    Jumping on the scale

I don't own a scale, so I can't weigh in...only when I go to someone else's house who has a scale! That way I don't obsess with the number.
  2. And in alot of pain. :-( Port site and also gas pain, which I amtrying to walk off, but doesnt seem to be doing alot.
  3. I am scheduled to be banded next Monday, on the 18th. I didn't have a pre-op diet, but the only thing I can't do is take any anti-inflamatory meds 7 days prior. Well unfortunately I got my period today and I always overdose on naproxen during the first day to control my terrible cramps. But now I can't, so I am just lying in bed moaning and using my laptop as a heating pad. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!
  4. Really?! I hadnt read that. ugh.
  5. I am familiar with medifast, but haven't heard of Optifast before. Where do you get their shakes? What kind of Protein shakes do people reccommend? I also posted this link in the pre-op section as I haven't had surgery yet (May 18th!), but I want to stock up on something ahead of time so I am prepared. Thanks!

  7. I was just pondering this yesterday...it would be interesting to see the results of a study done on if there is a difference in the success rates of self-pay vs. insurance-pay. On one hand, people with insurance have a longer wait, are often required to prove they can stick to it with the pre-diet, and probably have better support from their medical team. But then on the other hand, spending out a big chunk of change can also be a motivator. Just pondering...
  8. I'm in the same boat...my doctor told me I don't need to do a pre-op diet and I am scheduled for May 18th. Since I am freaked out and want to make sure all is copecetic, I have been trying to do a sort of pre-op diet that I am making up. But it does make sense that the post-op would be easier if you didn't torment yourself ahead of time. Hmmm... After reading this though, no matter what I do, I will definatley do pure clear liquids for 3 days prior. Do medifast shakes count as Protein shakes?
  9. My doctor said I don't need to do the pre-op diet, but I am trying to do one anyways to make sure my liver is good and to challenge myself. I kinda wish he had told me I had to...it make it easier than trying to stick to one I am making up. I am scheduled for May 18th.
  10. I am scheduled for May 18 and I am self-pay too. And yet I'm still afraid of overeating and how it will turn out even though I am paying so much money!

    California Mayo Banditos?

I live in San Diego and am getting banded May 18th in Tijuana at Angeles Hospital. On the pre-op diet now...

    someone please help me

This is what I am so afraid of happening to me. I have been struggling with binge eating and have been meeting with a therapist for the past year but I can't control the binge eating. I am really afraid that this will be true even after I get the lap band...that I will just keep eating and then feel even worse. I don't totally know what you feel but I have been imagining it and it makes me feel awful. Have you thought of seeking counseling or entering an inpatient eating disorder facility? Rader in California has a fair amount of overeaters (alot of eating disorder places only specialize in bulemics and anorexics, but Rader is also good for overeating.)
  14. Hi there, I have a May 18th date for the surgery in Tijuana. I was told I don't need to do the pre-op diet but I have been trying to compel myself to follow some sort of diet to get revved up for compliance post surgery. I desperatly don't want to be one of those people who keep overeating and then stretch out their stomach after all is said and done. However, the past two days have been terrible eating for me and I feel like I am failing a test I was giving myself. I don't know now if it is "fantasy thinking" (as my therapist says) to think this surgery is going to help me get my weight and eating issues under control. Kinda sad today...
  15. I live in San Diego and they are closing schools down here and part of me can't help but think...really? Really? Cause the regular flu kills 36K a year, and lets see, thus far, in the US the swine flu has killed 1 toddler from MX who was getting treated in TX. Good luck Timah!

    New and feeling needy

So are you saying the pre-op diet was easier for you than the pre-op diet?
  17. Yeah I wouldn't worry about it...most cases of swine flu are mild and your chance of actually getting it is pretty low. Especially depending on where in MX you are going. For example, there are more cases in San Diego than in Tijuana right now!

    Magic Bullet

Cool- good to know. I will look into getting one. I gotta say though, when I first saw the title of your thread, I thought "magic bullet" was another type of product... ;-P
  19. Do you ever eat if you aren't hungry?
  20. Hi there, I am considering getting the surgery done in Mexico at Angeles Hospital by Dr. Carvala. I filled out the hospital paperwork and got approved for the surgery. I was also told I DON'T need to follow the pre-op diet. I am not sure why this is and am considering doing the pre-op diet anyways. Was anyone else told they don't need to do the pre-op diet? Thanks alot from a Newbie! -Pang
  21. I was wondering if everyone is on the pre-op diet for a set amount of time or if the doctor creates a schedule for each individual.
  22. Hi there, I was wondering if anybody else was in/tried Overeaters Annonymous and how the fellowship has gone along with your banding. Thanks for your input! -Pang

    Emotional Eating

Thank you everyone for all your insights. I've been in treatment for the past year and a half for binge and overeating. I'm better with the binge eating, but not to the point that I have reversed the 100 pounds I've put on due to it. I do want to get the band to help me with that but I also acknowledge that it can be viewed as a magic pill. I have been frustrated because I feel like I have been taking the hard route of facing emotions and identifying emotional eating, etc. but I am still having trouble with motivation when it comes to food choice and exercise.
  25. Hi all, I am thinking about getting the surgery done. I have discussed it with my therapist and she brought up a good point: if I am emotionally eating now, how will the surgery make any difference? I was wondering if there are any other people out there whose weight issues stemmed from emotional issues and if they could comment on this for me. Thanks so much, Pang
