hmmm maybe i should move to Mauritania. lol While i was reading this thread i could not help but become upset. We should all be supporting each other in our quest for a healthy weight, not telling others that they need a conselor. Whatever the reason for someone getting the lapband, either due to vanity or health reasons is irrelevant. The fact is they qualified for the surgery. Societal pressures are just as important as health concerns. But i think hunnybuns question is valid, if fat was in would so many people be getting this surgery. I don't think so. And many people may truly believe that they are doing this only for health reasons, but i beleive for everyone deep down perhaps covered by the years is a part of them doing this in order to fit in.

My doctor told me it does not change the surgery but it changes the post-op care. You will have to wear your CPAP machine. She also said if you don't have the sleep study anesthia won't touch you. Plus if you have sleep apena it helps you get approved for surgery. GoodLuck!

Enjoy it, but always rember who was there for you when you were bigger. These new people are not true friends so be careful, but don't waste your mental health being upset with them, the only person it will hurt will be yourself.

Sorry I was unclear, what i was trying to ask is if the drs. did not want to help you because you had your band placed in CR? Or if Dr. Patel was discounting your pain because you had bariatric surgery? Like is he anti-wls, anti-fat? I hope you do file a complaint the way those doctors treated you is unethical.

Was all this agony simply because you had your band placed in CR? Or was it because the illness had to do with bariatric surgery?

Hey everyone I need your help. So my sister has this boyfriend that is a real loser. He lies about everything, he calls my sister nonstop to see where she is and what she is doing so much so that her last cell phone bill was $600 just from him calling, he constantly cancels then reconfirms then cancels plans again the end result being my sister spending the whole day by the phone waiting to see what he wants to do, the list just goes on and on. The point being he is just no good for her. My sister on the other hand thinks he is god or something, everything that goes wrong is her fault and she just wants to make him happy. Nobody in our family likes this guy, yet my sister brings him to our house nearly everyday and he spends the night (on the couch) often. my parents would rather have her at home with him then out with him. My sister is 26 and she is talking about marraige and kids, they have been going out for a year. I don't know what to do. I really hate this guy and if she does marry him i won't be able to vist with her and spend holidays together because of him, i love my sister so much but i just can't handle this guy. How do i get my sister to relize that she can do better?

I have been discriminated against in all aspects. Just recently, i got passed over for a promotion. The girl that was promoted to supervisor has less experience but she is very thin and very flirty. Well the girl is doing a horrible job and our boss came up to me and offered me the position. I declined and i am currently looking for a new job. I don't want to work in such a toxic enviroment any more. I haven't quit yet, i don't want to be jobless, but i can't wait until i find the new job and i can tell them all goodbye.

I was actually surprised by my family's reaction. My mom who is usally against surgery was all for it, and my sister wants to get it done now too (her BMI is too low though) and my brother was very enthusiantic. my brother was the real schocker. My brother has always been thin, and thinks most weight loss programs are a joke, that if you want to lose the wight its simple stop eating and exercise more. Well one night my bother and i were watching the surgery channel when they started showing the RNY, well he works in the OR so he started telling me how often they do it and that it is really not a big deal at all. So i decided that he was hinting at me so i told him that i am getting the lap band at another area hospital. He immediatly got a huge grin on his face and said that's good, will insurence cover it? When i replied yes, he said well then i should def. get it. It's funny how you can't predict people's reactions. i have yet to tell my dad because he is a blabber mouth and will tell the whole world, with out meaning to. I will tell him, but not until surgery is closer.

Hey Lighter02, don't freight. Lupron is such a strong drug, that you are only allowed to be on it a few months at a time. I'm not sure if your doctor told you that, that's what mine told me. So hopefully once you finish this cycle of lupron you will lose the weight. Is there a possiblity that you could switch to a different drug? I'm not sure what you are taking the Lupron for but i wish you the best of luck!

i can't wait to look good in a bathing suit. For years i have wanted to take scuba diving lessons but have been too afraid of how i would look. So when i reach goal i am going to enroll in classes!

I was told by my doc that i didn't need to do a pre-op diet. But the nutrisitionst (sp?) gave me instructions any ways. It is basically the slim fast diet, but with three shakes a day and one meal.

i was so surprised at how high my goal weight is. Right now i am 247 and my goal is 180. I was expecting around 140. But she said that they calculated it for 70% loss. She also added that most of her young patients get to thier ideal weight. I am hoping for 130.

I guess i am in the minority but i hate Spanx. I have watched the infocomerical so many times so when i saw them at LB i got so excited and i grabed a pair. I think they are the most uncomfortable things i have ever put on. i find a regular girdle much kinder. I am a size 22 right now so i think they are designed for smaller women. They claim no bulges but thats all i got. Good luck with your pair. Oh i got the power panties.

I am having an upper GI series tomorrow morning to test for one. The doctor said if they find one they will just fix it at the same time they are doing the band.

I can't wait until i can sit on a bus/ airplane seat without spilling out onto other seats.

Thanks everyone for your input. MelodyJ i think you are right about the low self esteem. Like myself my sister is big and this is the only guy that has ever really shown interest in her. I keep on telling her that she is beautiful and so smart and caring. i guess i will try to accept him. The only thing is for them a "date" is ordering in and watching TV. I keep telling her if they go on real dates then he wouldn't bug me so much. But oh well what can i do?
