  1. Oh and I am not getting excited here but your tone stinks. It's very condensending.

Only if you are looking to be offended.

I meant no harm and I don't have to justify my opinion with any links to anything. Common sense is common sense. A person at 3% bodyfat is going to look MUCH more muscular than the same person at 9% bodyfat. That's not rocket science....it's 10th grade anatomy and physiology.

    Again...good luck.

  2. How do you know that female competitors aren't as muscular as they look? That's kind of a blanket statment.

Also kudos for giving it a go? LOL...um ok, thanks I guess.

I wasn't meaning to insult them or anyone but facts are facts. It's a well known fact that you will look MUCH more muscular than you are...when you are very lean.

If you take the same person and compare their physique at 9% bodyfat and then compare them at 3% bodyfat then they will "look" dramatically different for the same musculature.

I didn't mean to imply that the female competitors were not muscular because clearly they are however many are under the impression that they look like that all the time and have the "he-man" look that you referred to. They do not. If you see a female or male bodybuilder out of season....they look much more "normal" than when they are cut to the bone.

Nothing more...nothing less. No reason to get excited.

  3. I hope you don't misinterpret my comments as negative..they weren't meant that way.

Most of the female fitness competitors look more muscular than they really are. They lean out to the point that being ripped they look musclebound but then when they get the bodyfat to a more normal range they look "normal" again.

Kudos to you for giving it a go. Good luck.

  4. It is very, very difficult to build muscle in a caloric deprivation state....regardless of what the supplement companies claim. If you are well muscled and need to peel off the layers of fat you will be ok...but trying to lose fat and build muscle are contradictory actions in your body.

You may already know that most bodybuilders have a bulking stage followed by a cutting stage. They eat like no other while bulking and training heavy to build muscle and then go into a calorie deficit and up the cardio and try to maintain the hard earned muscle.

    It's difficult. Good luck.

  5. Wow, I haven't checked in here in a while!

here's a clothes NSV. Since I'm freezing cold all the time, I'm now keen on long-sleeved shirts. Go figure. So I go to Kohl's and try on the XL (in the regular Women's sections, not the Plus sized 1X, 2X or 3X I used to buy) and the XL is too big! WOW! So I now have 5 long-sleeved cotton stretch t-shirts in pretty fall colors in Large. Plain ole Large.

    ^5

I started in a XXXL dress shirt for work....and that was sometimes snug depending on the cut and I must confess I owned a few XXXXLs for those tough days. :peep:

I ordered two XL dress shirts last week to be "prepared" for when I would be able to wear them.

They came in....they fit. I dig it.

    :heh:

  6. I am new to this website. A friend of mine who had the lap band done a year and a half ago told me to check this website out. I have not had the lapband surgery yet, but I am hoping to have the surgery after the first of the year when insurance will cover it. Is there anything that I should know before having the surgery?

    Yes............

  7. :nervous

Ya know I keep whining about my weight loss slowing down....but when I review my spreadsheet I am averaging roughly 3-4 lbs a week....which is great!

I've hit a few plateaus lately but they are short lived....I just need to keep my focus on a longer period of time rather than day to day.

I keep saying I will only weigh once a week but every morning I cannot help myself.

Ah well...230 by X-Mas was my original goal in the Twoterville thread...I still have a shot at it but I have to make sure I whip myself good at the gym.

Anyways...thanks all. :clap2: for all of us.

  8. I agree....Outstanding job on 100lbs...that has to feel pretty damn good.

I am sneaking up on the 70 mark and that makes me pretty proud of myself...especially when I grab something that weighs 50 or 60 lbs.....and then realize I've lost at least that much off my body.

Cool stuff.....X-Mas here I come. 230 or bust.

  9. is it possible to exercise too much????

i am so desperately sad and bummed and sad and sad and sad and sad. i will never lose weight no matter what i do.

went to see dr and he said i have NO symptoms of any health issue preventing me from weight loss. he will run total blood panel anyway but says i should see a dietician....

How about instead of telling us how many calories you eat...tell us exactly what you eat and at what time. Exactly what you do for exercise and at what intensity?

Maybe that would help us..help you. Jerry Maguire flashback. :nervous

  10. Determined cookie.

Unfortunately I think the next challenge might prove a little tougher as my weight loss seems to have slowed. I might have my expectations set too high but its too darn cold to ride my bike regularly so we joined the Y instead but I can't seem to get into that as much as the riding.

  11. I am in.

    BPM 288 230

    Bring it. :heh:

Checking in at 268 this morning. My rate of weight loss slowed a bit for a while and I hit a nasty plateau for about 2 weeks but I seemed to have broken through it and am losing again.

If I am going to make 230...I need to step it up.

  12. Telly -

I've been non-sexually crushing you for months! I saw your first "shy girl" pics and then watched as you blossomed into the powerhouse diva that you have become! YOU GO GIRL! I only hope my post-band success is as amped as yours. :)

I am on a 2- month holding pattern because of low Iron. I get my blood retested on Monday (30 Oct.) and they BETTER be ready to schedule my surgery!

I've printed the initial post and am ready to work my ass off!

Thanks, girl and keep it up. You are beautiful inside and out.

    Nathalie

You don't need to wait for your surgery to start working your ass off...just a thought...and I agree that Telly is inspiring.

  13. "Does that mean when a 13 year old kills someone, they should not be tried for it, but their parents should be. Even if their parents are very good parents, go to church, have high morals and always talked to their kids? Bull. Even at age 13, the kid knows the difference by then between right and wrong."

When you see the 13 year old on tv who had killed someone it`s because its so unusual. That`s why it`s on the news. As you will see that when these young kids do kill they usually dont come from stable two parent homes. Maybe some do come from good homes but as I said there are exceptions to everything.

As I`ve also said a few times on this board. Do you think it is a coincidence that the overwhelming majority of people in prison come from broken homes ?

Carroll O`Conner said himself after his adult child died of a overdose. "Get between your kids and drugs anyway you can" This means more then just teaching them. It means being involved in thier lives in almost every detail, everyday. It`s a hard job but it must be done.

Kids usually know the meaning between right and wrong but that doesnt mean that they do it. This is why kids need guidance in life and it`s the parents job to do it in every detail.

AGAIN, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE EXCEPTIONS

Your broken home argument is too simple minded to even bother....the majority of people in prison in America also come from one race too....and we aren't going there.

Poverty begets crime.....young, old, black, white, broken home or not....poor people statistically will commit crimes in a higher percentage....regardless of whether they are from a broken home or not.

I think you are insulting to anyone that was raised in a broken home with your comments and your crappy attitude.

  14. You are a product of your enviroment and a reflection of your parents.

No..actually some children take on characteristics of their parents and some children are repulsed by them and vow to live differently.

When I talk about children I`m talking about around high school age and younger. At these ages kids make stupid decisions and it`s up to the parents to prepare them so they dont make these dumb life choices.

Could you please tell us about your education or experience on this subjec that apparently makes you a professional and somehow allows you to cast aspersions on the entire human race and paint everyone with the same brush? We're dying to know.

Teaching your kids about this starts at a young age. Don`t expect the schools to do this for you. Don`t expect because you have other good kids that your other kids will follow.

You are proving yourself wrong...because if by your theory one kid turns out good then the others that are raised by the same parents have to turn out good too.

Stats show that when a teenager dies it generally is a preventable death.

Stats will also show that MANY deaths are preventable....and given the tendency of teen drivers to crash their cars...this isn't a surprise but it doesn't in any way to relate to their parenting.

This shows teenagers are making poor decisions which are preventable. It is also a result of poor parenting. These poor choices generally come from one place, the home or the lack there of.

No offense...but unless you can cite some factual statistics....you have already been show to be incorrect....in fact you proved YOURSELF wrong in this very post.

It`s also for time for the parents to stop blaming everyone else if thier kid is a loser. You are responsible for your minor children. If you have a adult who is a drugg addicted fool I wont always blame the parents. If the seed for that was planted growing up then I do blame the mother and father.

Do you think it`s a coincidence that the overwhelming majority of people in prison come from broken or single parent homes ? This is where the seed is planted. Of course there are going to be exceptions but generally the parents are the ones to blame

I do agree that parents shouldn't be looking to place blame on anyone but themselves or their child. If you're going to try and argue like an expert then you need better junk than this.
