    Sticking together

As the official "honorary mayo bandito" I'd consider it a privilege to get to meet all you wonderful folks. And I've never done a cruise, so that would be awesome fun!

Messed Up, No Excusses, Ate Wrong Food, Moving On!

Julie, I am so sorry for what happened to your nephew and sister. I hope that they are doing well, and that there is no further violence against your family. As for judging you, who would any of us be to judge you? You are here because you've decided to make a HUGE change in your life, and you are here for support, not criticism. Yeah, you ate something that you shouldn't have. But, you recognize it, and are able to be honest with yourself, and us, about it. This is a very important step and you should be proud of yourself that you had enough control to STOP at one bite of pizza! I mean, how likely is it that you'd have been able to do that before your band? I don't think this means you're doomed to repeat your mistakes. I think it's a good learning opportunity for you to see what your triggers are, so you can start planning how you will react more positively in the future. So Celebrate your strength, and come up with a plan for what you will do in the future when you are faced with these same temptations/urges/stress triggers. Talk to your doctor, or if you had to do a psych eval, you might even want to talk to the therapist, because they are there to help you. They can help you come up with your "plan", and work through any emotional eating issues. I wish you the very best, and take care of yourself! Juniper

    May 27th, anyone?

Hey Jamie, Glad to hear your surgery went well! I hope you continue to have a speedy recovery. Mine didn't go so well. My gallbladder was pretty sick, it seems, so they didn't put my band in. And then I had some problems after surgery, so I had to stay the night. Just got home a few hours ago, and still in a good deal of pain. Looks like it will still be a few weeks before I get my band, but at least I got the gallbladder issue taken care of, and my doc is really wonderful. Okay, time to rest. So tired... I really don't do well with anesthesia...

Thank you Melissa! Regina, Jamie... best wishes to you both. Hope to hear from you soon about your surgeries, and that you're doing well!

    so bummed...

Oh, I hope so, Amy! Dr. Hagood was very reassuring about being put to sleep. He seems so secure, and that makes me feel a lot better. But I'm following Ann's advice and thinking good thoughts... good thoughts...

    so bummed...

well, i just got back from my pre-op appointment, and the gallbladder's definitely got to come out, and he can't say for sure if he'll be able to do the band at the same time or not. it all depends on if the gb is infected, and if any "infection" leaks out when they remove it. :smile2: i'm so bummed... i've been really good on my pre-op diet, and i actually lost 15.5 pounds, and now, if he can't do the band with the gb, i'll have to wait another couple of weeks until i can go back for the band. and i'm soooo scared of being put to sleep. that's the hardest part of all of this. i don't want two surgeries! i'm trying to stay positive, and hope that it'll all work out, that he'll be able to do both at the same time, but it's gonna really suck if i have to be a juno bandito... (nothing personal to everyone getting banded in june, of course) *sigh* at least he didn't say absolutely no, right?
  8. Well, I asked my doc, and he said it would be under the skin stitches, and glue. He says he's never seen a reaction to the glue, so he thinks I'll be okay. Oh, and I asked him about putting stuff on the incisions afterwards if it itches, and he said not for the first few days, because most stuff will try to break down the glue. After a few days, I can put benadryl cream or something like that, but he still recommended not putting it directly on the glue area.

    so bummed...

Thanks so much, Ann. That does make me feel a lot better! I'm not running fever or anything, so I'm hoping it's just not working, and not infected. Crazy thing to be wishing for, it seems. I'm just so ready to get banded!!
  10. awesome!! so glad to hear you're healing well! i have a whole list of questions to ask my doc. i'm sure he's going to get a little sick of me, but then again, maybe he'll realize how serious i am about this!
  11. I go in today for my pre-op, so I'm gonna ask my doc about this. If he suggests steri-strips, I'm gonna see if they'll let me have one now to test for a reaction. I'd rather know BEFORE they put them on an open wound if I am allergic to them! I'm thinking that if he decides to take my gallbladder at the same time (which I'm hoping he will), then I might have an extra, or a bigger incision, which is the part I'm mostly concerned with at this point. Thanks for the info!

1 week post op follow up visit-SO HAPPY!

:cursing: omg... just reading that made my mouth Water... i'm still on my icky ol' pre-op diet, and even though i COULD eat some of those things, i'm sticking to my "food script". *sigh* you know, my nutritionist completely skipped over Beans when we were discussing my post-op "allowed" foods. i mentioned it, and she seemed surprised when i said that beans were soft. i guess she thought i was gonna eat them uncooked?!! :cursing:

Not for the squeamish or shy...

Kellster, If your surgeon okays the benefiber, I strongly recommend it! I've been using those little packets (since my gallbladder problems seem to have my bowels immobilized) and they work well, and you totally can't taste them! It says to do 3 a day, but I'm getting by with just 1. Then again, I've never been a daily poo'er and have a tendency to go tooooo far in the opposite direction if I start messing with my LACK of a routine, so you might do better with 2 or 3 than I would. :cursing: Hooray for fiber!!

    I feel good!

Cyndi, Ann, I'm soooo glad to hear that you guys are doing so well! It makes me a little less scared! :cursing: Here's hoping the rest of your transition goes this well!

YES!! I have those moments, too. It sucks to be fat. It sucks to not be able to eat foods I like. It sucks to not be losing weight even though I'm eating the most nutritious food ever! It sucks that I've still got 8 days until my surgery, and that my gallbladder needs to come out, and every time I eat anything, it makes me burp, and I feel nauseated all the time, and all this even with eating foods with hardly any fat in them that don't even taste good, and OH MY GOD THIS REALLY SUCKS!!! :crying: :smile2: ... ... ... okay, I feel a little better now...
  19. you know, you might want to check the niacin in it. niacin can make you flush, making you feel hotter than maybe you are. just a thought!
  20. of course, this really is the ideal time for me to learn to love the foods that are better for me, anyway. and maybe even cook at home more often! save money! lose weight! be healthier! live longer!! yeah, those kind of thoughts make me not miss those foods quite as much after all...

either way... it always makes me think of Frito Bandito... Frito Bandito - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia *laughs* omg... flashbacks to my childhood!
  23. Carriejess, That's awesome that you are able to eat whatever you want! I hope that at some point I'll be able to do the same... but I know that I have a harder time saying no to less healthy foods AFTER I've started eating them, than if I just don't eat them at all. Someday maybe I'll get to the point where I'm satisfied with just one bite of the fried macaroni and cheese. In the meantime, it's just off the list until I can control it better!
  24. *laughs* omg, so true! although, i gave up sodas several years ago, and i'm happy to say that now the idea of drinking one makes me kinda gag! and i've never had too much of a sweet tooth. but it's all those lovely foods.... rich, cheesy, creamy, spicy, carb-LADEN foods!! we like our comfort foods here in the south, and it's going to be HAAAAAARD to give up most of those things, especially when most of our social activities are built around food!
