    Thanks and congrats!

Lotus: Please stop beating yourself up. Of course the lasagna was a mistake, but there is really nothing you can do about it now. You learned from it and I'm sure you won't screw up on your diet again. I know some people on here were harsh to you, but they meant well. Just ignore the people who want to put you down. Don't let a few people stop you from receiving the support that all the rest of us have to offer. It's a good thing that you realized the error in what you were doing, but there is so no need to feel like you are a bad person because of it. You have real friends on here, you know who we are and we're still going to be there for you and support you the whole way. Remember, we're in this together.

    Those that have been banded.....

I didn't have any "what am I about to do?" moments, but after surgery one of the first things I thought was "what did I just do?" At the time it didn't seem like the pain and the discomfort was worth it. Thank God for pain meds!
  5. Hey there! I feel like I haven't talked to everyone in so long... lol. Anyway, Today is my third day post-op and I have been able to do a lot. Of course I am not lifting anything over 10lbs like the doc said, but I'm definitely moving around and doing a lot. I think your body will let you know what is too much. Just make sure you following your doctors' recommendations and you should be fine. My doctor actually recommends being as mobile as possible in order to help prevent blood clots. You're lucky you only had to do three days clear liquids. I have to do a week of 'em and then another week of thickened liquids. Woe is me... lol

    Dehydration

I am doing much better with my liquids. Currently I'm getting in about 1 1/2 bottles of water a day, 2 protein drinks and a popsicle. This is a BIG improvement for me and I no longer feel dizzy anymore. I WISH I could have yogurt like you guys, I'm not allowed thickened liquids until one week post-op. Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter since there is hardly a desire.

    Dehydration

Does anyone else have absolutely no desire to eat or drink anything? That's me right now. I'm pretty sure I'm pretty dehydrated because of it, but I can barely bring myself to take sips and I'm worried that it will hurt if I try to drink more or faster.
  8. Ok, so I'm not feeling any more pain, but I still have this GIANT bottle of codeine that is still mostly full... I really shouldn't let it go to waste, should I?

    A very rough day...but ALAS a solution

I love how you wrote that "it was like the heavens opened up." So sorry you were struggling with the nausea. That was me the day after my surgery. They kept trying to get me to get up and walk, but every time I would take a step I would start dry-heaving. Bleh... I kept saying to myself "what the heck did I just do?"

    Hospital - hints & tips?

My doctor required a longer hospital stay like yours, and let me just say it hardly matters what your bring because you simply won't care. Comfy clothes are a good idea, but besides that don't worry about it. I felt too crappy to listen to my ipod or read my book, that first day after surgery was just a blur. I didn't use any of the stuff I packed for my surgery besides my pajamas!

    My incision is infected!!

So how are you doing? Does the site look any better? I had my own infection scare the other night with a fever. Fortunately everything is ok, but I can only imagine what you must be feeling right now. Let us know how that appointment goes on Tuesday, and good luck with the nasty antibiotics. Ick
  12. I know it is pretty common. The packet of information my doctor gave me before my surgery pretty much said something to the effect of "if we find a hernia while we're doing the surgery we'll go ahead and repair it while we're in there." I think it's pretty common in overweight people, just like the whole fatty liver issue. Just another reason to be happy that you got the surgery, am I right?

When are scrambled eggs okay to eat ?

Scrambled eggs are on my mushie stage list too, which starts on the 3rd week post-op. Give your nutritionist a call, I bet they'd allow it.
  14. I think you will be fine, BUT you might want to tell your surgeon about the yeast infection prior to the surgery, just in case it could be a problem. Take Sandie's advice about the yogurt. I once had a doctor tell me that plain yogurt (no sugar) would cure a yeast infection. It's worth a shot because all those intravenous antibiotics they give you post-surgery could set you up for another one. Good luck, and don't worry so much! I worried so much before my surgery, but everything turned out fine.

    abbypoo!!!!!

I am feeling SO MUCH better today. Last night I got worried because I started to run a fever. I got to 100.8 and the doc said to call when it got to 100.5. Fortunately it was not due to infection and I am back down to a normal temp. today. I still haven't been able to finish an entire protein drink, but I think I figured out about how much I can drink before I feel full. I am so happy that I haven't "regurgitated" anything yet. I suppose I'll learn that lesson sooner or later, though. Oh, but check this out the nurse gave me the Heparin shot before surgery in the exact same place as the doc cut one of my incisions so now I have this HUGE bruise next to my belly button... yikes!

    Dehydration

Thank you guys for your suggestions. I'm getting better at drinking my fluids, and I'm getting braver about how much I drink at a time too. Seems like every day I improve a little bit.

    abbypoo!!!!!

Thanks for all your kinds words. Yesterday was my first day post-op and let's just say it was ROUGH. I've never had a major surgery before, so I guess I was just naive about the amount of pain and discomfort I'd experience after the surgery. On top of that, after I was discharged from the hospital we still had to drive from Detroit back to Wisconsin. Phew. I was so glad to be home. My mom was here waiting for me and went and filled all my prescriptions and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible. She also gave my exhausted boyfriend some respite. I'm glad I ended up getting the surgery, but I now know that if I end up having extra skin there is no way I'm going in for plastic surgery! As far as pain goes the narcotics they gave me are definitely taking care of that. My only complaints are my complete lack of desire to want to drink anything and that I'm a little gassy. Not too bad, overall.

    My incision is infected!!

Oh you poor thing! I hope that the meds clear it up and you don't have to go under the knife again. At least it sounds like the infection was caught early. Good luck girl.

    Those that have been banded.....

Hey ladies. I too was commando for my surgery. I was also on my period. My tom decided to be a week late and arrive on the day of my surgery. It was very light so I know I didn't bleed everywhere, but you know what's super creepy? I woke up with a pad between my legs!

    August 12th!

Hey everyone, just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm off to Detroit today and then tomorrow I have my pre-op consult and then my surgery on Wednesday. Just wanted to give a shout-out to my fellow August 12th BANDits and to everyone else who has been so supportive. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes when it's all said and done.

    August 12th!

We went to dinner near the Greektown Casino on our first night. I can't remember the name of the restaurant (probably because all I could eat was a crummy chicken salad), but it had TexMex. I wanted to go into the casino, but the bf wasn't feeling it. Wish I had read this post earlier, we were so BORED yesterday after my pre-op consultation. You're right, I am very pleased with Harper Hospital, and the whole Detroit Medical Center as a matter of fact. Detroit might not be what it once was, but these facilities are outstanding.

    abbypoo!!!!!

Thanks everyone! Just found some wifi, my surgery isn't until this afternoon (poo) so I'm playing the waiting game right now. Anyway, anyone been to Detroit recently? All I can say is "wow." I almost feel like I'm in one of those sci-fi movies where everyone has been abducted.
  23. What is the deal with all the people who have been banded in Mexico trying to convince everyone else to get their surgeries done there? I am not saying that there is anything wrong with getting banded in Mexico, but there are certain added risks and inconveniences when making the decision to get banded in any foreign country. There is also another category of people out there who like to sugar-coat the surgery in general and its possible complications to newcomers. They also like to preach about how gastric banding is superior to all other forms of bariatric surgery. I don't understand why people can't just share their own personal experiences and allow others to use that information to come to their own conclusions. Every one is different. They have different priorities, needs, fears and everything else. Just because something worked for you does not mean that it will work for everyone else. So, in summation. Just because you got banded in Mexico, doesn't mean that the guy who is thinking about getting the bypass or the sleeve in NY needs you to "enlighten" him. Just give your honest experience, and let that guy decide if it's for him. This is surgery people, not some kind of contest.
