  1. I start my 2 week CLEAR liquid diet next Friday. Found this recipe that sound pretty good and get some extra Vitamins in before surgery to help with healing.... Oh, and I already love miso Soup, so got plenty of that on hand...

Veggie broth: 1 tbsp. salt, 2 onions chunked, 3 carrot chunked, 3 turnips chunked, 2 parsnips chunked, 12 cloves garlic, 1 leek thinly cut, 3/4 tsp. tumeric, parsley and dill to taste. Put in large stock pot with 3-4 qts. Water. Boil, then drop to simmering for 2 hours.. Can be frozen...

  2. In no way did I mean his actions and words are exceptable, for they are not. I simply was offering another point of view about his possible feelings: feelings he isnt voicing. Do I see he has a problem? Of course, which is why I said she shouldnt stay big for him and that if he didnt like it he could walk....

  3. Ok, so I will play the devils advocate for a moment..Prehaps he is a man who likes a little cushioning on his woman. I am married to a man just like that. I thought I had done a great job hiding my shape and size, but nope, not at all, he saw every inch and flaw. He has always told me whatever I want to do regarding my weight is fine, he has never "blackmailed" me into staying fat this long, thats all been my choice.

But just the other day he told me he was getting concerned about the affects my weight was having on my health (none yet) and was scared something would happen if I had surgery and if I didnt have it.

Now, by no means am I saying stay big for you bf. You need to do what you need to do for yourself. And if he cant handle it, he can walk on down the line...

  4. Wow, what a strange doctor...Every doctor I have ever seen, military or civilian, the first words outta their mouths are "So, you know you are morbidly obese, right?":rolleyes2: Ya think?

The first time my pcm saw me here, the first words outta her mouth were "So, have you considered WLS?"

I agree with pp, get a second opinion, you dont need your pcp backing, you just need a referal...

  5. Wow, what crappy news for you!!! Most of us on here can not tell you if banding is the answer for you or not. First, you need to check with your insurance if its covered, or your finances if you need to self pay. Researching the band is pretty easy and you can get most of your answers quite easily. If you are over weight and fall into the guidelines (bmi 35-40) then yes, losing weight will help your diabetes, even if it only lowers the amount of insulin needed. As for the rest of what you asked, if you search you will find what you looking for in forums here...

For me it took about 3 months to the day to get my approval. However, Tricare doesnt require any pre-op dieting to qualify....

    Good luck to you!

  6. Stretching might be true, but what was explained to me was that fluids help wash the food outta the pouch sooner, therefore making you hungry sooner.. and then you dont lose weight as fast as you would if you didnt eat and drink... But I wasnt told anything about stretching if I did drink, I was told stretching would happen if I over ate....

Wish me luck, cuz I know this is gonna be a problem for me too....:tongue2:

  7. Ok, all you all and getting to eat on pre-ops just stink, lol! I am wishin that all docs followed the same procedure...

Start my pre-op July 10th. If I can see through it, I can have it providing its sugar free. My only dairy is from the milk to mix my Protein shake up (3 a day) and my only solids are sf Jello and popsicles.... This is gonna suck..Did I mention I have a teenage son that eats ALL THE TIME???

Good luck on your pre-ops!! Keep up the good work and stay strong!

  8. I quit in January after smoking since high school, about a pack in 24 hrs. I quit becuz its was time and I wanted too, not becuz I had to quit for a surgery or anything... I haven't even slipped up and this is what I did, hope it helps...

    1. pick a quit date and stick to it, during a not so stressful time

    2. decide you want to do this for yourself

    3. I timed it so that I smoked my last cig as I was going to bed (a normal thing for me) and truly, I said good-bye to my faithful friend. I took my time, enjoyed every puff.... Then I threw away my empty pack and lighter....

My withdrawals weren't too bad, my kids were my biggest cheerleaders. And it was WONDERFUL to see them look at me with pride becuz I was quitting instead of crabbin and me for smoking...

Now, just 5 months later, my lungs tested great in my pulmo testing, no damage at all.. And wow, smokers really smell like smoke, I never smelt the smoke on myself...

    Good luck!!!!

  9. I am excited they approved me and would have gone postal if they hadn't. The fact that I have 135 lbs to lose is a pretty good indication that I am REALLY overweight. My blood work showed a barely functioning thyroid so slow metabolism (ya think?) And I am in the stages right before being told I am pre-diabetes....

Here in New Orleans our base medical facilities isn't large enough to take dependents, so I am out in town. Dr. Richardson at Oschner is doing it. I have had some really painful tummy surgeries, so I am looking forward to not being knocked out on painkillers for a couple of weeks, so thanks for the heads up. I gotta get better quick, hubby has duty the day after I get home from the hospital. But my kids are older (13,10,7) so I am sure I will be fine.

Oh and a friend is making my medical id Bracelet for me..I am ready to get busy getting healthier!

  10. As of today I have finished all my testing and my psych eval. I am sane enough to become thin, got a small haital hernia that will be fixed during surgery and I have an underactive thyroid thats barely functioning (ya think?!?!?!?)

The best news is after smoking a pack a day for 17 yrs. I have no lung damage other than I have asthma. I said good-bye to my menthol friends for good on January 24th cold turkey. I miss them dearly, but am better off without them.......

Paperwork is getting submitted on June 17th to Tricare for approval. Everyone sees nothing that Tricare would deny me banding, especially with my newly found underactive thyroid. And now the waiting begins.....

  11. I also am not banded yet, but just wanted to add my thoughts. The only thing I am trying to do to get used to my new life after band is trying to not drink when eating (thats hard!), and trying to eat Protein first and making healthier eating choices. Oh, and those darn Protein shakes...

I know that I will struggle with my eating choices and diet habits, even after getting the band. And while I know I have to eat healthier and all that, I also know that if I slip and make a mistake, it will be a much smaller mistake then before the band. I know that the struggle with the band is nothing compared to struggling my whole life with my weight.... This will be easier than the hell I have been living in...

  12. I have not been banded YET, but I have plenty of experience with over eating and comfort eating. Should you have done it? Nope. But you can't undo it either. All you can do is say "whoops" and get going again. You sister might not believe you needed the band, but its not her body, her habits or her health. You did what you felt you needed to do to lose the weight and get healthy. Its seems like you have lost a tremendous amount of weight already if I read correctly. Keep in mind that it takes time for your mind to catch up to how your body is after losing weight....

With that said, sounds like you need a fill if you can overeat too much. From what I have read thus far, if you overeat it causes alot of pain and discomfort...

Don't spend any more time comparing yourself to your sister who doesn't have your same issues. Instead, concentrate that time on working hard with your band and before you know it, you will be skinny. You didn't get here overnight, it takes time to lose the weight as well...

    Best of luck to you..
