LOL the funny, thing is, it wasn't even my idea. One of the supervisors that reports me suggested it. I told her that was an excellent idea! :frown:

All I can say is that I had mine at the age of 37. If I could go back in time (and lap band was available then) I would do it in a heartbeat. I missed so much fun and killed my self esteem by being obese all my teenage and adult life. I had a good life, but I wonder how much better is could have been. I wish you the best on yours and the best for your son.

Just get with your HR department. If its medic, you can take a medical leave if you have been on the job long enough (at least in Texas) I am taking a medical leave. I will get paid "sick" time for the first 5 days and then short term disability kicks in until I return.
  4. Great news, sounds like you may be aver the hump. Best of luck :frown:

I know, I am getting paranoid about it. I work in a call center and we have a LOT of people sick right now. I went and purchased Lysol spray and wifes and hand sanitizer for the whole department on my company card yesterday. I told everyone that I refused to let them get me sick and postpone things LOL

Congrats. I think your doing the right thing. Stats show that us obese people who loose weight will regain more than 90% of the time. THe band will be help you keep it off. Its done wonders for me :hurray: Congrats. Good luck on your upcoming surgery

Harley - Glad you are doing so well. I hope mine goes so well  I have to thank Nina again for pointing me to Make me heal. Its a great site and I have learned a lot from the boards. There are a couple of guys there, but I think I am the only one who actively posts. You all got me comfortable enough to hang out and discuss these type of things with you ladies :hurray: One thing I heard over there was using anti-bacterial soap before surgery. They say it helps prevent post op infection, not guarnteed, but helps. Makes sense to me

Tami - Do you have to get clearance from your PCP before your PS will perform your surgery?

I went for my pro-op testing this morning. SHould get results back tomorrow or Thursday at the latest. My PCP was very cool about it and acted pleased that I was doing it. He told before he left the room: "See you in a size 32".

I went to "The Vitamin Shoppe" today and was able to find Bromeliain and Arnica Montana. I also picked up a bottle of "Antioxidant Cocktail" - Green Tea, Grape seed and Pine bark extracts. I heard that antioxidants were good for recovery too. Pre op testing in the morning and then I pray bloodwork comes back ok. THen I am set My Dr did not require me to come see her pre op. I saw her for my consultation , but that was a while back. Does that sound strange. The coordinator said that it wasn't necessary unless I really wanted to. She would see me the morning of my surgery to mark me. Just checking to see what everyone else is going through.

Welcome to all the new guys!
  19. Hi all. I just realized I have not been updateing this thread. I have been updating my progress on the February PS thread. I will recap here too. Well, tomorrow I will be only 2 weeks until surgery. I can't beleive how time has flown by. I was denied insurance coverage. I figured thats what the outcome would be, but still a little disappointed. I was hoping not to have to pay for it. I go for my pre-op testing on Tuesday, so that will be good and make it seam even more real. I amde an account at Make Me Heal, the link is in my signature. I posted pre op pics there and will update post op as well

Glad I am not the only one! I am struggling mightily on this one. I have even gained a few. I am going to start today trying to loose a few in the next couple of weeks. My mind keeps telling myself that it will be ok, cause if I gain, they will just cut it off! I know darn good and well I need to loose a few to get maximum results, but the mind a powerfull.

My Pre op got moved to Tuesday. My PS is helping me save $$$. Since I got the insurance denial, she said the pre op testing probably wouldn't be covered either. So she is letting get a physical from my regular Dr and fax the results over to her. Had I gone through the hospital it would have been an additional $975, but through my Regular Dr, I will only have to pay my $30 co-pay. So that was nice of her in helping me trim costs.

I got my insurance info back today and it was denied. I figured thats the decision they would make. So, I am going forward as a self pay. I am not going to appeal, but I am going to write a letter to tell them how I feel. Even though I don't get rashes, I do have significant muscle seperation and psychologically need this done. I still don't consider it cosmetic -- it is reconstructive. I will be nice and thank them for being so good with approving WLS - UHC was a breeze to work with. But I am going to point out that not allowing this, it is like only allowing me to complete a portion of my journey.
  23. See, I understand that reasoning, even if we don't agree.
  24. ok, that just seems like an odd defense to me. I can even understand the the argument about life beginning at conception. I personally feel it does, but understand it is my beliefs and religious teachings that lead me to believe that. I can certainly see how those that don't share my religious beliefs would not believe in life at conception. I do have an issue if the fetus has any chance of life outside the womb to be disposed of. Who are we to play God and say a baby only has a 1 in 4 chance to survive, so they don't get the chance. Edit to add: I am having surgery in several weeks. I would hope if something goes bad and I have a 40% chance to survive, my wife doesn't pull the plug because I am not "viable"
