    Feeling Sick!

I also felt nauseous and I think it was from all the sweet stuff. I had some homemade veggie soup and after that i felt much better, that at least tasted like food.
  2. This depends on the Dr. I also thought that it was necessary but discovered that is not true. When I had my hysterectomy last year my Dr did not require that I get an unfill. The only issue that I has was that the hospitals idea of a light diet did not tie up with what I considered to be a suitable lapbanders light diet. they kept trying to feed me sandwiches so all I got to eat was the soft stuff like icecream, jelly ,custard and yogurt which was not very satisfying.
  3. It can so be careful with what and how you eat

    Piece Of Meat

That is just weird. What is the guy on?
  5. You shouldn't be washing food down with coffee. By doing that you are defeating the band and not allowing it to work properly. It is normal to feel the sensations in your chest as that is where your band sits. Try taking even smaller bites, chewing more and waiting between bites. Do not flush the food through. It may be that your band is a little too tight in which case you may need some fluid out or it may just be that you are not used to the different sensation of eating with a band. I think you should discuss this with your Dr.

    What Should I Do???

I don't have the answer but I am keen to see what others say. YOU KNOW I am thinking about you and hoping for a good solution. Hugs.
  7. Possibly the reason that 3 weeks sounds late for a first post op appointment is because of the different way that surgery is done in Aus. We are not done as day patients, most of us stay in overnight so we are checked the next day to ensure that everything is OK. As far as I am aware most people get a fill at 3 - 4 weeks although some Dr's stretch it to 6. Some people have a fill whilst they are in surgery although that can cause problems. In Australia most Dr's follow a protocol of small regular fills - they do not seem to use the aggressive fill schedule that many US Drs do. It is not necessary to be on solids prior to getting a fill, it can be done whilst on soft/mushies with no problem. Some people go for months without a fill as for some reason they don't seem to need one. So everyone is different as is every Dr.
  8. It depends on where and how bad the slip is etc. From your message it sounds as though the band has slipped quite badly. Normally the first course of action with a slip is to have a total unfill and see if the band goes back into place. Quite often, it does. If it doesn't then it needs to be fixed, removed or replaced. How urgent this is depends on a number of factors including your ability to eat and drink, whether you have reflux etc. I think the best thing for you to do is have the unfill and keep in close contact with your Dr.You will need to be assessed regularly to make sure that the slip is not causing additional problems.
  9. Normally at your first postop app they give you a fill. When is your appointment? Mine was approx 3 -4 weeks after my op.
  10. I was terrified. I only told my husband. Being nervous is perfectly normal. Good luck, hope it all goes well.

    Protein

    beans,chickpeas,lentils,soy
  12. The 4cc band is the older model. It was superseded a couple of years ago. It seems they often use them in Mexico - presumably as they are old stock they got them cheaper. As far as I know they work but there is generally a reason for something being discontinued and a newer model introduced.

    Eat More?!

Sounds interesting. Routine is something I'm not very good at either and I think that is where some of my problems arise.
  14. Maybe he is not injecting the fluid into the correct place. If that is the case I would be concerned as it would seem he doesn't know what he is doing.

    Alcohol

Wine is generally the best option. you can dilute it with soda water to make it lower calorie as well.
  16. I think you need to hang on before going through more surgery and getting your band removed. It is quite possible that your band is too tight. I think all the issues that you are having can be quite easily resolved.
  17. There is something that I would like to add and hopefully this is sensible and not just more trying to have the last word. SOMETIMES THE MARKETING AND THE REALITY ARE DIFFERENT When I was first banded I was told that the band would prevent me from eating too much. I was told that overeating would make me sick but it was also noted in several places that vomiting was not normal. What I discovered was that if I attempted to overeat I would be very uncomfortable. That sometimes it was not possible to tell what was enough and what was too much until it was too late. I also found that I quite often got a very full uncomfortable feeling in my throat that felt as though food was sitting there although apparently this is a referred sensation from pressure on the vagus nerve. I didn't like any of these sensations and for me they were not what I had been told that eating after being banded would be like but I was banded, it was working and if that was the reality then so be it. It would have just been nice if the Drs had given a more accurate picture. Also that was back in the old days when we were told that the food sits in your pouch and only moves through the stoma really slowly. The new line that is being spun is actually quite hard to swallow ( excuse the pun). The way it is stated it actually sounds like a cross between utopia and/or the band doing nothing. I am still not sure which it is. The bottom line is that you are not supposed to be so tight that you have a huge list of things that you cannot eat, but you should be able to get sufficient feedback from your band that you know that it is working. If you don't then the whole thing is rather pointless.
  18. I find it amazing that Alex asked people to stop behaving and commenting the way that they were yet it is still carrying on. Time for us all to start acting our age not our shoe size!
  19. Good luck, let us know if it helps.
  20. Being in a different time zone has it's advantages. On the1 hand I miss out on all the fun but on the other I don't get to jump in early and make a fool of myself!

    The Surgery

You might technically be naked but all except the parts that they are working on will be covered.

Are You Dressing Up For Halloween?

I wish that Aussies did celebrate Halloween as I love it. When I lived in South Africa it had just started to catch on there which was great. I am very much a traditionalist though - if I was to dress up for Halloween it would have to be as a witch, ghost, devil or similar - I don't get dressing up as Princesses, Super Heroes, bob the Builder etc. To me that is not Halloween.

    The Definition Of Restriction?

There is nothing wrong with getting hungry 3 - 4 hours after a meal. If you do then eat a healthy snack.
  24. Try sucking crushed ice. It is very soothing and if you are swollen and inflamed it will help to reduce that.
