For the low-carb, low-fat pre-op dieters!!!
bayba792 replied to ccweeks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is Nov 20th also, and I started my pre-op today. I'm allowed to drink 2 - 3 protein shakes a day and have 4-6 ounces of lean meat for dinner with a green veggie. -
Consultation date!!!!!
bayba792 replied to wickedredhead09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called my insurance company to see what was required by them for bariatric surgery and they told me a psch eval and a consult with nutritionist. So you might want to call them and ask. -

Does any have Dr. Krahn?
bayba792 replied to bayba792's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, I saw Dr Krahn today and I have to see my PCP on Friday Sept 4 and he has to give me a medical clearance and order my upper GI. I already scheduled my pshy eval and its not until sept 21. But that is all I need so they said that I looking at surgery in October / November. Can't wait!!! So Julia how did you like going to Dr Krahn? He seemed nice at the visit. -
Okay I was approved for the surgery in April 2009 but my PCP required me to attend 2 months of diet and I lost 20 lbs. But I had to go to a seminar 1st and this thursday I'm going to my consult, I talked to the office staff and they said that I just have to do my pshy eval, and nutrionist, and maybe a upper GI if the dr recommends it. But I was wondering if anyone has went to Dr. Krahn in San Bernardino CA because that is who will be doing my surgery. How long did the process take? I already have the authorization for the surgery it's just how long is he going to take?

bayba792 replied to bayba792's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah I know he has done alot of gastric bypass, But how long was his whole process? I'm tired of waiting. -
So how have you been? I'm still waiting to have my surgery. My insurance approved it in april but LLUMC had me do a 2 month program where I lost 20lbs and I went to the wl seminar which was required, and I have my consultation on aug 27, then do my psyh eval and nutriontist, and I think the surgeon required a upper GI. But hopefully soon. You look really good. How's the family?

Well I'm in the same situation I have a 4 yr old and a 1yr old and I'm a stay at home mom, And I was informed that I have to pay $4,000 which of course we don't have. But I do have several low interest cc without balances that I told my husband if I have to put it on a card then I will. We don't believe in having cc debt but I feel that I do alot for my family and I deserve to give myself a chance to live a healthy life. So my husband owns a fairly new motorcycle that he bought cash 2 yrs ago so he decided to sell it for $4,000 to pay for my surgery. We live on a very small budget and this is the only solution.

I'm currently on Phentermine for 1 month but I haven't had surgery yet. I was required 4 visits with health promotion center before getting my refferal for the surgeon and the doctor put me on phentermine for a month so I could lose as much weight as possible. I didn't think about it at the time but by the end of this month I'll go to the surgeon and I was wondering how long would I have to be off it before surgery?? I don't want to delay the process. Thanks :ihih:

WOW 48lbs that's really good. I need to lose another 4 pounds. they wanted me to lose a total of 15 pounds. I haven't seen the surgeon yet but with the medical center I belong with require me to have 2 visits with nutritionist and 2 visits with the Dr. so I only have one more visit with Doc. and then I get my refferal to the surgeon. :smile2:

Thanks, I have been on it for 1 week and lost 6 pounds. I'm eating about 800 calories and don't feel at all hungry.

Actually the nutritionist I saw for my pre op diet gave me a paper that said Goals prior to gastric surgery and on the paper one of the behavioral goals was "learn to eat chewing very well making every bite of food into a liquid before swallowing." And when I read that I thought that it would be very difficult to do and pretty gross.

Whats the best price for self pay in California?
bayba792 replied to sandy00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I was quoted a price at weightloss surgery centers of 16,000. But that was for the surgery and all the fills until you reach your goal weight. -
need to shrink liver.....help
bayba792 replied to angelicforever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With my kids I don't buy any junk food I go by the rules of julian if it don't come from a plant or have a momma then don't buy it. We eat pretty healthy but my problem is portion control. We don't eat any processed foods and for my kids I watch out for high frutose corn syrup so I found that if I don't have chips, cookies, ice cream, etc in the house my kids make smarter choices like fruit, raw veggies for snack and such. When they want a ice cream I just take them to go get a scoop at rite aid. And we only go out to eat about twice a month. But my kids don't have a weight problem and ever since we started eating this way my husband lost over 50 #'s. -

I know that with the band 3oz of meat and 2 servings of veggies is probably a lot of food but for me I'm starving. -
need to shrink liver.....help
bayba792 replied to angelicforever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I just start my modified liquid diet last thursday so today will be a week. They told me I had to lose at least 15#'s by June 4 to shrink my liver but they said this is the only diet I will be on till my surgery. I drink 4 shakes a day and 1 very tiny meal which consist of 3 oz of meat and 2 servings of veggies. Oh I can also have 2 fruit servings during the day. It is very hard especially when I'm making my kids grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. But I am right there with you. -
Are they for us or not! (I have BCBS of North Carolina)
bayba792 replied to Cloteal's topic in Insurance & Financing
I went to a consultation at a surgeon's office and they told me that because I had a HMO that they would not even cover the lap band. So I was upset but I decided to call my insurance co. and have them look up my policy and they told me that they will cover it as long as my PCP says it's a medical necessity. They don't require any classes or weight loss beforehand. So my PCP gave me a referral and it was approved in 2 days. So if I where you I would call my insurance before talking to anyone else and ask if it is covered and what is recommended that you do before you can have the surgery. -
Thanks, I'm just worried to go in and they say that they can't do the surgery because I didn't lose enough.

I saw the nutrionist today (I haven't been banded yet) but she told me that I need to start with my pre-surgery diet now because I need to lose 10 percent of my body weight before surgery. Well I understand that and their giving me a month to do it. But she put me on optifast plan where I drink 4 shakes a day and one small meal for a total of 1000 - 1100 calories a day is it possible to lose 15 pounds in a month eating that many calories? ( I already lost 8 pounds and that took 3 months).
