  1. Hi All, Just thought I would share what my MD said about food: Days 1-7 Clear liquids only, Days 8 & 9 Clear liquids + drinkable yogurts, Day 10-21 Clear liquids + drinkable yogurt + full liquids (instant breakfast drinks, soups, strained vegetable, meat or cream, vegetable juices strained & milk). My MD said to NEVER EAT MUSHIES and that after Day 21, to begin regular foods but to be sure to chew, chew, chew & chew. I saw Dr. Ariel Ortiz in MX. He said that the reason he recommends no mushies is that our bodies are designed to eat solid foods, but that after surgery our stomachs need to heal. He said that after following the 21 days religiously, we will be ready for solids. I guess we'll see! (I'm on day 6 of the clear liquids). Tish
  2. Hey Billoh, You are still racing! Aren't we all ultimately racing against ourselves anyway? I've still got a long way to go, just banded 7/3, but you're an inspiration! Keep it up! Tish
  3. Hi All, Surgery went well, had it on Friday 7/3/09 with Dr. Ortiz. Dr. Ortiz and his entire staff were amazingly great! I would reccomend him and the clinic to anyone, especially if you're self-pay. It was really easy and I'm recovering well. Still have periods of feeling worn out, run down, a little nauseous, but that's to be expected when I overdo it, which I do. Proud to be a July Jewel! Tish

  5. Hi Somedayslim,

God love you! Sounds like the nausea/vomiting was horrible! My surgery was very easy and I returned to the hotel in the afternoon. My husband and I left Sunday morning from San Diego to Chicago, we then had another flight to Indy. We traveled 13 hours that day and by the time we got home I was really cranky and tired. I too battled nausea (I have extreme motion sickness) but my TransDerm SCOP patch helped 90%. I'm doing well overall, I went back to work yesterday, but I had to leave after 6 1/2 hours because I got nauseated and weak and pale. I went home and went to bed but still felt crummy in the evening. I feel much better in the mornings as a rule. The clear liquid diet is easier than I thought it would be, but I'm really looking forward to having some drinkable yogurt starting Friday and "full liquids" starting Sunday. I wish you the best and let's keep in touch!

    Recent "bandits"

Hi All, I was banded Friday 7/3/09 (5 days ago) and I'm doing great. The recovery wasn't bad for me and the clear liquid diet hasn't been bad either. I think the biggest part of success is the mind-set that you can do it! I saw Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez in TJ Mexico. They were AWESOME! So was the entire staff for that matter. I met some really great ladies that had their surgeries the same day and there was a real comradarie there. Best of luck to all and hi to Eva, Dawn, Ruth & Patty! Tish
  7. Hi GillianQ, I'm in a similar boat. I'm having my surgery done in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz, and I live in Indiana! I'm going to him for several reasons but the main one is that I'm self-pay, so my local docs were cost-prohibitive. I'm going to use the Fill Centers USA for my fills/aftercare. They're easy to find, and they have many locations across the US. Unfortunately, there are none in Indiana currently, so I have to travel to Illinois for the closest one to me. Dr. Ortiz will actually do free fills for life, I just have to pay the cost of the x-ray (fluoroscopy) but it may not be worth it for the cost of the travel, we'll see. Hope this helps! :tongue2:

    Clear liquids

God love you! I know every doc has their own instructions, so the best bet is to check with him/her. BUT, I was told that you can make your own chicken soup and strain it to have the broth. I also picked up a hint from another poster here who said she used to buy the Mrs. Grass's chicken soup and only used the boiling water and the broth packet, but didn't add the noodles or the "golden egg" (which is only oil anyway) and she really liked it. I haven't had my surgery yet, I leave for MX in 2 days and have surgery 7/3, but I've stocked my pantry with things like this. If you only drink tea and water you're going to get really weak. I hope you can find a good solution, best of luck!:tongue2:
  9. Good luck to you!!! I'm leaving in two days!
  10. I started my pre-op diet 5 days ago. It's been much harder than I thought it would be. I've been so hungry! I think that's because I'm trying to be a lot more active too, to help with recovery and post-op lifestyle changes. I've cheated a couple of times, but really minimally. I am supposed to lose 11 pounds prior to surgery and in the past 2 weeks, I've lost 9. I only have 2 to go and 9 days left in which to lose it. Every day that goes by it seems to get easier. When I calculate my caloric intake, I realized I'm only taking in about 650 calories a day (when I stick to it religiously). I'm drinking an Atkins shake for breakfast and lunch and the really small dinner of lean protein without sauces and green vegetables. I'm eating raw cucumbers and SF jello to help with hunger. It must be working!:smile2:

    July 2009 Dates

Hi, My surgery date is 7/3/09. Thanks!

    July Bios?

Hi All, I'm a July Bandster too. My surgery is scheduled for 7/3/09. I'm self-pay so I'm going to Dr. Ortiz in TJ, Mx. I wasn't overweight as a kid either. I got pregnant at 17 and had a beautiful baby girl. After the pregnancy I slowly developed symptoms of PCOS. That was 1989. PCOS is a horrible condition, in my opinion. But I was very blessed to have my daughter and was eventually able to also have a son. It took us almost 3 years to conceive him, after our daughter's conception was a "surprise". But, I do feel very blessed, because I know many people can't conceive with PCOS. Because my husband and I were so young when we had our daughter, we waited awhile before trying to get pregnant again, we wanted to be better prepared the 2nd time. So, our kids are almost 11 years apart. I was 28 when I had our son, and it was much better. I'm 5ft 1 inch tall but my highest weight has been 220. I don't feel like the "real" me. I feel like I'm wearing a "fat suit" all the time. It really keeps me from being able to do the things I want and love to do. I know my Lap Band is going to work for me. I'm not afraid of working really hard at this, I just need some help, and I know the Band is going to be just the help I need. Best of luck to us all!:wink2:
  13. Hi All, This question is for those who had surgery outside the US and had to fly home within 2-3 days post-op. Any complications? I already don't fly well, I usually get really airsick if I don't take any meds. I do okay if I use the Transderm SCOP patch, but I have moderate asthma, so it can over dry me and cause breathing problems. If I don't use the Transderm, I use 50-75 mg of Diphendyramine (Bendadryl). This dries me out too, but it has a much shorter half-life. I'm hoping to have the flight home be uneventful, but I'd like to hear stories from others who have done this. ANY information will be helpful. Thank you!

    Banding day is here....

I want to wish you all the best! I know you'll do great. Let us know how it goes!
  15. Hi! I'm a July Bandster too - my surgery date is Friday July 3rd! SOOOOOO EXCITED! I was told I had to lose 11 pounds prior to surgery, which of course made me panic a little. I knew I could do it, but it's still scary. I'm happy to say that I've lost 5 1/2 pounds as of this morning. I hate to try to wait until the last minute to lose. I've always been able to lose 10-12 pounds easily, I just can't keep it off, and I gain back more than I lost. HOOOORAYYYY for the July Bandsters!

We need a name July Bandsters

Hi 1hotchocolate! I agree. I'm being banded 7/3/09 so that puts me in this group. I like both of your choices for names. We may not be banded yet, but we're still SMOKIN' HOT!

    My PCOS Story

Hi Healthy-Me-In-Az, I'm new here too, and not yet banded. I'm self-pay so I've got to go to Mexico to be able to afford the banding. I'm seeing Dr. Ortiz and I'm scheduled to be banded 7/3/09. I too am so looking forward to meeting other PCOS ladies that are banding. I'm VERY thankful to have been able to give birth to two beautiful, healthy children - a girl 19 years ago and a boy 9 years ago. I was 17 when I had my daughter and had no PCOS. I am 5ft. 1 inch tall and weighed between 105-108 lbs. all through high school. I only got to 140 at the time of delivery and by my 4 week post-partum check up I was back down to 115 - with absolutely no effort. But slowly, over about 6 years, I really gained. I'm now 220. I was 200 when we were trying to conceive our son. It took us 3 years to conceive without medical intervention, but we were able to do so. It was only when we were trying to conceive our son did we find out I had PCOS. Luckily, by the time we were able to see the infertility specialist, we were already pregnant, we just didn't know it yet. I'm glad you were able to conceive finally too! I can't wait to get my band and get this weight off. It's great that we can all support eachother!
  18. Hi All, I'm getting banded by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico on 7/3/09 but I live in central Indiana. Does anyone know any good fill centers here locally? Thanks!! :frown:
