    Food Before and After Photos

Hey there!! Question: I had a Lap Band revision to sleeve on 3/15/21 and never experienced dumping with my LB. What are the signs that you get if you feel like you are going to have a dumping response? TIA!!

    Feeling down

I had the same surgery date as you and from everything I have been reading, the hunger you (me, too!) have is absolutely normal. That's what my surgeon and nutritionist have assured me as well. Pureed foods and liquids are fairly low on the satiety level. And unless you are actually drinking a VAT of protein shakes, cottage cheese, etc. (which I know you aren't) I don't see how you could POSSIBLY be ruining your new stomach!! 30.6 pound sounds freakin PHENOMENAL to me (I am only down about 15 😩), so you should keep doing what you're doing, IMO! I HAVE to keep thinking that there is a light at the end of the tunnel in regards to the hunger we are having once we move into the stage! Sounds like you are doing wonderfully, I am wishing continued success to you!

    Unwanted compliments

I'm kinda torn about it...I do feel the same as you Zury G, that kinda 'What? I wasn't good enough when I was heavier?' thing but I also know people comment with good intentions! And it is really nice to see that your hard work is being noticed. That being said, there was a good article I read recently where it was suggested that we as a society should get into the habit of complimenting people in a non-weight based way. The author had actually enthused to an acquaintance she had not seen in quite a while that she looked so wonderful "Wow - you have dropped a lot of weight, you look terrific" and the acquaintance responded something like "Thanks, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago and that's why I have lost weight". I know..it's all hard to navigate, we are damned if you do, etc. As I said, I just try to remember the intention behind the comments and honestly, it is almost always meant with sincerity and admiration!

    Hey March surgery folks

Not sure how picky of an eater you may be, but are you at the hummus stage? Also, I was getting sooooo sick of sweet stuff that I made a non-fat strained version of tsaziki yogurt to satisfy my need for savory and it was really good. Maybe thinned out turkey chili? Again not sure where you are in your surgeon’s food stage intros nut sure this helps! wishing you much success! Feel good!

    Any surgery regrets?

I never had any regrets when I had my lap band put in 11+ years ago, despite getting horrible GERD and that the band likely causing my hiatal hernia. And I really don't think I will regret my revision to a VSG two weeks ago either. Not to go to "a dark place" in this thread but honestly, the point that my bariatric surgeon brought up in the seminar when I was considering the lap band years ago was "Why is it that you never see anyone who is old and obese? Because if you're obese you generally don't make it to old age." That has just stayed with me ever since. Wishing you all the best on your journey!!
  9. Just curious...I know this has probably been asked many times before but I'm curious to see what others are doing. I weigh once a day, same time(-ish), but 1/2 pound fluctuations are kinda making me a little neurotic so I'm wondering if I should weigh less often...
  10. LOL! A fancy robe & pj's!! I don't think you're even allowed to wear anything other than those super attractive hospital-issued gowns & the socks...? I could fit my stuff into a large ziplock - toothbrush, toothpaste, contact lenses, phone, phone charger with my extra long charging cable.
  11. 1) I think the answer to your (TEMPORARY!!!!) struggles is anesthesia. It takes AT LEAST one week to recover from its after-effects, and longer for most! 2) It is also really, really common to have these "why did I do this????" thoughts!! I was prepared for this when I had an elective surgery several years ago. The surgeon gave us a packet that went into this issue at length and it is all temporary, I 100% promise you!!!! You are EXHAUSTED right now!! Your body is recuperating!! As you probably have in read many, many posts in here on BP, the chorus line is "WHYYYYYYY didn't I do this earlier???" You have given yourself a tremendous gift - a second chance at health and...vibrancy!! This regret, remorse, what have I done feeling is going to pass!! 3) The 8.5# weight gain is also TEMPORARY. FAKE. WILL BE GONE VERY SOON. Remember that needle stuck on the back of your hand attached to the hat stand-looking thing with bags on it that you had to drag everywhere during your hospital stay (which I am going to gently remind you was only a MERE few days ago, my friend!! Be kind to yourself!!)? Those bags pumped your body with a lot - A LOT - of fluid. That 'weight' is going to be gone, plus more, VERY VERY SOON!!! So...I am hoping you find that place of optimism again very soon and please know that you have all of our support, encouragement & sincere wishes for your success and a brand new beginning!! Even if you don't feel it every second of the day during this journey - You've GOT this!!! You really do. xoxo
  12. TGF, the benevolent part of me knows there is a lot of wisdom in what you say. The smaller, ego-centric part of me asks: How hard is it for someone to just say "Wow!!! You look so happy and healthy!! GOOD for you!!"????? I mean, I generally try my best to weigh what I before I speak to people, why can't others extend the same courtesy? But, that being said, I *am* aware that I can definitely be über-sensitive at times, so...🤷🏼‍♀️

    Gee, Thanks Mom... I think...

ughhhhhhhhh. I am so sorry you have to endure comments like that and I am happy you know better than to buy into it. How old is your mom? I ask because OLDER generations still have the mindset that thin=automatic happiness, great self-esteem, and an overall superiority. Just not true. Sending MUCH positivity your way for insurance approval~~~

    The Night Before Is Here!

    Good luck!! You've GOT this!!!!
  15. I did (203, to be precise). Surgery was 3/15. Down to 191 and normally would be thrilled but I see others dropping far more weight during same number of days😬. That being said, my BMI was just shy of 30, I didn’t have to do a pre-op diet, aside from one day ahead of surgery. How quickly did you lose in the early weeks after surgery, GiCoDr? It seems like you are doing phenomenally and just slowing down due to your decreasing BMI...?
  16. Lahela - this is such a GREAT post, TY!! You touch on sooooo many things that 100% true (especially about friends, who, even though they may love us, want us to stay put in the role they're accustomed to having us in: the funny fat wingman, in particular). I hate that women can still feel threatened, competitive with each other when we are our own best resources for each other! There's enough of... attention? love? whatever!!! for all of us to go around. Anyway, again thanks for putting this all into words that I have felt but not ever expressed. Best of luck to you and to ALL of us!! YAY to us for being brave and wanting a different trajectory for our lives, in spite of what we/others haves assigned us in the past!!

    Hitting a Wall

Wow, Jaelzion - you freakin' ROCK!! How nice are you to have taken the time to do this!!❤️
  18. 🤣🤣🤣O M G. I am soooooo stealing that response if someone asks how much weight I want lose!!! I'm going to add that at 7.8 pounds I will be able to allow for a little 'wiggle room' if I fluctuate🤣🤣🤣
  19. I had someone say “Don’t you want to do better than that?” when I said my goal was to be back to a size 10/12. 😑 I am almost 5’10 & 55 years old. I also KNOW I look and feel really good & healthy at this size. I guess double digits=HUGE to her but...whatever!
  20. I was also! Two weeks - BAM! I don’t know how or why, but EVERY SINGLE THING fell right into place. All of the tests, appointments, even the upper GI and barium swallow I had to get for my hernia...I am so grateful because I am now one week out of surgery! Woohoo! GL to you, hope insurance approves quickly!

    ^^^ Y’all
  22. ruthpets

    Hey March surgery folks

I had surgery on 3/15 and other than some of the left shoulder pain I was warned about as a possibility, I am doing well. Sick of protein shakes but not on the ledge or anything. Walked on treadmill 30 minutes Saturday, going back toy & even getting a much needed mani pedi as I text this! PLUS, I get my Covid vax tomorrow so LIFE IS PRETTY DAGGUM GOOD! Hope all is going smoothly with yay!
  23. Me! One week post op too. And mine can even vary from hour to hour. I too am at the ‘gonna retch’ stage of protein shakes...No advice obviously but right there with ya 🙂

    Why am I hungry

I don't find the Fairlife Protein shakes to be all that sweet, if that helps any!

    Why am I hungry

I am six days post-op and hungry. My doctor told me Thursday that it’s because we are still on ‘foods’ (liquids, in reality) that slip through the pouch very quickly. They go through too fast for the brain to really register satiety. This will definitely change in a couple of weeks once we are able to tolerate more substantive foods. GL to you!!!
