  13. HUGS! Thanks y'all for all your support! I agree with everyone...it's what is best for you! And I plan on putting everything I've got into this. Full concentration to exercise, eating right and being aware of the mental struggle it will be. I think I’m going to keep things to myself for now…this is something I’m doing for myself. And I realize that not everyone is going to be as happy as you are about choices we make. Even if they are for better health, life and esteem!! Thanks again y'all!
  14. Has anyone had a Gastric Bypass or Lap-Band patient discourage you to have the surgery? I spoke to a lady this weekend that had Gastric Bypass and she totally discouraged me….She said to beware of the following: 1. Addiction Transference: She said that food is your addiction and that we can transfer that addiction to something else. Her examples where Sex and Drugs. And she admitted to having a drug addiction now. She blames it all on not being “ready” for the surgery…or being “supported” by her doctor. 2. Being a Self Pay: She said the doctors will take your money and run. As she put it. 3. Having a Psych evaluation: She said that even if you feel ready and you are a self pay you should have a Psych evaluation. (Which I agree) 4. Weight Loss: she said that she only lost 35 lbs since 2006 and it is a waste of money 5. Positive vs. Negative: She said that because I want the surgery so “badly” that I only want to look at the positives and I need to focus more on the negatives. I have done research for about a year on this now…and Felt and still feel really positive about the surgery. And have researched all of the above and feel comfortable with the path I have chosen….But it does discourage me to see someone so unhappy. How do you all feel? Hugs, Sylvia
  15. Hi to all! Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Sylvia, living in Valdosta Georgia. I'm an over weight lifer. And have done the yo-yo diets....spent lots of money on weight loss programs like Metibolic Research and just cant seem to get to a healthly weight. I of course have heard about Gastric Bypass and always thought it was an extream way to alter yourself (in my opinion an unhealthy way) to become "healthy". Needless to say that has always discouraged me. UNTIL!! I heard of Lap-Band. It has been something I have followed for a couple of years, done some research and went to my first siminar this Wednesday. I'm what you all call here a "self pay" my insurance dosen't cover my surgery. And started to save up for it when I first heard of Lap - Band. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. I have my first appointment for pre-op on Monday... So....I hope this finds everyone in good spirits!! And here's wishing everyone luck and good health! Hugs, Sylvia
