How To Tighten A Lap Band Without A Port Head?
elcee replied to model's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah right! This is why she won't tell us who her Dr is. She is making this stuff up. -
I still find the whole thing extremely confusing and most of the info even from experts such as Dr O Brien seems to be contradictory. The placement he shows and talks about is very high and seems to differ with what has been on the Allergan site for the past couple of years. So is this the way bands are being placed or just some bands or is it new. If it is only a recent thing then is this information still correct for those that may have a different/lower placement. I am still struggling to get my head around food passing through in a minute and have been for a while although that explains how when you get stuck you feel it instantly. Previously I couldn't understand how if the food was designed to sit in the pouch why you could feel it instantly when something got stuck. But one of the main things that doesn't make sense is how people stretch their pouches. How many times do we hear that someone has stretched their pouch by overeating and not sticking to the recommended amount of food? If there is no pouch and if the food goes through instantly then surely there is not going to be any risk of stretching? So someone PLEASE explain that for me.

Wow that is a terrible story. Was the vomiting blood the first symptom that you had? If it was then that is incredibly scary. Hope that everything now goes well.

A lot of you are laughing but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of us have consumed this stuff already. Isn't this the stuff that they put in some of the diet pills that are designed to make you feel full quicker. It could even be in some of those diet shakes...........

What Do You Do When Your Band Is Full?
elcee replied to Arizonakimc's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Generally most bands never need to be filled to capacity. There are a few exceptions ( normally Realize bands that can be overfilled) but for the majority of us this is not an issue. You should be able to achieve the green zone before your band is full. In fact the closer it gets to full the more likely your band is to be too tight and having a too tight band is not fun. I assume that you must have been banded in Mexico as the 4cc is an old band that is not in general use any more, is that correct? Most people that have the 4cc band actually seem to reach their green zone quicker and easier than a lot of us with the newer larger capacity bands. -
It's taken me a while but I think I may finally have got with the program. Sorry I missed it initially, it looks like you all had lots of fun. I think the official verdict could be that you are all mad so maybe I'm lucky I wasn't here earlier or I could have been classified mad too! I love LBT. Somedays it covers the whole entertainment spectrum - Drama, tragedy, comedy, slapstick..............

That sounds really serious. I hope that you make a full recovery really quickly. Good news that your Dr was on the ball and did the right thing to prevent future problems.

Thought I would post this article as I found it rather interesting. Potatoes are always getting a really bad rap, most of which is undeserved. Potatoes themselves are not fattening, it is what is added to them that causes the problems. Most people seem to think that they are another white food that should be avoided, that they are nutrient poor etc. This is just one of many articles that would seem to suggest otherwise. In fact it now seems as though the humble spud could be a new superfood. http://www.dailymail...superfoods.html 'The ultimate wonder food': Potatoes have more nutrients, Vitamins and minerals than traditional 'superfoods' By ROB COOPER PUBLISHED: 08:49 GMT, 10 May 2012 | UPDATED: 10:54 GMT, 10 May 2012 Comments (66) Share Ignored by dieters because they are 'fattening', few would class the potato as a 'wonder food' packed full of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. But the spud is actually better for the body than traditional superfoods - such as bananas, broccoli, beetroot, nuts and avocado, a study has found. The researchers said people are wrong to shun it in favour of modern and more expensive alternatives. Superfood: The potato has been disregarded as 'fattening' and shunned in favour of alternatives such as bananas, broccoli and avocado A jacket potato has five-and-a-half times as much fibre as the average banana - and is packed with more Vitamin C than is found in three avocados, the Daily Express reported. Last year a separate study discovered that eating spuds twice a day can lower blood pressure - and contrary to popular perceptions it won't make you put on weight. Food for thought: Potatoes have five and a half times as much fibre as a banana The new research also found that the potato contains more of the mineral selenium than the average child gets from all the seeds and nuts they consume. The study was completed by the independent nutritionist Sigrid Gibson on behalf of the Potato Council. They have produced a mobile phone app which compares how good potatoes are with the traditional superfoods. Sian Porter, the Potato Council's consultant dietitian, told the Daily Express: 'It is important to have a wide variety of foods in your diet but sometimes our heads are turned by new things and we underestimate old favourites like potatoes and how they compare to other, often more expensive "superfoods".' The researchers analysed the food intake of 876 children and 948 adults for the study. Sigrid Gibson added: ' We think of bananas as being a good source of potassium, and they are, but potatoes make a more significant contribution to the diet.' I've flown plenty of times and never had an issue. According to my Dr you are more likely to have problems flying if you have an unfilled band - the air in it can expand whereas apparently the saline doesn't.

Thinking Of Changing My Life For The Better
elcee replied to sshaeshae19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't see how or why a lapband would impact on IVF. -
For me it generally means I need to slow down.
-
Yes it is definitely a problem if you can't drink.

Glad to hear that you are recommitting. Hopefully this time you achieve the success you are looking for.

I don't believe it is ever too late to do something positive about your health. There are a number of older people on this forum that have had the surgery. I'm not in the US so I can't give you any advice about insurance. But the best thing for you to do is to start researching WLS. Go and see a Dr. Ask questions. Ask lots of questions here too. It is important that you know in advance what surgery involves, what you will need to do to make your band (or other wls successful) etc. All the best.

Yes a lot of people seem to think that which is why I believe it is time the myth was debunked. Potatoes also have one of the highest satiety levels of any food. I've never eaten a raw potato (I think they are pretty undigestible) but I did have a boyfriend in high school that loved raw chips!

Has your Dr checked your band to make sure it's not leaking? Has your Dr checked to ensure that the band is in the correct place and that it has not slipped and there is no erosion. Also some types of band can actually have more fill in them than the supposed capacity. I have heard of a number of cases of this with the Realize band. The other questions to ask are:- What are you wanting from the band. Are your expectations in line with reality. To explain. If you are expecting the band to make you feel full the way it did before you were banded well sorry that is not going to happen. Are you expecting the band to stop you eating certain foods? Again that is not going to happen. If anything if your band is too tight you are more likely to eat high calorie sliders that do not fill you up and cause you to gain weight. Maybe you should tell us a little bit more about how long you have been banded, what you are eating , how often etc. That might enable us to give you some helpful tips. In the meantime look up some of the brilliant magazine articles (on this site) written by Jean MacMillan. They are excellent and give a lot of advice and insight into what the band does and doesn't do.

The only time I wear killer heels is when I am somewhere I don't have to walk, like out for dinner, so then my legs would be under the table and no one would be able to see them!
-
Great well balanced answer by Jean as always. ( Jean glad you are now on the other side of your surgery and hope everything goes well) I think the point about listening to what your surgeon thinks is particularly pertinent. Must admit that I am a bit upset that I missed the trolls.

Looks like I'll have to stick to chewing on a piece of sugar cane!

Gas Pains......huh I Don't Think So!!!!
elcee replied to SabrinaDollar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ouch! -
I didn't realise that sugar had been invented by man! I thought it was something that grew naturally and that man only perfected the refining process and then decided it tastes so good he should add it to everything else!

How To Tighten A Lap Band Without A Port Head?
elcee replied to model's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't you think that if this was an option the hospital or her Dr would have done it already? What if her band is eroded and/or leaking elsewhere. What if she follows this advice and worsens or introduces a massive infection that then kills her? We need to be very careful about the advice we give to others. -
I always thought that 1200 was the minimum that you were supposed to eat but if that was your allocation and you wanted to lose weight then you needed to create a deficit by exercising. It does not make any sense to eat your exercise calories.

I don't think so. His brother was just on our Sunrise Tv show and they asked him if he had got a suit for the wedding and he answered "Not Yet"...................
