Exercise help here, please!
The more weight I have lost the easier it has become to work out. Right now my routine is 5 x a week at least 30 min on eliptical then I do target work for another 30 to 40 mins. Like butt and thighs, or abs and arms. I don't do two days in a row of target work on the same area. I also do 30 mins of pilates once or twice a week. My gym is opening a new gym on December 18th. I want to take a spin class and do more weight work then. Right now I am just working out at home with work out dvds and my eliptical because the area my gym is in turned into a bad area. Someone got stabbed one night and I have not been back. The new building is in a much better area. Something interesting about doing target work. I don't want this to discourage anyone either! I actually look a little more flabby on my stomach. I have worked my abs to the point of almost tears so much that they are strong and toned. Now it takes A LOT of work to get my abs sore (I LOVE being sore after a workout). My abs are so tight under the fat that the fat kind of looks flabby, not smooth, kind of cottage cheesy! Oh well. As I lose more poundage it will get better. Nothing like having a six pack under fat . When I have my coworkers poke my stomach they can't believe how hard it is under the soft layer.

Crazy "what if" question related to travel....
I have to say I could have done it but I would have been tired. I don't know about riding rides that soon though.

Urinary question
I got an email I was being paged. I have lost the "urgency" to go but I think it is just plain less fat putting pressure on my bladder. Leaking is almost resolved. My stream is also more forceful, not just a trickle. I don't go as often either. I could not be happier. I was going like every hour at my heaviest. As far as the study goes my doctor has gone MIA so I don't know. My first test is supposed to be on November 30th. We will see what happens.

What should I be feeling a week and a half out?
That is all normal. The Lortab can hit your stomach like a train. Are you in pain? Do you need the pain meds? If you do and you can't keep it down then you need to get some Phenegrin (sp?) or Zofran. This will help with the nausa. I would think twice about taken Reglan. They tried to pawn that stuff off on me and I wouldn't have it. Google it. Is the Tylenol 3 in pill form? You should be crushing pills. Drug stores carry pill crushers or you can put them in a bag and go at them with the back of a spoon. Tylenol 3 does not taste good beware. But when you are in pain it doesn't matter.

3 weeks and 3 days post op STALL?
You know at first it seems like all you do is mess around with drinking, making mushie foods, trying to eat, drinking more, making mushy foods, trying to eat etc. For the first several weeks after surgery your life will probably revolve around your stomach and what it wants/needs. This gets better. I am 10 weeks out and we get along fine for the most part. We are also kind of in a routine. Also the first several weeks your stomach is still swollen and healing making it hold even less!

embarressing and kinda gross question
Thinoneday: Color me uniformed but do native americans have less hair? On subject: My face would break out really bad when I got heavy. I took Yaz to try and get it under control. I am off the Yaz and 50 lbs down and I have not had a pimple since the day before surgery. I did notice some minor style hair growth on my upper lip. I would shave it off because waxing there gave me red bumps. I just went and looked because it has been a long time and thought maybe I was sporting a stach but it is gone.

Judy's BP numbers
Yup. I understand. The BP meds make you tired when you first start taking them. That does go away though. Did you miss a pill? Sometimes your heart can get funny from missing a pill. What kind are you on do you know?

Judy's BP numbers
Oh this is great! Do you feel better also? Having your blood pressure come down should make you feel better.

Confused...
You know I never had lactose intolerance so I am not sure what the symptoms are after taking in milk products. Do things get better when you make shakes with no milk? Seetie: You need to take some powdered Fiber and drink a lot of fluids. The constipation can get serious. Trust me on this.

What should I be feeling a week and a half out?
Well for me cramps feel like my stomach is moving a dinner plate through it while twisting a towel inside. You will know when it happens. You will wish you did not eat that big piece of bread. You won't eat that big piece of bread again! Why are you throwing up? What post op meds are you throwing up? This is a little concerning because you could get dehydrated. You said when you eat anything you have to rush to the bathroom to throw up? When you say "eat" do you mean drink? or actually eating? You can pm me if needed. Previous Army, now Navy wife here sister.

depressed and can't sleep
Your hormones are going crazy. Your crutch and comfort (food) is gone. What you are feeling is normal. This was a major life change. First: I promise it gets better! This out of control, crazy, I am different now feeling will go away. Second: If you are really feeling down talk to your surgeon or make an appt to talk to a counselor. It can only help. Hey can you beg a ride from someone in your support group? Offer to pay for gas? Ask a family member to help? Get there however you can.

Confused...
Guys you are all normal! Ruby you are normal! You have no idea what your stomach is saying because it is speaking a new language and it doesn't even know what it wants right now. I remember 7 days out I felt something in my stomach. I told my husband "I think I am hungry." He was like "You don't know?". Now I do. Then I didn't know. 156 calories early on is normal. Some days on clears I had less than 100 calories in a whole day. Is your Carnation instand Breakfast the sugar free kind? Also liquids in liquids out. Many on the board have had trouble with loose stools. Edit: Oh that burning sensation? Are you on an acid blocker? You need to be. I don't think you should be having burning feelings!

how much time out of work
I had surgery on August 26th. I went back half days on Sept 9th, 10th, and 11th. I returned full time on Sept 14th. I could have gone back full time on Sept 2nd or 3rd if I was really motivated or had no vacation to use. I was not that motivated to return to work. It was also nice because for the first 2 weeks my life revolved around my stomach (what it needed, belch, Water, acid blocker, what do you want?) and getting in fluids and Protein.

Really stressing about the hair loss aspect of this...
Well. I won't sugar coat it. I have lost hair. I started losing early compared to Vegas and Chancie. I started noticing more of my hairs around the house and on my clothes 5 - 6 weeks out. Then I noticed that instead of needing two clips to put my hair up I only needed one. I cornered my husband and asked him how bad it was. He swore it was thinner but not bad. Yes you could tell the difference. 10 weeks out I am noticing short hairs! So I have new growth. To be honest I don't care if it all falls out. I feel so much better and I am not even at my goal weight yet. The trade-off was worth it. I could be wrong but I have never read or heard that the hair loss is perm unless you are always missing your Protein goals.

protein shakes-I'm going to starve!
I hate, hate, hate muscle milk. That must be some of the nastiest...... Anyway I really like Chike nutrition. GNC is ok. I love Premier Nutrition ready to drink shakes. They only make chocolate but when my stomach is in a mood this is the only thing I can drink. They sell it at costco and online. You won't starve I promise. I did 25 days on clears. I know the human body can go a long time without food! You will learn to like or at least tolerate the shakes.

3 weeks and 3 days post op STALL?
I would start recording what you are eating. Just to make sure you are not over 800 calories. It is easy to graze and take in more than you think. You need to use all your room for Protein for awhile so avoid cakes and Cookies. Also high sugar food just turns to liquid and slips right through your stomach. It does not keep you full.

Whatcha' Eating?
Chancie - Eat it! I spread mine in two slices of swiss, colby, munster, or other cheese and roll it up, lunch. I also put it on lunch meats. You can put it on crackers or pita chips too too. I also eat it straight. Some people like it on hard boiled eggs. Linda: When are you going to post pics? You always eat so good and do good with your water. You are like the model VSG'r. Yesterday: Breakfast: 8 oz steamed milk Snack: Halloween cookie! It was good Lunch: Pureed chicken with a little shredded cheddar and 1 tsp blue cheese dressing, and pureed carrots. About 5 oz in total. Took me over an hour but I wanted the carrots bad. They are so sweet and fab when pureed. Dinner: 4 oz refried beans with a sprinkle cheddar and dollap light sour cream. I didn't finish it all.

Huge disapointment
Well at least you don't have to worry about falling out of guidelines while you wait for your BP meds to be adjusted. I have a feeling we will be seeing a surgery date posted from you in early January. When is your next appt?

Extreme Dry Mouth: starting to get worried!
I have not run across one that tastes bad. Most don't have any taste at all or a slight mint flavor. Trust me it is soothing after your poor mouth has been so dry.

Fluids and Fiber - TMI story but important
I was thinking the same thing as Daisy. You just don't take in enough mass to have one everyday. I am every third day right now. That seems to work just fine for my body.

9 Months Lab results are in!

Question for the Ladies..
I was also on my period for surgery. I knew it was going to happen that way! They gave me a special throw away panty to wear and a hospital pad. I woke up without the undies and pad. I knew I was going to have a catheter though so it didn't surprise me. My hospital bed had a pad to lay on and they changed it often. Don't worry it is a normal part of being a woman. It is not the first period the nurses or O.R. staff have seen. Don't feel embarrased at all.
