  1. I don't know of 1 either.I'm afraid this is 1 of those instances where the marketing doesn't match up to reality. In the book I was given I was told to eat 3 times a day , no Snacks and if I wasn't hungry then eating only twice would be fine. Yeah right, I should be so lucky. I definitely need 3 meals and 2 , sometimes 3 snacks a day. I think the problem is that the literature is written by medical people that don't have eating issues or bands. They paint an ideal picture but the reality is far different. Stop chasing some ideal green zone utopia that doesn't exist (except for maybe a very tiny percentage) and work with what you have.
  2. That is ridiculous advice. This person is probably heading for disaster.
  3. I am the Ice Queen
  4. I get to eat as normal prior to the fill
  5. I also think there is a range of what those feelings can be. For instance I often read that people no longer eat- bread, meat, chicken, veg etc etc as they can't. Well is it because they can't or because it is uncomfortable to do so? If it is the latter then is that good or bad? I find the uncomfortable feeling prevents me eating more than anything else does. Now I know that eating should never be uncomfortable but that does seem to be 1 of the side effects of the band. If you avoid this feeling altogether and only eat slider foods then it is easy to overeat and not feel that full feeling. An example. If I eat eggs for Breakfast or yogurt and berries I can eat them easily and 2 hours later be hungry and looking for food again. Over Easter I decided to have the ocasional hot X bun. i only ate 1/2 a bun and had it toasted. Eating the bun was mildly uncomfortable but I carried on because I really wanted it ( yes destructive eating behavious I know). It didn't get stuck but it did feel uncomfortable enough to keep me full right up until lunchtime! I don't profess to know the answer even though I have been banded for almost 4 years.I still have lots of questions as to how and why and what.I think we just all have to work with our band and try to do our best and make the best food decisions that we can.
  6. Good luck . I would also want another surgery as I agree that keeping the weight off without assistance is too hard. Have a lovely holiday and keep us updated with how you go. You're part of our family.
  7. Interesting that you don't understand the point of the post, I thought I explained myself quite clearly! It shows that people with sleeves have exactly the same issues that people with bands do.Some are ecstatically happy with their choice, some wish they had never done it. Some had serious complication etc. You have posted the summary info from the survey but it is far more interesting to read the entire thread. If you do this then you will discover that not everyone thinks the sleeve is the perfect solution as a number of unhappy bandsters would have us believe. I do find it rather ironic that it is OK for you to post in this forum telling us how bad and how dangerous the band is and how soon it won't be used as a form of WLS anymore yet when someone posts a direct link to a sleeve forum that gives a range of opinions on the sleeve you can't see the point. The whole point is balance and giving people as much information as possible so that they can make informed decisions.
  8. For those that regret their decision to be banded or are contemplating WLS and think that the sleeve is 'perfect" this is a brilliant thread that I think is well worth reading. It shows that people with sleeves have exactly the same issues that people with bands do.Some are ecstatically happy with their choice, some wish they had never done it. Some had serious complication etc. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/74528-would-you-have-weight-loss-surgery-again/page__st__120 So remember there is no perfect WLS. Each individual has to decide , in conjunction with their Dr, what they feel is right for them. It is very important to be aware of possible risks and complications. Whatever surgery you decide on , make sure you do it with your EYES WIDE OPEN.
  9. I think a lot of the problem is due to the changing views on how the band works. When I was banded , almost 4 years ago, I was told and all the available information stated that the band was designed to allow the food to pass from the top part to the lower part of the stomach very slowly. That is should take at least 20 minutes but could take longer. In Australia we were never told to measure in cups but rather use a small plate as our guideline. We were told to eat slowly but never told that we had to wait a minute or more between bites. Somehow over the last 4 years the thinking on how the band works has changed.I'm still not sure if the new thinking applies to all bands or if it is only the more recent surgeries that have had a different placement that it applies to. I know some people with 4cc bands that will swear blind that food does not pass through their pouch quickly. I think that the misinformation has caused a lot of confusion and it may also have contributed to a lot of the problems. Achalasia is a possible complication.About a year ago my Dr told me that it was something that they were seeing an increase of but they weren't sure why.
  10. Well done. Is this the same ride that you did last year?
  11. Sounds like mucous, probably similar to the thick stuff that comes out of your nose. Sooner you get into see the Dr and get the tests done the better.
  12. Hormones, low iron. something else low?
  13. My parents fed me very healthily. We did not have a house full of junk food. We did not eat lots of Snacks. My Mum always cooked from scratch. We did not have soda except as an occasional treat. Probably the only thing "wrong" was that Dad made me finish everything on my plate , even things I hated such as peas. The truth of the matter is that it does not take a lot to become overweight, then obese etc. We may have a vision of obese people stuffing themselves with candy and fries and for some that is probably true. But there are many people out there that got fat eating just a little bit more healthy food ( and some treats)than they needed and not moving enough.Plus I was always a bookworm, hated exercise since I was a child, and that also contributed to the problem.
  14. the more aggressive the fills the more potential you have to encounter problems. If you go slowly you get used to the new eating guidelines going from " 0 - 100" rapidly means you are less likely to have adapted and more likely to have a bad stuck episode.
  15. It could be the start of alopecia. It could be due to a fungal infection or psoriasis. It could even be from chemicals used processing your hair. As msmaui say's, it is best to have it checked out by the dermatologist.
  16. Depends on if you want to lose weight. If you want to lose then avoid the chips. If you don't then feel free to eat as many as you want. Remember there is no LapBand God that say's you can eat this or can't eat that. It is up to you to make smart choices.
  17. OMG I'm totally gobsmacked. That is unbelievable!
  18. I identify with this 100%. I had people telling me how thin I was and I couldn't see it. Yes I had(still have) skinny legs but surely they could see how much fat I still had around my stomach, back etc. I have regained a couple of kilos and still get called skinny , which I am not and no I'm not in denial but compared to most people my age I suppose I am. But there is 1 advantage to the couple of extra kilos - my face looks better. At my lowest weight I had big bags under my eyes and I was starting to consider fillers etc but now I don't think they are needed(at least not for a couple more years). I would love to lose again but I probably don't need to which could be why i am finding it so hard. I think the media has so much to answer for.We no longer know what a normal healthy body should look like as we only get images of models that are super slim with no saggy bits and superflat stomachs no matter how old they are.
  19. The ones I used had to be mixed with water. Most have some kind of "milk" powder in them already and yes it is because of calories. It might be hard but the preop is only a short period of time, best to suck it up and just get on with it, it will be over before you know it.
  20. She should be made to pay the money back.
  21. To me chicken and fish, that I have not cooked myself, tend to be a bit risky. They can be dry and get stuck easily so although preband they may have been the ideal diet food ,post band they are not. I would choose a Pasta dish - a starter sized serve of canneloni or lasagne or something with a tomato based sauce. They are less likely to get stuck which to me is more important when eating out than choosing the lowest calorie food. Dieting successfully is about what you do 90% of the time. So going out and occasionally having something that may be less than ideal does not hurt.
  22. Amazing. I love what you have gained too - the most incredible smile:)
