  1. Jan.Barnett - One other thing. If your high is 318, and you are currently 218 then you have lost 100, not 93. Are the weights correct, and you have been counting down from your surgery date? We count from the highest because every pound is important. :) Let me know so that I can make sure your numbers are correct on the board. Thank you so much!

yes the the numbers are right, I have always counted from my surgery date, but you are right it was me who lost those other 8 lbs so they should count!! Thanks for pointing that out.:clap2:

  2. Okay, it is soooo time for me to get involved again! This summer has been a whirlwind for me...I started the summer at 212, went all the way back up to 220, and now I'm stabilized at 214. I have been living off of milkshakes (no, not the healthy, Protein kind...more like the Dairy Queen kind!) I have been travelling loads, so I have found that shakes fill me up without the fear of being stuck or PBing while on the road. That's plausible, but the problem is that now I've caught the sweets bug and can't seem to shake it! HELP HELP HELP!!!

(H-276/S-266/C-214/G-160) PLease update me when you get the chance!!

    Cheri,

I totaly understand!! :) I also have a sweet tooth,(actually a whole mouth full of them!!) I am in the process of getting off of sweets, I have banned all chocolate candy (I do allow myself some sugar free hard candy) I have also banned ice cream (even the low fat, sugar free) My husband and I are enjoining smoothies (2cups frozen strawberries, 1 cup skim milk and sweetnlow and equal to taste.) if you want to eat with a spoon use less milk. I also use slimfast(frozen in ice cube tray) and a hand full of strawberries with strawberry slimfast. french vanilla and some sugar free tang (1/2 of a 1 1/2 quart pack in about a cup of Water, it is kinda of like a dream sicle. Use sweet n low and equal to you taste.

I hope these ideas will help, I know once you get all the sugar out of your system it will be easier.

Let me know if you try any of these and if you like them.

  3. I too like Harry Potter, I mostly listen to books, then I can do other things like crochet, make jewelry, play on the computer. :jaw:I also like Max Lacado my favorite was "He still moves stones"

I am getting ready to listen to Done Deal by Les Standford Johnny Deal trying to salvage what is left of his family's contracting business when he runs up against some investors who will do anything and eliminate anyone who keeps them from the property they want.

I used to get my books from Audiable, but now My public Library offers free downloads of books for 21 days, After 21 days they just disapear, no late charges or trips to the library. You just have to live or work in Jefferson County. I live in Bullit County but I work in Jefferson. so I can get books. If you live in Kentucky they will let your use their service for about 25.00 a year.

Other Libries may offer this service also.

  5. Have you or do you now go to Curves for exercise? What was your experience? What is it? How much did it cost?

I'm really having a hard time finding the right time at home for my treadmill. Hubby works strange hours and it wakes him up when I'm on the treadmill.

I went to curves for a while, but I didn't like it much. My husband and I have recently joined the YMCA they offer the same set up as Curves and a lot more, We are planning to do Water exercises, they also have dance lessons, a spin class(ride a bike to music with dim lights so you don't feel so exposed.

We are also allowed the use of a Personal trainer 4 times a year to help us plan for our goals.

Our Y membership is only 53 per month no long term commitment. which is only 26-27 per person.

The biggest hurdle is my self and getting me there, I hate to exercise because I hate to sweat!!! :faint: :faint:

the Y also has a lot more hours, a sauna and whirlpool.

  6. Branded Brenda,

I don't know why you are not losing, are you still doing the things you were doing (when you were losing) before the band??

It took several fills for me to get restriction, maybe when you get another fill it will help.

Keep me posted on your progress.

  7. I was banded on Feb 20. At that time I had lost 19 presurgery pounds. I lost 9 lbs the first month and now I struggling to remain, never mind lose more weight. I've had 2 fills but I still can eat anything that I want. I know that the second fill did a little more restricting but I am still hungry. I been under much stress at work and working up to 70 hours some weeks, so my exercise has gone down the tubes. That is coming to an end and I will be back to my normal 50hours at work. I am trying to build in my exercise time and I am trying not to be discouraged. But it's hard. I am grateful that I didn't put on the 10 lbs that I usually gain during this crunch time of the year at work. I guess my major question is why does it seem more difficult now to lose weight than before the banding? Should I join weight watchers? I am just one of the turtles who will win but very slowly?

    Brenda,

I think that our expectations are so much higher with the band, we sorta of expect the weight to just fall off, but it doesn't, so I have to keep telling my self that the same effort is necessary as before, I just have limited amount damage I can do at a time, the right choices of food is the most important, and hardest thing to achieve.

Hang in there I am considering WW as well, I think they may get me back on track.

  8. I am three years out from my surgery and cannot seem to get headed in the right direction(down) I have lost between 90 and 100 lbs but have been unable to go any further. My restriction is good. I don't know if I am too tight and keep getting caught in the ice cream, chocolate binges because it is so hard to eat real food. or if I am just using this as an excuse, I was think ing of joining weight watchers to see if that would help, Has anyone use ww since banding????:omg:

  9. Hi Great Dane,

I am glad there is at least one person from my neck of the woods.

I am doing ok right now, but sometimes I struggle.

Are you on liquids or soft food?

Liquids is always the hardest for me, they just run right through, and then you are hungry again.

Let me know how you are doing.

    Nice to meet you.

  10. I have had my band for three years, and have never been involved in any type of support group.

I really need to be a part of a local support group, do :help:any of you live in or around Louisville, KY. I actually live in Shepherdsvlle.

I have got a lot of encouragement just reading a lot of your posts.

  12. I have been freezing my slim fast for some time and it is very good, however always looking for something new, I froze my strawberry and cream slim fast in a ice cube tray(yes they do still make them) one tray will hold the whole can. I put the slim fast cubes and about 4 or 5 frozen strawberries 1/2 cup of Water in my smothie maker. This is wonderful treat and lots of Vitamins too.

Let me know if you try this and if you like it.

I am 53, a natural grazer I was banded 3 years ago,(310) and have lost between 90 and 100lbs. I still need to lose about another 60 lbs. I have found that as long as I don't keep munchie foods around and especially not by my seat in the living room, just because the amount your can eat at one time is less, you can defeat the purpose by having munchies too handy.

So I guess what I am saying is that if you can look at the band as a tool and not an cure, and are willing to make the changes that you need to you will probably do ok

The band is not as fast as bypass so you will have to be patient.

The bottom line is only you can decide what is best for you.

    Good luck

  14. :peep:My name is Jan, I am 53 and I had my band surgery in June of 2002.

I have lost between 90 an 100 lbs. I keep going up and down, I made the mistake of not taking my Vitamins and was having some major cravings, but since I went back on my Vitamins I am feeling much better. I am happy to find a place to get advice and encouragement.

I read on one of the posting that you should not drink while you eat, but I drink (not a lot) is this bad for me?

Also, I have discovered that if you put slim fast in the freezer it is like eating ice cream(sorta) I also add a little equal to make it a little sweeter. The french vanilla kinda tastes like snow cream. It is a nice treat,
