  1. Hi Everyone,

I am an Analyst for a Pharmacy Benefit Management Company (i.e. Merck Medco, Caremark, etc.), full time mother of a 14 year old and 16 month old, and full-time student working on my Doctorate in Business Administration.

  2. Wow regardless of whether you had restriction or not I can't believe he put 9.5cc in the first fill!

By no restriction, you mean 1/2cup - 1 cup of food doesn't keep you full for 3-5 hours?

What type of food do you normally eat? How much? How long do you go in between meals?

I've got no answers for you. I hope you get some resolution.[/quote

    Hi-

By no restriction I mean I can eat the same amount before I even had surgery. I usually eat chicken breast, fish, tuna, etc (foods I would call healthy for the most part). I try to eat off a saucer but trust me that does NOT work. I have to have about 2-3 saucers in order to feel full. I can usually go about 2 hours between meals and about 3 hours if I have a small snack in between.

I'm with you. Hopefully, I get resolution to this as well because it's getting real frustrating..

  3. Hi Everyone-

I am struggling with not being able to reach restriction as well. Someone asked is it possible to fill to the max and not be able to reach restriction?? The answer is YES! I am living proof. I have the Realize C band and I am at 12.5 ccs and still NO RESTRICTION WHATSOEVER!! (I just put a post out there titled "HELP!! Overfill and still no restriction)..

I have been exercising and working off sheer will power to ensure I don't regain the little I have lost thus far. Talk about frustrated! Oh well, hopefully it will get better soon...

  4. Hi-

I am here looking for a little insight from anyone who may be able to provide some. Let me say my surgeon is extremely qualified and has done thousands of surgeries. I was actually recommended by others who have had RNY and Lapband done my him.

My dilemma is that I was banded 6/18/09 and went in for my fist fill about 6 weeks later. He does all his fills under fluoro to ensure the band is positioned correctly and there haven't been any slips. He's also extremely aggressive with his fills. Anyway, during my first fill I laid on the table and he told me to tell him once I start feeling pressure. He kept looking at me and finally asked "did you not feel any pressure"? I was like "umm No". He said he put 9 ccs in my band and I didn't feel anything. So he put about .5 more ccs in there and told me let's try it out at 9.5 and to call if I have problems/concerns/etc.. I have a 11mL Realize band. So, at this point I am @ 9.5.

Anyway, about 1 1/2 week later I call and let his office know I am not feeling any restriction and they said I can come back in. I go back in and he withdrew all the saline (to ensure there wasn't a leak) and filled me back up but this time he added about 1.5cc so that puts me @ 11.. STILL NO RESTRICTION WHATSOEVER!!!

So, I call back about 2 weeks later and let them know still NO CHANGE! Yet again I go in for another fill. This time he adds about 1.8 and that puts me @ 12.8 which is more than the 11. I kind of felt a little tight b/c it was a little struggle to drink liquids (I had to gulp real hard to get it down). I went the next day and he removed .8 which put me @ 12ccs.

Anyway, 1 1/2 week later he put .5ccs back in and I still do not have RESTRICTION!!! WTH!! I am getting so frustrated with the back and forth. My doc told me he has NEVER had to do an overfill with the Realize Band (he had a few patients he has overfilled that has the Lap Band) and that my band may be defective. If that is the case and I am unable to reach restriction with the overfills, I will have to have my band replaced.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening or has ANY insight? This is strange as well as ridiculous!

Thanks in advance for your help!:)

  5. If I never see another Protein Shake again, it will be too soon! Fortunately I have found a way to get my Protein in without drinking another shake.

Isopure is a clear Protein Drink that comes in lots of flavors. My fav is Blue Raspberry. the 20oz bottle has 40g of protein. I buy it at GNC.< /p>

Unjury makes a chicken broth flavored Protein Powder that has 21g of protein per scoop. A lot more than just a cup of regular chicken broth. I'm at the mushie stage now, so I add it to mashed potatoes and blended Soups to increase the protein count. You can order it online at unjury.com

I get my protein in by drinking Isopure Protein Drinks as well. My favorite is Apple Melon and Peach Mango. I also add some crystal light to it to give it a kool-aid mixed flavor:biggrin:..I get mines from Vitamin World.

  6. okay...I was banded on the 16th...everything was awesome in the hospital...went home on wednesday...and now today I feel awful! I am nauseated, weak, and just feel yucky. I'm not on pain meds...I have followed the post-op diet to a tee and yet I am misrable!!! Help!!!:)

    Hi!

I also live in Lewisville and was banded at Baylor Grapevine on the 18th!!! My MD allowing me sf Jello, sf pudding, Protein shakes, etc. for the first 2 weeks but I am already tired of those!!!:) I have it in my head this is only for a short while so I will deal with it.. Trust me, we will survive and will look back and be like "it was all so worth it"!!!

Which hospital did you have your surgery??

  7. This is for all the people getting banded on June 18th:

GOOD LUCK!!! We're going in tomorrow for our bands :w00t: I can't wait to hear how everyone is doing when you get a chance to check in after surgery. I hope that everyone is safe and not in too much pain for the next few days.

    Keep in touch! :w00t:

Good luck on tomorrow! They moved my surgery time from 7:15am to 9:45am. That's ok though.

Wishing you and everyone else the best on your journeys!:blushing:

  8. Juliansmom2003-

Thanks! Like you, I want to lose 80-90 lbs as well. If I can get down to 125 that would be awesome too!!! Although statistics say LB patients lose about 50% of their excess weight, losing more than that isn't unrealistic...I've already set my mind to claiming 130-140 as my goal and I can already see it!!!

You are so right-- this board is wonderful and truly a blessing to people!! It helps to have great support behind you..

Good luck and much success on your journey!!!

  9. Hi Questions09-

Luckily I didn't have to do the 3 month supervised diet. In actuality, my insurance didn't require much of anything as far as requirements- their only criteria were 18yrs of age, BMI of 35.5 with 1 co-morbidities or BMI of 40, and a psych evaluation.

The only thing left for me to take care of is the cardiac clearance and I am going to my primary doctor Tuesday morning to get that taken care of.

Whew! It;s becoming 'real' as the date gets closer. Be sure to keep us posted and best of luck in your process!

  10. Thanks for the encouragement. I would have had surgery sooner but I had to get the CPAP machine and I have to be on that 2wks prior to surgery. I go in for Pre-Op nursing, pre-op nutrition class#3, and pre-op consult with surgeon on Tuesday, June 2nd. My pre-op with the hospital is on June 16th. Things seem to be picking up pretty quick now and I am looking forward to the NEW me!!:)

  11. Hi-

I am a newbie but please add me to the list... I put an introduction in the Introduction forum. My surgery date is June 18th with Dr. Michael Green at Baylor Grapevine in Grapevine, TX. I go in on 6/2/09 to do my Pre-Op nursing, Pre-Op Nutrition #3, and my Pre-Op with the surgeon. I guess they will let me know about the 2 week pre-op diet.

I am sooooooooooooo excited :) and looking forward to sharing tips, ideas, or whatever it may be with everyone!

  12. Hi Everyone!

I have been following this forum for quite a while and now would like to finally introduce myself. I am 30 years old, 5'1, and weigh 230 pounds. My highest weight was 250 which was in August 2008 and 9 months pregnant and my lowest was 130 which was about ummm let's see--maybe 8 years ago. I have a surgery date of June 18th and I am soo excited!!

I haven't been banded yet and I am already addicted to this board because of the motivation, inspiration, and wonderful information through out! Great group of people.

Just wanted to stop through and say "thanks" to my new family for the inspiration you have provided and "many thanks" for the future threads because I know I will be relying on this board to help me through my journey...

Take care and much success to everyone on their journey!
