  1. I am a month out. First couple weeks the weight was falling off. I lost 31 pounds!!!! I lost a little more during week 3. Granted I was on liquids but when I started soft foods during week 4 the weight came to a scrunching halt!!!:faint: Has this happened to anyone??? I am doing the 64 ounces of liquids, doing my Protein shakes and watching portions. I am walking when I can which is only about twice a week. Maybe the body is adjusting???? Urgh. :Banane27:

Thanks for any hints for a jump-start!!!

  2. Hi Kiana:

I too add my words of encouragement. I was SO depressed post-op I would lie in bed crying wondering what in the world did I do to myself. I called the clinic director of the hospital where I was banded and she was wonderful. I called with the purpose of getting a referral for a therapist but she ended up talking to me instead. We talked twice the first week and she e-mails regularly to see how I am doing. I thought I had lost my mind. I am convinced the pain meds made me delusional (my surgeon said some people see "things" on the wall with the pain med). The next two weeks post-op I had a series of crisis type situations with my family and that certainly did not help my mental state. I have now been post-op a month and while I still have those feelings of "why did I do this" here and there, I am mostly feeling up and positive. Prayer helps as well as this website. I had studied this, researched it, and really overdid the preparing for the surgery that when I ended up feeling miserable the first week it truly blindsided me!!!! I never saw the depression, nausea or delusional drugged feeling coming.

So my advice is to hang in there....miserable or not....be honest about how you feel on these pages and know you are not alone. That is a comfort!!!! People have been so nice!!! Let them be nice to you too!!!:biggrin1:

  3. Reggers:

The chocolate Sportpharma brand is delicious and has 25 gms of Protein per serving. I bought it at my local grocery store where it costs about .47 a serving. I know it comes in big cannisters so it will probably will be even cheaper. I love the Fruit drinks from protica.com but they are very expensive (almost $2.30 per). They come in a shatter proof pre-measured containers however, so they are easy to travel with. Anyone else have suggestions????

  4. Yahoo...today I started mushies and I am one happy person!!! Grits for breakfast, about 3 oz of tuna salad for lunch and egg beaters and a side of pureed carrots for dinner. Not exciting but felt like real food in my mouth. :hungry: The 30 minute pre food and 30 minute post food for liquids wait was a lot harder than I expected. I never realized how much I sip liquids while eating. Guess it will become second nature??? When??? I want it now!!! LOL

After a month post-surgery I still wonder if I am crazy to bring this banding into my life. It takes work. You really can't eat and grab or just eat whatever. It takes planning and thinking through. Again, guess it will become second nature.

I don't have an appointment for a filling but have a six week check-up at the end of the month and am sure it will be discussed then. I am so worried now that I am off of liquids my weight loss will slow to a snail's pace. I have been spoiled by losing quickly. I agree with someone else's comment that it feels like I am eating so much less .....I hope my body rememebers that and rewards itself with pounds shed.

Good luck to all July banders!!!:clap2:

  5. Hi guys....was banded 7-11-06....have said many times how appropriate I was banded on 7-11....that's probably where I got some of my bad snacking habits early in life on the way home from school....from 7-11!!!!:hungry:

Comment about port pain....me too!!!! I sleep on my side and the pain wakes me up!!! Guess something is pinching in there???? I am sorry others are having the pain but am glad I am not crazy. My big center hole is still scabby and my surgeon told me to scrub it off. Sorry, that's one direction I will not follow....ouch. :omg:

Did anyone have a negative reaction to pain med??? I thought I was hallucinating!!! Surgeon said some people see things on the wall from it. I stopped using it day 3 and went to Tylenol.

I get to start mushies this week...yahoo. One of our favorite steak houses (Lone Star) has been draining off their Soup for me so I can have a cup of broth to eat while my husband has dinner. I think that is so nice and appreciate their help!!!! I have already told them we are coming on my first mushie night to have salmon!!!

I guess if you ask - most restaurants will do what they can do to help. The surgeon I used gives us a little card to show we had surgery for special requests but so far people have been so nice. Tonight, for instance, we went out and I had french onion soup minus everything but the broth (and a little cheese which was just too hard to chew so I gave up). I imagine as more and more people have the banding restaurants will accommodate us!!!!

  6. Thanks CanadaSunshine!!!! I am hungry these past 2 days but have tried to just suck it up and know it's all in the new education of eating. I thought I knew how much food soothed all emotions but wow I never knew it would be so hard to pull myself from the dependency.

Question....how did you do the ticker thingie?? I am technically challenged!!!

  7. Hi to anyone who reads this. I started "studying" the possiblilties of banding back in January 2006 because I just couldn't come to terms with the idea of the gastric bypass. I went to a seminar, did pre-op workups and met with surgeon by April-ish. I waited until summer to have the surgery. I am three weeks out and have lost around 35ish pounds. :clap2: Am I thrilled that I had the surgery. Hmmm..no...but am I glad i did it?? Yes. I made a few mistakes going into the surgery for instance it was way too long of a wait between April and July. I was so excited at first I was flying but had time to come down and get cold feet as the date approached. I knew I had to make some major changes in my life for my health so I stuck by my commitment and had the surgery as planned. My surgeon does not require the two week liquid diet pre-op as some surgeons do. I wish I had done it. I was nauseated the entire first week, miserable and scared to throw-up and chance the band slipping. I also ended up having a fatty liver and think doing liquids ahead of time would have helped that. :phanvan So now I have been "sentenced" to four weeks of liquids and all I want to do is chew at this point. :guess But, I am hanging in and again, am glad I did the surgery. I have more energy than I have in years and that has been amazing in it's self. My insulin requirements have already been cut in half and I am off one of the diabetes meds I was on. Sooooo...hello all and good luck to all the newbies out there.
