Not Sure What Is Going On???
Congratulations, you have just had your first stuck episode. You are not supposed to drink when you are stuck as there is nowhere for the liquid to go other than come back up. It probably happened because you were out and relaxed and not paying as much attention to the way you eat as you normally would. It is a reminder of why you have to take small bites and chew them well etc. It is highly unlikely that this has caused your band to slip. You are probably just swollen and irritated from being stuck. Stick to soft foods for a while longer and maybe suck crushed ice to help soothe and reduce any swelling. Start adding back normal foods slowly and when you do take extra care of how you eat them.

Port Area Warmer Than Rest Of My Stomach
If you can't go to mexico then go and see your PCP. If the port is infected it can be serious. The infection can run all the way along the tubing to the band and cause all sorts of issues. Your PCP should be able to do bloods to see if you do have an infection and if that comes back positive then you will need to decide if you should go back to Mexico or find a local bariatric surgeon.

Rollercoaster=Flipped Band
Generally a flipped port needs minor surgery to stitch it back into place.

Social Situation Help!!!
Try to preplan what you are going to eat if you know where you are going. Avoid the bread basket. Don't wash your food down with alcohol. Eat slowly and focus on enjoying the company.

Day 10 Chest Pain? Any Advice?
Have you spoken to your Dr about it? Chest pain is not something you should mess around with as it could be something serious. You should speak to your Dr to rule out heart problems, PE, pneumonia etc and then see what meds he advises.

What Would You Do If Something Happened To Your Band?
I think I would probably revise to a sleeve.I would not want to be without something to help me keep the weight off. I know many people say that they have changed their eating habits enough to be able to keep the weight off and if they can manage this then I really admire them. For me getting a band had nothing to do with not knowing what I should/shouldn't be eating. I have always eaten healthy food and I eat the same food now. I have never really eaten eat deep fried food, very rarely go to a fast food joint, do not load my food with butter or cream or anything like that. For me the band has always been about controlling hunger. Without the band I know that my hunger would come back and that I would be unable to only eat the small quantities that i need to eat to be able to maintain my loss. I know this because I am in the process of having my band slowly refilled after a problem about 2 months ago. I have no restriction and it is awful. I am constantly hungry. I eat what I should do and it "doesn't even touch sides"! I can finish a meal and still be hungry. I am hungry in-between as well and I hate it, I have not felt like this for almost 3 years. I often wonder how many of those that have their bands removed and do not opt for a revision actually do manage to keep their weight off. I am sure there are very few if any, it is not something that they are likely to come back to LBT and report though is it!

Anemia
I would take the pills as it is better than having to get Iron shots. I went through all that years ago due to very low iron levels and it wasn't much fun. Heck I even ended up with a tattoo on my butt because of it. It looked like I had a huge bruise which a month later was still there, when I showed it to the Dr she explained that the person that gave me the injection obviously hadn't done it deep enough and it had spread under the skin. It took years to eventually disappear. Good job I wasn't an underwear model or a porn star - I would have had to have sued for compensation!

If you really can't manage the shakes then just drink milk. It doesn't have as much protein in but it is a healthy nutritious food.

Am The Only One Freaked Out By Shirleys Post??
Thanks Denise for posting this. It would be interesting if I had enough of a medical background to understand what they were talking about! I did know that it was possible for the band to slip upwards, in fact initially I thought this was the only type of slip. It took a while on LBT reading lots of threads to realise that the more common kind of slip was "downwards". I am sure that Shirley's band probably did slip upwards but that still makes it hard to understand the chain of events that occurred afterwards.Would an upwards slipping band really cause seizures or did something else happen? What would cause the band to slip so easily - Shirley stated it took one bite? We know that Shirley's band was stitched in place as she mentioned this numerous times. What is the significance of the "2 bands"? Unfortunately we will probably never know and that is what makes these type of events so scary. I understand patient confidentiality but sometimes you would think that a greater good would be served by giving more info to others who are in a similar situation that could benefit from the extra knowledge.

Am The Only One Freaked Out By Shirleys Post??
I believe that an infection in or around the port can travel along the tubing to the band and vice versa. Often an infection at the port site can be a sign of erosion. Herewith some info found on another site. How to you tell if you have lap band erosion? Probably the biggest indicator of erosion is weight regain because the band is no longer in place to restrict the food intake. Another one of the signs is redness, swelling and pain around the access port. This is caused by bacteria from the stomach getting into the capsule that forms around the band. The infection simply travels to the outside port along the tubing. Another sign that erosion is happening is that the erosion causes the band to be less restrictive than before so you can eat more than before. A lot more than before. http://all-about-lapband.com/problems/erosion.html

Anyone Banded At Less Than 200Lbs?
I am 153cm and was banded at a weight of 70kg( 154lb). I was 74kg before starting the preop diet etc It took me just over 6 months to get to 52kg and I then over the next 2 years lost another 2kg. I have gained slightly and am currently back around 52kg.

Gas In Back Of Shoulder
I can't tell how long it takes for food to pass through my band as when the food is properley chewed etc for me there is no sensation. I can only feel it if I am stuck or if a bite may be too big. What you are aiming for is for the food to pass through slowly as that is what helps the feeling of satiety. However I would say that if you are now having shoulder pain that you didn't have before then the band may indeed be too tight. Part of it is probably rubbing on the diaphragm or the vagus nerve and causing referred pain in the shoulder. It is not gas. I would go back to the Dr and have a tiny bit of fill taken out to hopefully relieve it.
