May 2006 Band Crew ~ August Chat

Happy August May bandsters. I just hit (well, 1/2 a pound from it) my halfway goal. Did not think I would be this far along after 3 months. Hope everyone has a great week! <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    Weigh In Corner

just thought I would chime in. I almost hit the half way point this morning at my weigh in. 70 pounds in 3 months. Thought I was slowing down last week, but really push myself in the gym and lost 5 this week.

    80% Divorce Rate!!!!!!!!!

I have a hard time beleiving 80%, but I am sure it is higher than average. This has been talked about a little in this thread, but I think a lot of us when we are heavy, settle for "what we can get". I am married for the second time. My divorce was was prior to WLS, but I fought hard to keep my ex from going through with the divorce because I didn't think I could do any better. Looking back, I was sooooooo wrong about that assumption. I think as we loose, our confidence raises and we are no longer willing to settle for the same things. That being said, my second marraige is awsome and can not imagine life without my wife. I don't feel in the least that I settled with her. Just my 2 cents.

    Piercings?

I had both nipples peirced, but had to take them out a couple of years ago. I had a couple of MRI's done on consecutive days and had to take them out for them. They went back in (barely) after the first one, but closed too fast after the second one in two days. I also had my tongue pierced for 3 days. lol. I work in a call center, and at the time I was being observed for a possible promotion. I had it done on a Friday thinking that by Monday I would be ok. Sunday night, it was still so swollen I couldn't talk normally and decided to take it out because I didn't want to lose the opportunity for the promotion. The nipples hurts pretty good, but the tongue didn't hurt. Just swelled pretty bad. Don't feel like re-doing either of them, but I am glad I did it and would do it again if I had to go back in time.

What type of aftercare is helpful

I had my first post op visit at 6 weeks and have been back to 2 fills. $15 co-pay each time. I did not have any external stitches. I was put back together with skin glue and liquid bandage. Vey little scaring. I have over a dozen people at my work who have had WLS, so I have a built in support group. That's about it.
  11. My PCP had nothing to do with my surgery. I went for a consult with my bariatric surgeon and had surgery 5 weeks later without the assistance of my PCP. I did not even deal with my insurance company (United Health Care), Dr Cribbens office did all the work. No problems at all. Guess I am lucky.

    Biggest Loser Column

Counting calories gives me a headache! Wish I had the disipline for sure, it does take the guesswork out of everything. My solution is to just not eat the cheesecake.

Does Lap-Band help with emotional eating?

It helped me. Everytime I think eating when I shouldn't, I think about having the band and that I don't want to fail at this and I get over the urge. Maybe not typical, but it works for me.

    If you like impressions...

Funny - My wife and I have seen Frank several times at the Improve here in Dallas. He is great!
  16. Of all my friends I have or have had in the past. I only know of one who cheated. I know the average is a little higher than that, but 80%? Damn that is a lot. My philosophy is that if it gets to the point I feel the need to cheat on my wife, I would get out of the marraige first. And it has never gotten to that point. I am in my second marraige, but infidelity was not part of the equation.

    Non - Scale Goals:

OK, tell us about your non - scale goals. I have several, but a funny one of mine is: I have a pair of pants I have had since I think I was a Jr. in high School. I was wearing 38s at the time, so I bought a size 36 and was going to try to loose down to them. Needless to say I never did and was wearing 54s at the time of my banding. I don't know why I still have them, but I found them when I brought down smaller cloths from the attic a couple of weekends ago. They are so dated ( mid 1980s). They are acid washed denim with pleats and tapered to the point that its hard to get my feet through the bottom leg holes. As out of style as they are, when ( not if) I get down to a 36, I am going to wear them so proudly even as outdated as they are!.
  18. 2 marraiges, no infidelity.
  19. Then again, now that I think about it, they may get less use now that I am losing weight, because we will be able to do more and explore more!
  20. As a guy, I really get into the toy thing. Love to use them on the wife and watch her use them!
  21. Telly and Funny - I need you two to have a talk with my wife so she can be a freak like you two. That would be awsome!

    Non - Scale Goals:

Funny - Thats a great goal, you'll be there before you know it!
  23. Please take this for what it is. I am a fast looser and was wondering if it possible to loose too fast? I am not bragging or anything, just wondering if I loose to fast, will I have problems. Like will I have baggier skin because I am not giving my skin time to recover etc. Thanks for the input.
