinal 15-20 minutes to burn alcohol off. Serve with a nice dollop of sour cream. I am telling you...this recipe is DELICIOUS, almost totally fat free and VERY healthy!!! I make it frequently. Happy drinking!

    Yoga / Pilates

You guys should get a GOOD pilates ball...The best ball on the market (in my opinion) is the Fitball.....www.balldynamics.com. The fitball is one of the original pilates balls. It will cost you about $30. Now, you can buy cheaper balls, but the reason you want the Fitball is that it is SAFE. It is made of a special material and if it ruptures or gets a hole, it deflates very slowly, allowing you to get off without falling on your a$$ and breaking something. And, the material is very tough!!! My two Boxers have jumped on me while I am on mine! Cheaper balls, if ruptured or receiving a hole, will collapse quickly, resulting in injury. I have one, and have had it more than two years. I love it, especially just to stretch when I have back pain. As a companion, you can buy a book called "Pilates on the Ball".They also sell it through the above link. DEFINITELY try it!!! The older I get, the less flexible I feel, and the ball helps me to feel like I am going to be a hunched over old lady!!!!!!! Charlotte

    Killing their daughter

I don't claim to know the circumstances of this particular interaction, and he maybe just an A$$. However, we have to be more and more careful about judging situations.....There is a genetic abnormality of the hypothalamus, which occurs in 1 out of every 14,000 Americans. It is called Prader Willi Syndrome. One of the symptoms is that the person suffering from this genetic disorder has an insatiable appetite...No matter how much they eat, they will continue to eat....resulting in morbid obesity. If they do not get the food they want, when they want it, they are sometimes even violent. Mental retardation in varying degrees is also a part of the symptom. Just thought I would throw this out there as food for thought. Before we can be so quick to react to other peoples situations, we have to realize that what we observe is often only part of the story. As overweight people (or formerly overweight for some of you! :Banane56: ) we have suffered from the sterotypes and judgment of others who think we are "fat" because we are gluttons...But, this "disease" we suffer fromm is not always because we are gluttons.............. We need to learn to build bridges of understanding and become ambassadors for this health condition which is killing our nation. Lots of success to all of you!! Charlotte

Folding Sheets, or, My Idea Of Hell

I can fold sheets like Martha Stewart...just as soon as I have a staff of 50 ike she does!!! And as for ironing, I am smart enough to remove my own clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer (still damp) and hang them somewhere...so I almost never Iron. Since my husband leaves the laundry to me, his clothes get hung up wrinkly, and HE can iron them when he is ready to wear them!!!!!!!!!!! hehehehe.....It's my way of trying to m otivate him to do his own darned clothes! :omg:

Why am I so hard on myself?

Just so you know, your feelingare not unuausl. Many people experience post surgical (post-op) depression. You aren't being hard on yourself. Here's an article which I found for you.... Depression after Surgery Depression and/or anxiety are often experienced after surgical procedures, at various times post operatively (immediately or months later). Intensity can range from mild dysphoria to major depressive symptoms. John Lauerman in the January 2000 issue of Harvard Magazine, addresses this topic in "An Understandable Complication...Coming to terms with postsurgical depression." The article talks about emotions before surgery as being expected and often handled quite well. Problems can also crop up in the recovery period which are not expected. After major surgery, according to the article, feelings of mortality, of loss, and of vulnerability can be profound." Shortly after surgery, depression can be attributed to pain, a problem with anesthesia, a sense of loss or another underlying cause. Post-operative depression, well after the crisis of surgery, can make it difficult for patients to cope with what they have endured. There might also be uncertainty about the future, or lack of understanding on the part of individuals close to them. This article points out the importance of communicating feelings of depression to medical professionals who may not be alert to symptoms, in order to have all possible causes of depression investigated. I hope this helps you. Just remember, we didn't get fat overnight and we aren't going to get thin in a week, either.......Nine pounds is a great start, and you are on track. If you lose too quickly, it is hard on your body and organs. Slow and steady is the best way to go. Don't get discouraged. Start walking and stay focused. You have lots of people rooting for you!!! I wanted to give you pervs what you wanted...Next joke: One night, a horny old geezer decides to get himself a hooker. Since the man doesn't have much money, he looks for the cheapest whore in the nearest Red Light District. A short while later, he finds what he's looking for and spends $10 for oral sex and intercourse. The next morning, the old geezer wakes up and discovers he has crabs. So, he gets dressed and heads down to where he had been the night before. He notices the same hooker on the street corner, so he marches over to her and says, "Hey, lady, you gave me crabs!" The hooker replies, "Hey, old man, what did you expect for $10? Lobster?" OK...who's next here??? :-)

OK Guys...it isn't dirty, but it is suggestive...Hope you guys find it funny.... During a good manners and etiquette class being held for young children, the teacher says to her students: "If you were courting a well educated young girl from a prominent family and during a dinner for two you needed to go to the toilet, what would you say to her?" Mike replies: "Wait a minute, I'm going for a piss." The teacher says: "That would be very rude and improper on your part." Charlie replies: "I'm sorry I need to go to the toilet, I'll be back in a minute." The teacher says: "That's much better but to mention the word "toilet" during a meal, is unpleasant." And Little Johnny says: "My dear, please excuse me for a moment. I have to go shake hands with a personal friend, whom, I hope to be able to introduce to you after dinner." AND TO TRICIA: You are gorgeous! Congrats on that amazing weight loss!!!! I saw your website today. You also have the most enviable hair!!!!! Char
  17. There was an article on Web MD, regarding a study performed on people who had undergone Weight Loss Surgery, and the positive effets it has regarding your risk of heart disorders.. This is a fantastic article to use to support your position regarding your decision to have WLS. Show it to your family, friends, DH, DOctor...if this doesn't bring them around to your point of view, you have to wonder if they really love you and want to see you around for awhile! :heh: Happy reading: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/124/115670.htm

    Working on the Chain Gang...

Well, it took me an entire week and a few days to find 10 minutes to slip away and make some calls to sort out the procedure for being evaluated for the LAP band, and to find out if insurance pays. I am so bl9oody busy at work that I cannot manage to stop to breathe, much less make phone calls.....But, ok, I MADE myself do it day before yesterday..... HOORAH!!!! My insurance company will pay 100% if I make it through the consults. THey gave me the name of the clinic that I needed to call to get a form sent to me. Once i have it, I have to go to my "huisarts" (house doctor) and haave him fill it in... I am sure it goes something like this: Name: Blubber Butt Height: Too short for her weight Weight: Too mcuh for her height Bodyfat: Broke the caliper Recommendation: SAVE THE WHALE!!!!!!!!!!!! lol KIDDING guys!!!! Anyway, once he fills it in, I have to send it back to the clinic, wait for the surgeon to evaluate and then they contact me to make an appointment for a consultation. If he/she approves the LAP band, I have to go to some other place for a series of counseling sessions and health assessments (they want to make sure I won't die in curgery or have comlications). After that...who knows. It is a process that they say takes 6 months or less. I could be having my last FAT CHRISTMAS this year!!!!! woopiee!!! I feel like I am working on a chain gang.....................

    Why are YOU Fat?

I asm still trying to work through how I ever disliked myself so intensely that I could end up....<GULP> Morbidly obese. Sometimes I think I must be completely blind and self obesessed to not feel as fat as I actually am (until I see myself in a reflection). I know what I am eating...But I still have no idea about what EXACTLY is eating me...... I have had lots of issues growing up...A fairly abuse father who did a tremendous amount of damage to my soul and my self esteem with his brutal words....A grandfather I doted on that died suddenly when I was 12..... two much older brothers that "abandoned" me for their own pursuits...one brother who never made it a secret that he hated me and wished I were never born..... possibility of some sexual abuse as a child (some issues have come up in therapy, but I never wanted to "go there")..... a history of sexual indiscretions starting in my early teen years... a rape at 15 resulting in pregnancy and abortion...... I can go on.....But, I guess you can imagine that all of that had to come out somewhere. And, growing up in the deep South with a very upper middle class Catholic mother, who believed in the myth of the Southern Belle and being gracious, I always had to be perfect and put together. I always had to be a lady and have a smile on my face...I was always the happy girl in High School that everyone loved (happy on the outside). Well, imagine that...probably food was all I EVER felt in control of...and then again, maybe I was killing myself slowly...... Jesus.....I think I need a therapist....and fast!!! :phanvan Anyway........maybe someone sees another pattern here.... Thanks for starting this thread and making me think...I need to do more of this before I get banded.
