Well, I started feeling symptoms of my kids' cold around Thursday night--right after my pre-op appt. Saturday was my worst day--I had a hard time getting out of bed. Upper respiratory issues, cough and stuffy nose, feeling run down. Fever not bad--around 101. So, yesterday I was feeling blah but not awful--and today I'm the same way, with a slight fever (99-100) but overall very weak and tired. My surgery is on Wednesday. My husband thinks I should wait until tomorrow to see if I feel like I am on the mend before calling the dr's office. What do y'all think? It doesn't sound like a good idea to do surgery if your immune system is weak. However, if I'm getting better....surely it won't be a problem...(can you tell I really, really do NOT want to reschedule?)?

I can understand your frustration, however, you have to be able to see what is going on with your body right now. It is fighting you tooth and nail, and if you had any trouble losing weight before surgery, you can bet your sweet bippy that your body will make sure it puts up its best resistance now. Your metabolism is freaking out right now, because suddenly, out of the blue, you are on a VERY small amount of calories. In the real world, that's called starvation, and to your body, it means conserve every bit. So, in order to do that, metabolism has to sloooooowwwww way down. Now, if you're walking or incorporating exercise into your day, your body is quickly going to figure out that you are not in "hibernation mode" and will look to your fat cells for fuel in order for you to have energy to exercise. Then you will begin to see a more steady pattern of weight loss. This is a process that takes time and patience. We did not lose weight easily BEFORE the band, we should not expect to do so right away after. You will begin losing weight, it may be slow but you will. My doc said it's not so much the calories as when you eat them. Three meals and NO SNACKING or grazing. He said people who follow that have the most success. Good luck!! You will do fine I am sure!!

The good news is...no fever this morning. The bad news is I'm still congested and have a cough. I am calling the dr's office here in about 20 minutes, so we'll see what they say.

Wow. I am SO sorry all that happened to you! What a nightmare. I just KNOW, though, because you are typing right now, you're getting better, and each day will bring a renewed spirit. And YES! In 6 months, you'll be typing about your billionth weight loss milestone. BIG HUGS!!

I posted in the questions forum and got a response from Alex: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/124510-posts-disappearing/page__gopid__1573031#entry1573031 basically, he said it was a problem for a 16 hour period and that it was hopefully resolved! So yay!

Hoping all went well!! -
We've had several posts simply "disappear" in the Feb 2011 Bandster forum...also, posts will be cut off after only a few sentences. What's the dealie-O? This is getting really, really frustrating.

Thank you Alex for responding!

Okay, where in the he*l is the rest of my post??!!! This is getting VERY irritating!! There was a lot more than just "I'm so tired"!!! Grrrrrrrr!!! Can't the admins here get it together??

I'm afraid it's that "American" type of eating that got a lot of us in this boat to begin with! LOL!! So I'll have to be a different kind of American, like the kind from the early 20th century. No fluffy foods!! (those are foods that make me "fluffy"!!)

Good luck!!

Wow, Elle, I am really sorry. That is horrible! I hope it all gets worked out though. I was reading either here or on a blog somewhere about this person that went through a series of delays and they thought, wow, maybe this is God telling me "don't do it", but they went ahead and they were SO glad they did. So just think how much sweeter this will all be when you are done with surgery and losing weight! I don't sense by your post that you're even considering giving up, but I just wanted to encourage you anyway!

Hey Elle! My latest post must have been a casualty in the big post loss from this month. I, too, am keeping my original date! So it's all good! I understand about it being an eye-opener. I think it just reinforces the idea that ultimately, it's our own strength that will get us through this journey and lead us to success. I think just based on what you said here that you are MORE than ready and will do great!

Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies

Thank you so much for posting that, bigtom. I am definitely getting it! -
I feel just like you! I am not emotional, in fact, aside from my initial anxiety, I've been downright indifferent myself and have felt like an observer too. I think that must have to do with the multiple times I have been disappointed in my life after being excited about a diet, exercising, etc...and now I'm looking at this with a....I dunno...realism I never expected. This is serious business, this surgery. It's hard to get excited about it when I know the mental steps it took for me to get here. I am sure that once I start fitting into pants in my closet that haven't seen my hips in 5 years, I'll begin to get excited. Maybe.

I have no idea! That is messed up!

Elle! I am so sorry. That is a big bummer, I know. You won't believe this, but I have to call my doc's office tomorrow to see if I can reschedule mine to the 23rd because my sister called me last night to tell me she was not going to be able to come down the week of the 16th. Niiiiice. Not her fault, but still....urgh. So, we might be banded on the same day! You never know!!

What type of pre-op diet are you on, and how are you doing?
TexasMama replied to Elle23's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Elle! Well, I grew up in Kingwood, my husband grew up in Angleton, but for the past 20 years I have stayed on the west side. When my husband and I got married in 2001 we bought a condo in Memorial near Town and Country, and we stayed there until September of 2009 when we moved here. We LOVE Clear Lake and the area. We are big boating fans and always saw ourselves being close to the Water, so this has been an adjustment for us. There are lakes around though, and some beautiful rivers, so that's definitely a bonus!! You know, I wanted to say that if you are feeling tired, it could be because your body is starting to use itself as fuel. I remember back on Atkins when that happened. I became super sluggish around day 2 or 3, but usually got a huge surge of energy around day 4 or 5. I don't really know why. Anyway, you might want to get some Ketostix (just ask for them at the pharmacy desk) and check several times a day to see if you're in ketosis, which means you're burning FAT! :-) Yay! -

Hey Elle! We came to San Antonio from Houston just over a year ago! Hubby and I both were raised there. We miss it soooo much, but we are enjoying San Antonio.
