  1. Thanks for the great ideas and thoughts everybody. I think possibly part of the reading problem is actually a vision problem. I've been watching him lately and even playing his psp he holds it pretty close to his face. Then I asked him if he could read the letters on my cell phone and he said he couldn't see them. I think that's the next step.

We did speak with his teacher and asked her for extra help for him. He is attending a brand new school and the classes have been over crowded, they are in the process of making a new class. We went to barnes and nobles Friday night to pick out books and the only thing that he wanted to buy was the picture books for pre k...I did find out that he likes to draw so I was thinking that if I bought him some books that teach how to draw that he would actually have to read the words and then make it happen...thus increasing his comprehension level...What do you think?

It's going to take some work... Thankfully, I've got a lot of patience when it comes to teaching people.

Thanks again for all the replies!~

  2. First sorry this has nothing to do with the band...I don't know where else to go to ask this question and I know that there are a lot of great minds out there so...

My friend just moved in with me and she has a ten year old son who is having major difficulties reading. I would guess he's reading at a first grade level. It took him over ten minutes to read one paragraph! He has to sound out every word! I don't have kids and have never been around kids. His mom doesn't read much, she's a high school drop out and has NO patience for his reading. I offered to help but I'm CLUELESS! The one thing that I did was tonight when working on his spelling words I made him say the word then spell the word and say the word again and write the word. I'm hoping the repetition helps.

Does anyone have any ideas, what else I can do with him to help get him up to speed? She has talked to his teacher and will be getting help at school. Any ideas on rewards for doing a good job? I really want to try to stay away from the typical food rewards that he's been getting from his gma. Don't want to teach a new generation bad eating habits ya know?

I would appreciate any and everyone's thoughts.

    Thanks,

  3. I've been watching one of my incisions fairly closely since having my surgery on 7/22. The day after my surgery it was really red and a little warm to the touch. So, I called the surgeons office and talked to the nurse. She told me that as long as I wasn't running a fever and the incision wasn't hot to the touch I shouldn't worry. She advised not to put neosporin on it, so I didn't. It's been red and puffy and didn't close up like the rest have. It's not hot and I'm not running a fever.

This morning, I noticed that it's oozing yellow stuff. Should I go ahead and put some neosporin on it and see if that helps and then call the doc tomorrow or should I use the hot line number and call today? I don't think it's anything life threatening, but I do think I need an antibiotic. I have my primary docs phone number and I know he would come over and check it out, but really don't want to bother him on a Sunday...Just not sure what to do at this moment...what do you guys and gals think???

  4. Have you talked to your surgeon? The newest lapband the lapband ap comes with a fill and of the three people that I have talked to that got that band ...all three had the same type of symptoms and all three had to go in and have some of the fill taken out and when they did they were able to eat and drink.

As far as the gas goes, walk walk walk and walk some more. But you shouldn't be having that much difficulty drinking just Water. Call the Doc!

  5. I have to say that there really isn't much that I wish they would have told me that I didn't get here before I had my surgery. I read so many post about the gas because I was really nervous about that and the common denominator in all the threads was WALK WALK WALK AND WALK some more so, that's what I did. I really didn't have any problems except for at night I used a heating pad on my back.

The other thing is sleep in a recliner for the first few days. I tried laying in bed and just cried. So, I slept in the recliner for the first three or four days.

    Good luck on your surgery!

  6. Yes the pains will go away. WALK WALK WALK WALK AND WALK some more. I know it may hurt right now but that's really the only way to get the gas out. I slept in a recliner the first four days because I couldn't get comfortable in a bed. If you don't have a recliner, I'd suggest adding lots of pillows and get to a reclined position instead of a flat.

I hope you feel better soon, welcome to band land!

    Stacy

  7. Hey glad you're feeling good!

I'm feeling good, just came in from my second walk of the day. I'm able to walk for about 40 minutes at a time without even getting winded. I usually hold my hand over my port site so it doesn't get a lot of movement. Over all it's been a good experience. It's tough not eating when I know I can.

Good luck and hope everybody is doing well.

    Stacy

  8. These are some great moments to remember! HH your story brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of my wedding day, I went to see my 94yo Grandma at the nursing home on that day then a few weeks later I took her the pictures, she was looking through the album and pointed to me and said "Who is that little fat girl?" Wow that one hurt Gma...Thanks! That was fourteen years ago and I have lost 60 pounds on my own and now since banding I've lost 21. My family have always made fun of me for my weight, my mom always says "You'd be so pretty if you'd just lose some weight." It will be nice to finally be rid of this weight and their rude comments.

I hope I can have great success with this band and be able to have a few of these in your face moments.

Thanks everybody for sharing and keepem coming.:juggle:
