  1. A couple weeks ago I woke up with this excruciating pain in my chest (like the diaphragm area, right under my breasts) that spand the width of my chest. It was like this super tight painful feeling and I couldn't breathe, I was basically hyperventilating. I thought at first it was heartburn but It was like 10 times worse than that, and it took like an hour to finally pass. It felt like something was stuck in my pouch or soemthing and like I needed to throw it up but I couldn't. I have had 4 fills and have never had a problem eating any kinds of food. Then today it happened again and idk what to do or what it is! I cant see the Dr for another few days and I'm really worried. Also idk if this has anything to do with it but lately I have been hungry all the time and actually think i am gaining weight. I just dont know what to do.:( Please help??

  2. Maybe he is just worried about how the whole thing will affect your relationship and how you two relate to each other. I know its not exactly the same situation, but when I was considering getting the lap band my sister, who is also overweight, was really against it and didn't want me to do it. We're really close, so I know that part of it was worry that something could go wrong period, but I know that she was also worried about how it would change things with us. Like would we still be close? How would we really relate now that we aren't really going to share the same problems? I knew that because I felt the same way. So maybe it's that he is worried about where he will stand once you're done going through this major life transformation. Hope things work out for you

  3. My post op diet was like yours, I started the first couple days with liquid but then moved on to the mushy diet. My surgeon told me that whatever I could handle, I could eat. It was basically up to my body to tell me what kind of diet to have. Since i never had a problem with any foods I was eating meat by the middle of the second week and then I went back to eating like normal from then on. He said the same thing about caffiene and carbonated drinks. If I could handle it then go for it. He just asked that I eat healthy and avoid high calorie drinks. So yea I guess it depends on the surgeon, and the patient of course.

  4. I donate. My mom grew up during the depression and almost didn't get to graduate from high school because she didn't have any clothing to wear. A family member who was better off gave her 2 old dresses and she wore one and washed the other every day. She told me about that one day when I was a grown up and from then on I don't ever sell my clothes. They are given...to a friend, or to a charity.

Aww that's an inspiriring story:smile2:. I donate mine to Goodwill because when I was little my mom had a hard time being a single mom of three so we often had to go there for new clothes. I know it was a lot easier for her buying pants for all of us for a couple dollars rather than 10 or 15 bucks a pair at Walmart. Also because plus sizes are so expensive, and there they can be bought by people who have been in this position but dont have alot of money to go to places like Lane Bryant.

  5. I am also interested - I have my tonsillectomy and lap band set for June 18 - wondering how they will work out together... I am so excited, but also fearful of the tonsillectomy - I am hoping that by doing both at the same time it is one time under, one time on pain meds, and one set of time off work - also I think the diet (or lack there of) will match up well for both- my surgeon has done a band and tonsils together once before - my ENT will do the tonsils and my surgeon with do the band... eekks!

Lol idk how that will go but it sounds like it would be easier to me. For one you will probably be so focused on the pain from the tonsillectomy you wont notice the pain from the WLS (which isnt that bad anyways). Plus since you can't really eat solid food after the tonsillectomy the diets are the same, not that you will be that hungry anyways, pain is a good appetite suppressor! Hope your recovery goes better than mine and good luck with everything!:(

  6. I'm with all the people that say being the one that gets hit on instead of being the fat friend!

And being able to shop wherever I want, especially Victoria's secret

Having a decent sized butt lol

Hopefully being able to wear smaller shoes cause i love shoes and can never find them in my size!

and probably hundreds of other things...

  7. OMG, if I thought the pain from the gas after the WLS was bad, I was soooo wrong. I'm 5 days post op after my tonsillectomy and all I can say is "OMG I think I'm dying!", this is the most horrible pain I have ever experienced:sad:! My throat hurts, my neck hurts, my jaw, tongue, head and ears hurt! Plus it feels like im swallowing around a knife. But the reason I post this is because I'm losing alot of weight due to not being able to eat, so basically I'm starving here. Think I will gain it back once I can eat again? Like when you yo yo diet how you always gain it back after returning to eating normal. Just seeing if there are any other people that have shared my pain or have any thoughts on the weight loss.

ps: if you have kids that have chronic tonsil problems, get them removed while they are young! its 20 times worse for adults and recovery is twice as long.

  8. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any toning exercises (to help prevent the sagging skin) that could be done at home? I'm still just starting to lose and not really ready to head to the gym yet and work out in front of people so I've just been working out at home. Should I even be worrying about toning yet?

  9. Well for one I agree with Steve, most guys this age are so shallow and just looking for fun! Frustrating. Secondly, I know how that feels and it sucks being the "fat girl" or the "fat friend" but like Bek1986 said its about confidence. How do I know that? Because my sister is about as big as I am but sooo much more confident and sure of herself than I am and she gets all the guys plus tons of friends! It's kind of annoying being outshone by your little sister lol. But hopefully my self confidence wil rise as I lose weight and I can start getting out there again.

  10. Hey I;m from Bakersfield too. I was banded on april 15. Everything has been going great, but I would like a couple more fills before getting to the point of eating and living normally with just a few changes thrown in. So how has everyone been doing? what kids of stuff have you been doing around bako?

  11. Not a huge one but today I found my old senior shirt from high school and thought hmmm, I wonder if that would fit? Now it barely fit then and that was 3 years ago so I was shocked when I SLIPPED it on! I didnt have to tug or stretch or anything, it just fit! It was exciting and gave me a big boost!

  12. I can totally relate!

Another thing I hate is when I'm going out for the day, feeling really good about myself and then see my reflection in a window or something while I'm out.....who the fk is that fat ass because it isn't me!!

Haha yea when that happens to me like, walking to my surgeons office that had walled mirrors and Mirrior tiles (like they were trying to tell you "see?? 360 degree view here, you need to lose weight!" lol) and walking in front of something that big and can show my whole body is like, ugh disgusting. I'm just like *cover face so I cant see mirror* "Look away, look away!!" But it gets easier now since ive started losing weight. Cause i can see the diffrences, even though they are small. But they are enough for me to not cower away from the mirror! lol

  13. I was borderline hypertensive before I got banded and my BP even got up into the 170/110's! My Dr. decided not to put me on any meds because he was hoping I could get the surgery and that would help. A couple days ago I had two Dr.s appts within a couple days of each other and each time (which was a month after surgery and 20 lbs lost) my BP was steady in the 120/80's. Hopefully it goes the same for you, good luck!

  14. YES!! I generally only allow pictures from the boobs up and on the rare occasion someone captures more than that... I am disgusted!!

Hopefully by next summer someone will be able to capture me in a bikini and I won't throw up when I see it!!! :scared2:

Lol sounds just like me, I am the same exact way! It's just horrible to see cause then you're like... "so that's what everyone else sees when they look at me?" Ugh can't wait till I can actually take full body pics and like them!

  15. Just a random train of thought here but... has anyone ever gone through life just knowing and thinking "well yea I'm fat but I don't think I'm that big". Then suddenly out of of no where you see a picture of yourself and you're just like "OMG :hurray: who is that person!?!" Yea not so fun... lol. Oh well those days will be over soon hopefully! :grouphug:

  16. I know what you mean, I was hungry a few days in and was not liking the liquid diet! It wasn't keeping me full and I was hungry all the time! so yea I'm pretty sure it's normal. But a week and a couple days after surgery I talked to my physician and he said that If i was tolerating the mushie food well then I could try going for solid food even meat. So first thing I did was went and bought a taco from taco bell (lol bad on me I know)! It went down fine and I was good from there, but it's all different for everyone and you just have to talk to your Dr. about whats ok for you.

  17. I've just started using Stevia. Purchased a box of 200 packets at Sam's Club for about $10. I find it to be sweeter than Truvia and no after taste. Also Aspartame and Splenda play heck with my bladder :grouphug: giving me spasms while Stevia does not.

Do you know if Sams Club is the only place that sells Stevia? Because I love sweetened tea but can't drink it because of the no sugar rule and because I HATE splenda! It has the worst aftertaste. So I would love to try the Stevia, but I'm not even sure if we have a Sams Club here haha. So any ideas where else they might sell it?

  18. Ok, thanks for all the help! I was just hoping that things wouldn't be so out of wack once my body got down to a healthy weight. Guess now I have one more thing to look forward to lol. Thanks ;)

  19. Have you ever been diagnosed with PCOS?

Symptoms include:excess weight (especially around the middle), irregular periods/infertility/miscarriages/heavy periods, excess facial hair, thinning hair/mail pattern Hair loss, cystic acne, skin tags, depression/mood swings, ovarian cysts/ovarian pain, insulin resistance.

It affects woman differently so you could have a few or all of the above symptoms. Fasting glucose test is the best way to be diagnosed and an endocrinologist is the best type of doc to see for it. Some do treat the symptoms with birth control but to treat the root cause the best treatment is insulin sensitising drugs. Weight loss is possible with the condition but it may be more difficult and you definitley have to watch starches and sugars. If you have a few of the above symptoms you should be tested because if you do have it, the type of food you eat will be an important factor in sucess with your your band.

But to answer your question, I have PCOS. I had most all of the above symptoms and I was on Metformin for five years and that helped to regulate my cycles and keep most of the symptoms under control. Since shortly after surgery I came off the medication and have normal 28-day cycles and most of the symptoms have gone away 100%.

No I don't think I've ever been tested for that, and don't really have any of those symptoms except for the irregular periods. But my sister is also overweight and has the same problem with her periods, so that's why I'm wondering if maybe it's because of our weight? And kind of hoping it evens out as I lose weight.

  20. So I'm wondering if losing weight affects your periods, or if irregularity of periods can be caused by being overweight? Since I started mine when I was 13 they have been REALLY irregular. I would either not have one for months and months or I would have one that lasted for months! Because of this I got on birth control to keep them regular and have been on it since I was 15. Even now if i stop taking the birth control for a couple months, I don't see a period until I start the BC again. So are there any that have been in the same situation? And if so, did your periods become regular or what?

  21. Omg I am definately in the same place! I avoid guys because I'm always afraid that they're are thinking horrible things about how I look, and thats because I'M always thinking horrible things about how I look! But now that I've done something about my weight Ive decided that this is for ME not for them, and am hoping that as I lose the weight I will become more confident because I LIKE how I look. And hopefully when I can appreciate myself, guys can too. Also if you have to dumb yourself down for a guy, he must be pretty dumb himself! Talk about boring! Haha, good luck!
